It looked somehow smoother than 60-80 did, it's hard to explain but it looked like stuff was moving faster. I thought Minecraft capped the framerate.

AlexFili 05-03-2013 11:19 PM

Finally been able to play multiplayer with my best friend in Holland. Maybe his new router is the reason!

RoryF 05-05-2013 08:47 AM

So I said before about the new world generation always being jungles, the server I have ended up giving me what seemed like an endless snow plains with about 2 trees and 3 sheep. No other animals, and was probably the worst world I've ever had. I tried something else and ended up with this:

[fyi: WorldEdit wand has nothing to do with the terrain]

It's now pretty much that, but everywhere. It's awesome.

Crashpunk 05-05-2013 11:23 AM

I've been playing a bit of Minecraft on my mate's server and I really don't enjoy it as much as I did. I find the game really dull and boring despite all these newish features that I've just learnt about. Maybe it's because I've ran out of things to do, or maybe it's the actual game. Perhaps I should try some Mods or Adventure maps, I would try Tekkit again but that just turns too complicated.

I don't know how YouTubers who make daily Minecraft videos do it...

RoryF 05-05-2013 11:30 AM

You should try messing around with the Terrain Control mod, you can generate some really cool stuff with it. It allows you to change nearly all generation options.

And the most important: stop jungles spawning.

It does look complicated if you look at it in general. Seeing all the possibilities can be overwhelming. I also got into Tekkit recently, started a little single player world to play in. It kinda brings back the old MC feel where you weren't always sure about what things were. At one point, I climbed up a mountain and saw a huge dark formation as high as a larger pine tree, which turned out to be a really tall oil source. There are also mysterious clouds appearing on ground level every now and then. I have no clue what they do, but I don't want to look it up yet - the mysteries seem to be driving my experience of Tekkit forward, it seems.

DarkHoodness 05-06-2013 11:45 AM

A new version of Tekkit was released recently, perhaps more streamlined than previous versions but missing some of the cornerstone mods which made the previous versions great, such as RedPower 2 and IndustrialCraft.

I'm yet to try it out, but it does look fun. Now is a good time to try Tekkit out again if you haven't been back to it for a while, anyway.

dripik 05-08-2013 12:17 AM

Removing IndustrialCraft sounds like a weird idea. Those machines were kinda the most interesting things for me (and probably for many others) in Tekkit.

Also: what is this.

Ridg3 05-08-2013 09:13 AM

It made me think of Midgar but I can't explain the floating jobbies.

Wings of Fire 05-08-2013 09:20 AM

It's also very clearly in space.

Ridg3 05-08-2013 09:27 AM

There was that as well.

Bullet Magnet 05-10-2013 10:37 AM

Asgard?

RoryF 05-19-2013 06:20 AM

Is anyone else getting it where Minecraft generates a weird part of land/underground area where stone is entirely absent leaving floating ores, dirt and fallen gravel? It looks ugly as hell and I even found one on the unmodified world on my server, but it's under the ocean.

Some fucked up world generator it seems, only happened since 1.5 whatever. I had one time it deleted all stone from a whole cliff on single player.

Crashpunk 08-04-2013 01:30 AM

Gosh after watching that, I didn't realise how much I miss the server. I had my best moments in Minecraft on there.

nowadays I don't play it at all.

Phylum 08-04-2013 02:22 AM

What kind of timeframe do we have on part 4?

Now that I don't have anyone to play with I barely touch MC any more either. I'm keen to try out some mod ideas, but I'm still waiting on the API.

Havoc 08-04-2013 04:41 AM

I want to try and edit all the parts in the next two weeks. But I'm working on some other big stuff as well so I can't make any promises.

Phylum 08-09-2013 08:45 PM

Jeb is working on new biome generation features.

Clay hills, not sold on this yet.

These forests have a new type of soil, which basically looks like dirt and won't allow grass to grow on it.

Cliffs.

Leaf litter?

Phylum 08-09-2013 10:33 PM

Podzol!

Bullet Magnet 08-10-2013 09:59 AM

I like the clay hills, I had always hoped to see deep red desert rocks and real stratification. I often see formations in the game that look like amazing desert rocks, but they always turn out to be earth.

STM 08-10-2013 01:59 PM

Nice to see they are absolutely running out of anything of any value to add to the game now. They have shitty, expansive and bland sea biomes with nothing in them. Any updates for those?

Wil 08-10-2013 03:10 PM

Apparently, yes. But I'm not holding my breath for it being anything amazing.

Splat 08-14-2013 02:58 PM

Heheh, holding breath... Cus it's the sea. Heheh.

In other news, I like the look of the forest and cliffs could be cool if they put a bit more effort into them than that. Nice invitation for sea-caves in my mind...
Though to be honest, Minecraft is a bit tired to my mind. I might dip into it once every few months but no matter what they add, I doubt it'll recapture the excitement of those early days. Once you've built a couple of really big castles, there's not much left to do except recreate scenery from Time Team, and even that doesn't have the staying power.

dripik 08-15-2013 01:59 AM

Sea caves would be cool if there was scuba gear available in the game. Otherwise, you'd need to block of the entrance and laboriously remove all the water blocks from the inside as well, in order to mine stuff. Or just swim around in them until you die, if that's your thing.

Yeah, MC has no appeal to me either anymore. I might have started the game up once since the latest update, but none of the content was interesting enough for me to stay longer than finding my way out of the jungle I spawned in.

I'l looking forward to Starbound. If it catches on around here, it could be turned into the new Forums game...

Crashpunk 08-16-2013 01:00 PM

Still waiting on that OWF and VGToolbox crossover thingy. If it was even a thing to being with.

Wings of Fire 04-23-2014 03:37 AM

Bumped for Phylum.

Phylum 04-23-2014 03:54 AM

So anyone keen on getting a server up to explore an exciting new world?

Havoc 04-23-2014 04:21 AM

My Minecraft server is still up and running. Adding a new 1.8 world next to the current one shouldn't be much of a problem. Or you could just explore the current one beyond it's borders once the update hits.

Phylum 04-23-2014 05:05 AM

The video is about setting new generation options for worlds. It won't work in existing ones.

I was thinking less of a regular server thing, and more of a getting a few people together at the same time and exploring/colonising thing.

WolfensteinOdess 04-23-2014 06:19 AM

Woo, you can make fu***** nice worlds with that option :o

RoryF 04-23-2014 07:12 AM

So basically this is TerrainControl built into vanilla Minecraft with an actual GUI? Been waiting for ages, I take it the world is no longer customisable after it's generated though right?

Crashpunk 04-23-2014 09:03 AM

That's really nice but I doubt that will get me back into Minecraft. I think my time with that game has ended.

Which is odd to say since I still watch Minecraft videos...

STM 04-23-2014 12:15 PM

^ Basically this, except I don't watch Minecraft videos. :P

For me, Minecraft stopped being fun when it became rather more complex, I just loved it most for what it was a la 1.7 - 1.8.

Though, if this generation thingie is any good I might give it a go.
