Welcom everybody again. Max the Mug: How much old?..
Personally, I think it boils down to a matter of audience sophistication. It feels like they assume that we need to be hit with a sledgehammer to be able to grasp a concept, or embrace an idea that might be outside of our comfort zone.
This is really rather unfortunate for us, because it means that OWI probably feels it has to test the waters before turning out anything more unfamiliar than a very well-rehearsed genre. The names, the idea, and the blatant hit-over-the-head message might be things they feel are necessary evils in order to get the clear for marketing anything more risky than that. While I totally understand why Lorne Lanning would like to feel out the market before releasing anything Oddworld into Hollywood, I wish that we as a public audience would have come off a bit more favorably in his eyes. I know I can understand the disgust he has with the current government, but as I was discussing this with somebody the other day, we realized that, if this film is released in three years, the topic may not be as fresh as he had hoped it would be. Not only that, but you'd be alienating a good chunk of your potentially receptive audience. I highly agree with the idea that somebody mentioned about the seriousness of the idea clashing with the sarcastic names. It worked so well for Oddworld because their entire culture was like that. Not only that, but it was funny because the mudokons seemed like they were just THAT thick that they could receive blatant advertising like that and only absorb the positive slogan out of it. (Hmm...sounds familiar...a culture that needs to be hit over the head with a message to understand it...) So, yeah. My random collection of thoughts at 3 in the morning. |
I leave the forums for a few months, come back and find this :D
Thankyou Max, you have made my life seem worthwhile. |

Just thought I'd mention that Raymond Swanland has updated his page with talk of CS aswell.
Here is- http://www.raymondswanland.com/Pages/Title01.html Edit- Ooops, Sorry was just looking at Robert Browns site just before I posted that and I got the two mixed.:P |
This story has a touch of Abes Oddysee.

It's exactly the same idea as Oddworld. Total capitalism. No labor rights. Horrible working conditions. Money=power. All they did was take out the Inhabitants. BTW, I think not many CS viewers are going to find this forum.
well we will make it a bit more obvious when CS is going to be promoted, don't worry :)

To further add to Xavier's previous post, there already is, and definitely will be more CS related changes in the near-future. If you or other members have any ideas, may it be ways to promote the OWF, or how we can better modify the forums to accommodate CS please start a thread in Forum Suggestions & Help by all means  Alcar... |
I hope Citizen Seige isn't going to be your typical modern movie, which doesn't have a good story just good visuals. Because that means that we'll get loads of Newbs on the forum like we did when they released the Stranger (A First Person Shooter, which attracts people who don't like Strategy games. Thus leaving them without a functional brain, known as "txt tlkin ppl or u cud cal em newbs" (I strongly dislike most Stranger Fans who don't even know about Abe or Munch))

I see that Nolyblab is Babylon backwards. But what did Glukkon come from? |

Lorne describes himself as a story-teller so I guess we can expect some great story in CS and in all his future projects
I'm curious now as to what the movie will look like. It's a CGI fim right? I wonder what the style of the characters, surroundings and etc. will look like.
Damn, that’s something I forgot in my report, but I suppose this is pretty tentative stuff. My understanding is that it’ll be realistic, but the characters will be slightly stylised.
Like Team Fortress, only not so extreme?
A question for Max: Is Lorne going to be the actual Director of CS or just Creative Director?
Director.
Jeez, I wonder how he's going to direct a film being developed in Vancouver.
Go to Vancouver?
And drag everyone he needs from Emeryville to Vancouver? I doubt it.
Lorne and Sherry operate in Berkely, not Emeryville. And how many people are you thinking would be dragged up there? There aren’t many left, you know.

Wait... the film is being produced in Vancouver? I must have missed that. Cool beans.
I'm glad the movie will be dark, but I hope it has humor too, like the first 2 oddworld games did. That kind of humour. I like dark stuff, but I don't want to sit through a completely serious/depressing hour and a half.
Ugh, the "humor" was the worst part for me. I mean the stupid cheap stuff like Abe banging his head off things and silly noises being made. Then there was other humor like the bad ending and in the AO intro how all of the glukkons burst out into coughing from laughter. That was the good kind for me.
