Shut up, shut up! Dont even go that far. Try not to think like that.
Oh for ****s sake... Not meaning to be harsh, but get a life, Jesus.

Your technical CGI degree both astounds and amuses us.

Lightinfantry 12-30-2005 04:42 PM

It better have scrabs and paramites in it.

I do what I can. :)

Leto 12-30-2005 07:19 PM

I think that Peter Jackson should direct the new Oddworld movie.

Dave 12-30-2005 08:37 PM

OH! OH! I got it!
Remember the graphics in The Animatrix for Final Flight of the Osiris?
Stunning.
At least, that's how I remember it. Andy Jones directed that.
That might be mighty fine, I might say.

EDIT: Oops. Entirely changed my reply, making Esus' post fuzzy.
What I said, not realizing what Esus pointed out, was that the movie would be better left to Lorne, not Jackson.

Shrink 12-30-2005 08:41 PM

Yeah, I think Super Munch was being sarcastic. :p

FFotO was pretty good, technically, but a flat performance. The others (Particularly Second Renisance and Detective) had much better story telling and emotional pull...and more convincing characters.

Dave 12-30-2005 10:22 PM

Well, yeah.
But I was pointing out the graphics style as one that might do justice to an Oddworld film.

Yeah I guess yer right about that, cuz if there's going to be a movie then Lorne's the man! If somebody else would making the OW movie instead like Jackson for instance then it might not hvae or get that Oddworld feelings, which the games did... at least to me... I still belive that Lorne's going to make the movie and very good as well.

Xavier 12-31-2005 12:11 PM

and Raymond on the storyboards! he mastered that perfectly in OSW :p

crash-kid 01-01-2006 02:44 PM

HEY every one I,m new here I loved Oddworld since I was little when Abes Oddysee was out. Now I can finally chat about Oddworld with Oddworld fans.
(On Topic)
I hope they don't use actors I would like a CG film because then the film would have more freedom.

Dipstikk 01-01-2006 03:30 PM

No, I doubt that they would use live actors, and for exactly the reason you mentioned: you have a lot more freedom working with a CG character.

Welcome to the forums! :)

Dave 01-01-2006 05:59 PM

Welcome, crash kid!
Yeah, the only way I could see them using "live actors" would be to do it like Gollum was done in Lord of the Rings, with actual backgrounds behind the characters.
But it would still be awkward, and not likely to happen, because of the way many creatures are built.

Nate 01-01-2006 07:22 PM

It could very well happen, it depends on which studio they work with to make the game.

They'd never make the movie live action simply because Lorne and Sherry come from a CG background. In any case, they could never make human actors look like the characters we know and love.

Cullen Heath 01-01-2006 09:03 PM

The way that Gollum was made, with the man in the sensor suit, I think looked very cool and turned out pretty nice.

I don't know, Nate. I think it would be kind of a good idea.

The only characters that could possibly be done via motion capture would be the Mudokens. Scrabs, Paramites, Sligs, Slurgs, Slogs, and Glukkons would all have to be done digitally. Seems like it would be a waste of money.

Oddish 01-02-2006 07:35 AM

Of course there is going to be actors, voice actors :)

Xavier 01-02-2006 08:55 AM

I'm wondering if Lorne will have the time to do some voices in it :p
I wish we had more info on it

They could motion capture such characters in the way they did in Walking With Dinosaurs - I don't know if that was exported - using various objects to simulate the movements they expected each creature to have.

CarboN 01-02-2006 12:20 PM

Yesh, yesh!
Finally!

I hope there'll be Abe and as many original voice actors as possible.
Anyone have a hunch when it would approximately be released? How long does it usually take to make an animated movie?

*Beats Xav over the head with a lead pipe* Maybe if they wanted to LOSE money. Let's face it, Lorne's gotten a little better at voice work (compare AO to SW), but he's not movie quality, especially for a movie.

We have to get out of the "game quality is good for movie quality" mentality and realize that there are gonna have to be a large amount of changes if they want this ship to sail. I could name a few people who could do the voice of Abe... um, I just have to think of them first. But trust me: plug your nose, and get the tone right, and pretty much anyone can do Abe.

Sorry for seeming a bit harsh, and no, I would never actually hit Xav with a pipe (maybe a piece of PVC...:p), but you guys need to stop and realize that a lot of the stuff they did in the games isn't gonna cut it here. This is the big leagues, and a lot of sacrefices are going to have to be made if this is going to succeed.

I think it takes two to three years, factoring in a lot of things.

Xavier 01-02-2006 12:58 PM

I wasn't thinking of the main character, but perhaps a litle character on the side... a bit like a cameo you see :p

and stop hitting me :p

KintoKid 01-02-2006 04:12 PM

I heard it's going to be a live-action flick starring Russell Crowe as Abe and Jack Black as Mullock the Glukkon.

[Seriously, though, I am very excited about this].

Pehaps that's due to the fact that he was doing voice work for a game and not a movie? The atmosphere is a little more laid back, to say the least. You should also keep in mind the countless number of movies that have bad acting, so to imply that Oddworld's voice acting should strive for just the bare minimum is not saying much.

And one more thing, if somebody says "movie quality" one more time, I really will hit them with a lead pipe. It's just one individuals opinion, which has no relevance to anybody other then the person making the remark. Unless I have an idea of what your standards are, I don't know what you mean. That being said, of course there are numerous aspects in the games that can, and will most certainly be improved upon, so there's really no point in stating the obvious. Does anybody actually believe that they'd use their current technology without updating? Quit worrying.

Salamander 01-02-2006 06:46 PM

i hope oddworld movie gets finished, and is resonably popular, oddworld won't really be the same if they get really well known. Great find Xav.

used:) 01-02-2006 07:03 PM

I would be flaming right now, but I am far too happy to do that right now. Cheers to oddworld!

Now, who is directing it? I think Quentin Tarentino would do an excellent job, Kill Bill was absolutely stunning. The storyline, now that is goimng to be a mystery, maybe it will be what the fearietales will spwan from.

But honestly, now Kimon's theory can become a reality, now that we have something to mumch on. :hungry: for news.

Well, exquisite find Xav, kudos for your news bringing. :)

Nate 01-02-2006 07:06 PM

One would assume that Lorne would be the director, ably assisted by his production design & storyboarding teams.

(I'm going to assume your Tarantino suggestion was a poor attempt at humour)

mitsur 01-02-2006 07:30 PM

Niceness! Thanks for the find, Xavier!

Do you guys think it will all be computerized?

I'd actually rather it be on the Stranger, because I can connect to him better then Abe

Aww, I dont think they could pull it off. Nope, they just dont seem like the right people to do those voices.
Do any of you agree with me or am I alone on this one?

Leto 01-02-2006 10:43 PM

God you're stupid, Cullen.
