Pesonaly i like him, stranger was too light for me, this guy and his sheep look very dark, perfect.
It doesnt really look like the recent Oddworld too much either, looks more like the grim art of Warhammer 40k, which in my eyes is a very good thing. Good work Oddworld, and nice find LawnChairFire! |
Wow … I'm not convinced this is an April Fool's. Remember the April Fool's three years ago? Well, EGM turned out to be telling the truth. The story of this Fangus guy sounds great - shepherding, popberries, invaders. I love the darkness, too. Unlike Kimon, a significant part of me really will not mind if humour is scaled far back in this game. A much, much darker Oddworld sounds hot.
Again, the character design is a tad upsetting. Those goats look evil as hell, but they're so obviously just goats. However, I know it's just a piece of artwork, and I am going to reserve judgement 'til we have some good, solid information on this game. :) |
I can't wait. I never expected them to go away from their other games again but I am just dying to hear more about this.
|
This looks ****ing awesome.
|
I imagine if Fangus goes out of control in all the nations of Oddworld, he'll be taken down...
Hell, that would be interesting, you start saving things for a good portion of the game, but the rabies forces you more and more towards brutal solutions until the good guys gun you down at game's end... If that happens, I imagine we'll be seeing everybody again... |
It's not the lack of humor that bothers me so much as the lack of charm. I'm apprehensive, to say the least.
|
the only things that brother me are the guns...
and is he king of his country Fangustan or something? could be intresting, fighting for his property. |

It's on a link on the 4th page.
Don't you feel stupid? :p |
I think they'll give it some charm, oddworld did that to all the games.
Oddworld 5 is looking interesting as always, mabey this time it might be loacated in the mountains enviroments like SW with the river. Hence the goats. |
:
Edit:Yes, I do feel stupid...But, at the same time, I can't wait for this really dark Oddworld game to come out... |
Well, that scan definitely makes this more believable. But for some reason I just still don't trust Game Informer....I just don't think that they are a very reliable source. But I'll still be waiting to hear more about this. :)
|
you can't deny that picture came from OWI...
So I don't see how this could be fake |
there is something fishy i mean this guy looks to much like stranger, maybe stranger is Faugus that would explain why we never got his name or knew where he came from, but that raises some other questions like where is his legs and what is he doing with guns, off the top my head i would think that he had the operation and with the guns... well you know what they say fight fire with fire, Steef is furious over the killing of his race and strikes back badder then ever :P

Is Exoddus a Quintology game?
|
o, noes!
it seems I have arrived too late and the picture link no longer works. If anyone saved it to their hard drive, would you mind posting it? |
:
lol, about the same time as the post above me >_<. :
|
If someone tells me how to upload the scan I will...But I tried already, and it said the file was too big...
|
|
I've uploaded it here. It's a bit smaller, but not too much.

wow....... Fangus looks awesome.
he does look a bit Stranger-ish, though |
Finally, some proof! I've pretty much lost any doubt that this is real, just because of the quality and style of the image. And I really do hope this won't turn out to be a [particularly cruel] April Fool's joke.
Hah, Fangus is rocking the kilt. |
Yeh, that picture does look rather Oddworldish. He also looks rather Outlaw-ish.
And though the Goat-things look like Goats. They still look thooperly! |
We've gone a long way from heroes who die in one hit to hulking beastmen packing dual M16's! While this big brute of a Fangus seems to go against the usual Oddworld hero philosophy (even Stranger was scrawny for a Steef), I've got faith that the Inhabitants will make him likeable and his plight compelling.
Considering that he's gradually going insane from the rabies, perhaps Fangus starts out as a gentle giant, and becomes a brutal anti-hero at the climax of his disease? Shepherding isn't exactly a badass's occupation. My guess would be that he and his sheep begin as cuddly critters, and become bloodthirsty monsters due to the disease that afflicts them. Also, I don't think that the flock looks too much like Earth sheep to be from Oddworld. After all, didn't we all feel that way about the Clakkerz and Stunkz? Anyway, I'm as excited by this game as I have been of all the Oddworld titles (as I'm a fan of both sides of the video game spectrum, ICO and Resident Evil), and am equally happy if they go badass or stick with more unlikely heroes. Just as long as Abe and Munch return one day... Personally, I don't think that this is a joke by Game Informer (unless every story in that issue is fake), as Oddworld is a bit of a niche title to base a gag on. If they'd say Halo 3's coming out next year, you'd know it was fake, but I don't think you'll zing many people with a prank on this series' fans. Anyway, nothing left to do but wait for official confirmation! |
Im gonna take a guess at the story line...
Firstly, Stranger is reffered to as small for a steef. This Fangus guy towers over Stranger. Fangus has all the characteristics of a steef except for the legs. My guess is he is a steef, whom underwent the operation that Stranger desperately wanted, and afterwards he hid himself from everyone by taking up a isolated and underlying profession as the hearder. My guess is he is a much older and possibly variant of the steef species, he looks rather lionesque to me, possibly a feline version of the steef. And since it is meant to be the follow up game for Strangers Wrath, then im guessing his quest will either begin or end due to something that happened to Stranger. |
I think by follow-up game, they just mean the next game in the Oddworld series. Besides, I'd rather see Stranger have his own story and timeline and whatnot.
Another thing is, where the hell is Fangustan? It's definetly not on Mudos, so who knows? Maybe there aren't even Steef over there. And still, if there are, it's highly unlikely that Stranger will travel to Fangustan when he has people to protect and a life to live on Mudos. |
this picture is awsome! fangus reminds me of a gladiator by what he wears and looks a bit more bearish than stranger and is it me or are the tougher main characters of oddworld (stranger and fangus) look more mammalish than the other main characters (abe and munch) who are weaker?

what is it with the slashes lately?
Remember in Stranger, the outlaw in the opening cinematic had 5 tally marks on his gun, and so did Sekto (which actually suggests lazy programming more than anything else)? If you look on Fangus' legs, there are boxes (they look like ammo cases), and on each box, there are a number of tally marks. Hmmmmmm..... |
They're stone slabs making up a kilt, I think. I'm guessing that's his counting system for his sheep, but after being slung out to protect the world, it could be to count the number of people he killed. Just a thought. I think everything about him look great, from head to toe.
