That new episode of Breaking Bad, oh my god. This season is already shaping up to be better than the last one.

I just saw The World's End. It was... okay. Not bad. But there were no big laughs for me and it just felt... shallow. Unsubstantial. I don't mind silly and ridiculous films; after all, I loved Shaun and Fuzz. It's just that the earlier films were just more... everything.

As you can probably tell, I'm having trouble expressing what I didn't like about it.

Nepsotic 08-20-2013 06:24 AM

Was it as big a disappointment as Paul?

Haven't seen it. And I wasn't expecting much of Paul as I was of this.

Basically, I have no particular expectations of a Simon Pegg film, but I do have high expectations of anything from Edgar Wright.

Mac Sirloin 08-21-2013 06:53 AM

I never found Shaun or Hot Fuzz to be particularly funny, to be honest. I thought they were good movies; well shot and solidly written but they never made me bust a gut the way people seem to think they should, and I've never watched them with anyone who says so who actually did get such a laugh. Maybe it needs more drunk male prostitutes to get a laugh out of me. I just think of them as competent action films, which is all they really are. World's End looks annoyingly similar with a bigger budget.

Edgar Wright peaked with Scott Pilgrim vs. The World

i want to see World's End but i didn't particularly like Hot Fuzz. or Paul. only one i liked was SOTD for some reason. therefore i anticipate disappointment. never know though.

Crashpunk 08-21-2013 02:08 PM

I saw that last week. Since I didn't read or watch anything about the film, The whole thing took me by surprise. Therefore I really enjoyed it. The whole film was just funny throughout.

Mr. Bungle 08-21-2013 03:23 PM

I saw Pacific Rim last night. It kicked ass, go see it.

For what it's worth, it's closer in tone and content to SotD than the other two films.

Paul actually has nothing to do with the other three. It's not part of the trilogy.

OANST 08-22-2013 08:22 AM

How is it a trilogy? Are you saying they are the same characters?

:

Each film in the trilogy is connected to a Cornetto ice cream, with a Cornetto of the appropriate flavour appearing in each film.[2][3] Shaun of the Dead features a strawberry-flavoured Cornetto, which signifies the film's bloody and gory elements,[4] Hot Fuzz includes the blue original Cornetto, to signify the police element to the film,[5] and The World's End features the green mint chocolate chip flavour in a nod to aliens and science fiction. Oh, so it isn't a trilogy. Okay.

MeechMunchie 08-22-2013 12:12 PM

Wings, what is your sudden obsession with toplel?

Oh, so it isn't a trilogy. Okay.

Yes it is a trilogy. It's three unrelated stories with little nods to each other, such as the characters, which are basically the same, the fence jumping and oh yeah, Cornettos. It's a trilogy.

Manco 08-22-2013 02:27 PM

A wink, a nod and an ice cream do not a trilogy make.

Nepsotic 08-22-2013 02:28 PM

Well it's official name is "The Cornetto Trilogy". Make of that what you will.
:

A trilogy is a set of three works of art that are connected, and that can be seen either as a single work or as three individual works.

Varrok 08-22-2013 02:40 PM

Well... I ate some ice cream today. It's tetralogy now.

Wings of Fire 08-22-2013 02:43 PM

It's a dumb joke. The only thing it represents is the creator's total lack of funny isn't just limited to inside their films.

Let's please not argue whether it's a trilogy or not. It's a stupid trilogy, but it's their damn trilogy and they said it is so that's that.

Nepsotic 08-22-2013 02:44 PM

Yes but you're not Simon Pegg or Nick Frost, and you didn't attempt to jump over a fence and fail miserably.

Damn, WoF, too speedy.

OANST 08-23-2013 08:22 AM

Did you know that my feet are actually eggs?

MeechMunchie 08-23-2013 08:26 AM

We were all eggs at one point.

Vyrien 08-23-2013 08:55 AM

So deep MM. So, so deep.

OANST 08-23-2013 09:35 AM

Not as deep as....eh, that joke's old. Older than Cornetto ice cream. Now it's a quintology.

MeechMunchie 08-23-2013 11:14 AM

We're an Oddworld forum. We love fake quintologies.

Crashpunk 08-23-2013 12:35 PM

We're THE Oddworld Forum. Anyone other forum is false.

Slog Bait 08-23-2013 12:43 PM

Are there even any other active Oddworld forums out there? When I joined this was the only one I could find

OANST 08-23-2013 12:45 PM

If there were others, I would just go post my fanfics in them.

MeechMunchie 08-23-2013 12:52 PM

I think there was a Portuguese one at some point. A guy stopped by to advertise it and maybe steal some OWF design assets.
