Can someone good with redstone lend me a helping hand? I'm getting a headache dealing with all of the wiring I need for my current project.

I'm currently working on a railway setup with 5 stops and 5 3-way rail junctions controlled by 3 levers at each station. I'm more than capable of wiring them together, but the logic gates to control the outputs from the levers are causing me trouble.

From the first station, the first lever controls the initial direction to either left or right. The next switches send you to one of 4 other stations. I want to set the last 2 switches to control the right half of the track when the initial lever is in one state and the left half when it's in the other.

I've drawn up a table of what I want the input/output to look like.

http://www.oddworldforums.net/attach...1&d=1324552118

In this table the first input controls the side of the track and the other two change the state of the left and right outputs on either side. The sides are separated by the "/"

I've tried a few combinations of AND, NAND and NOT gates, but nothing is quite working as desired. If any of you can help me it would be greatly appreciated.

If this isn't clear enough please say something and I'll try to rewrite this post.

Glitch 12-22-2011 03:22 AM

is it important that the left hand side of the track doesn't change when editing the right hand side?

do you know how to do RS Latches?

Phylum 12-22-2011 01:41 PM

Yes, because the 5 stations are joined up in a way that both sides would make travel to one station impossible without going through another.

I don't really see how an RS Latch would be involved.

Scraby 12-23-2011 05:44 AM

okay... i went to check something up at the minecraft wiki about the items and this is what i found.... this is....well its quite not funny.

Crashpunk 12-23-2011 07:40 AM

Wait what? The site must of got hacked or something.

I've been playing the lastest version of the YogBox. I don't really like the RPG elelment of the mod. You spawn, create an empire and thats you pretty safe for the rest of the game, Takes out the survival of the game. There are parts of the mod such as cutting down one block of a tree and the whole tree falls down, (A bit like in terraria) that I really like and they could implant into the game without trouble.

Wil 12-23-2011 08:04 AM

It's a wiki, it doesn't need to be hacked.

I don't really see how an RS Latch would be involved.

If you use a switch to change between editing the left side and the right side, an RS latch would allow for the side not being edited to keep its state. The rest would be a simple case of AND gates mixed with XOR gates

Phylum 12-24-2011 01:03 PM

It doesn't need to remember it's state, though. The lever should be telling it that.

I've put a few basic gates together that demonstrates what I want, but simplified.

This only has one input lever and the "switch". Adding the other lever in is making everything ridiculously complicated, if only because of space limitations.

Glitch 12-25-2011 11:45 AM

So this is what I've got. Please excuse to crudeness of the drawing

http://www.oddworldforums.net/attach...1&d=1324845886

The reason I mention RS Latch is because you will likely need a method to prevent 1 2 3 and 4 from losing its settings after you change S, which means you will need an RS Latch to save the settings. The problem with that approach is that you will likely need a reset switch to reset the current side that the switch is set to.

Other than that, if it's currently possible to create small flip flops then it will better to use a flip flop for each output.

Either way, it's best to have buttons rather than switches for input 1 and 2.

A company has set up a way to print 3d models of your Minecraft creations. Which I think is awesome.

This works perfectly. Thankyou! I plan on doing a video and releasing the map once I'm done, so I'll be sure to credit you.

That, Nate, is very cool. Though that woman with the Eiffel Tower looks creepily pleased with herself.

I would keep a backup of the 1.0 .jar file if you want to continue playing on the server for the time being, though.

EDIT: BTW, select "Pirate" from the language menu and take a look at the item descriptions in creative mode. :)

yay magma cubes finally drop magma cream XD

DarkHoodness 01-18-2012 04:31 PM

Just 'cause I always wanted to build this:

However if this is ever built somewhere on the OWF server as a rail system, I sure as hell aren't doing it in survival mode.

Havoc 01-18-2012 04:33 PM

But... you already built a subway system. That one just has a fancier station. And don't you think you get to use creative for everything now, just because you're allowed to use it for RF :p.

Phylum 01-18-2012 04:42 PM

I'm currently working on a much tidier design for a railway station, although the more I think about it the more ludicrous it would be to implement. It would take ridiculous lengths of redstone wire.

That's what this was for.
http://www.oddworldforums.net/attach...1&d=1324845886

DarkHoodness 01-18-2012 05:04 PM

Nah, I just felt like building a fancier, semi-realistic station that looks good even though it functions just the same as my ordinary stations. It's unlikely this will ever be built as part of a "real" project considering the Oddworld-related things that I'm planning.

Mudokon_Master 01-18-2012 05:58 PM

It's nice. I rarely get to travel trains in real life, it's just exciting waiting in a subway. Call me weird, but I rarely get to visit cities and I love city life. +rep
