Manco 05-28-2012 07:55 AM

If we’re going to have a Survival Game of our own, we should start planning now – there’s so much to consider!
  • Who’s in?
  • Do we want to have teams, or is it solo only?
  • What rules will be in place?
  • Who will be the judge?
  • Is someone going to record it?
  • How long will we spend on it?
  • What day(s) can people be on for it?
  • Should we have any plugins running? (e.g. kills/deaths tracker)
  • Will we need to use an older version of Minecraft (i.e. if an update goes out that breaks the map/server)

dripik 05-28-2012 09:05 AM

Good points there, Manco. I guess teaming up could be an option, but I wouldn't force it - going alone may be an advantage sometime. In the video I saw of it, people received some random starting items and 32 torches. I think keeping the torch idea is reasonable, but do we want the other random stuff?

Also, how is the hosting going to be solved? I could host, I suppose, but my computer, and consequently the gameplay, may suffer if there is a huge turn up.

Well guys I made a mod for minecraft,it has a new mob,but I have trouble finding a new custom generated structure,so if anyone wants to try it,feedback would be nice :D OH i think the mod needs modloader for the structure to spawn.

Having a standard amount of torches is a good idea, as from what I saw survival gets very dependent on navigating/mitigating dark areas. I also like the idea of laying torches being a “do I want to risk giving my position away?” kind of choice.

Other gear is probably a no-no – the Yogscast video makes it clear that giving people weapons randomly at the start gives those players a BIG advantage.

I think teams would work best as an on-the-fly deal – no official teams, but people are free to work together and betray one another to their heart’s content.

So what's going on with Minecraft.com? I want to download the game on my Mac but every time I visit the site it gives me a "Minecraft.com is currently offline. Please check back shortly" message. It's been doing this for a few days. All I want is the damn client so I can play again...

dripik 05-29-2012 10:33 PM

It's www.minecraft.net. You should try this address, it's working on my end.

Mr. Bungle 05-30-2012 03:22 AM

Wow, now I feel like a moron, heh. Thanks. Guess that's a sign I haven't played Minecraft in too long.

Nate 07-07-2012 10:02 PM

Revived, so that people can discuss general Minecraft things.

Crashpunk 07-08-2012 08:32 AM

Awesome. Well the info about the new snapshot is over at the OWF Minecraft thread if your intrested.

Oh and the release date for 1.3 is the 1st August. :)

MeechMunchie 07-18-2012 06:41 AM

That's the Creeper blowing up at the start.

Bullet Magnet 07-25-2012 04:25 PM

I think Rupture Farms has been overshadowed somewhat.

Pfft, there are several other, much more impressive things out there than what I'm doing. Look for a little bit and you'll find a few instantly. That's the beauty of Minecraft... While that Game of Thrones thing does look incredibly good and the Minecraft constructs themselves are impressively done, it does seem he copied his maps into a 3D rendering program to take those screenshots... Cheating a bit. :P

In the mean time, my map will be a playable adventure that will work with ordinary Minecraft (cosmetic mods to improve atmosphere are optional), and I intend to cram in a lot of detail eventually.

Bullet Magnet 07-28-2012 09:24 AM

Actually his used lighting and reflection mods.

Not dissing your work at all. I'd have been proud to contribute to that had I my own computer to run it... which come to think of it, I now do.

Havoc 07-28-2012 10:08 AM

What are you waiting for? You should dish out some cash and go buy the freaking game!

MeechMunchie 07-30-2012 05:36 AM

DarkHoodness 07-30-2012 10:08 AM

Think my map needs to be actually finished and my graphics card to be more powerful for me to take advantage of this properly though - Plus Rupture Farms is not meant to look beautiful in the sunrise/sunset. It's meant to be dark, oppressive, foreboding... But still, the shader mod is nice to play with and looks as though it can spruce up any Minecraft creation. :)

STM 07-30-2012 10:25 AM

Rupture Farms has never looked prettier!

Crashpunk 07-30-2012 10:28 AM

That shaders mod doesn't work on my PC. The water turns purple and there are no lighting changes :(

'tis a shame because it looks amazing.

Wil 07-30-2012 10:40 AM

At first I was all "Oh hey, clever way of using different coloured blocks to create the illusion of shadow," but then I was all "Oh hey, it's a dynamic shadow shader! Awesome!"

Crashpunk 07-30-2012 01:00 PM

I got it working... However my game runs at 1 fps and my computer sounds like it's crying.

Poor guy.

Phylum 07-30-2012 03:23 PM

My computer can handle the SE GLSL mod fairly well, although some settings don't work because I don't have a real graphics card yet. If you need any promo shots I'll be happy to give it a go.

Nate 07-31-2012 03:41 AM

What is that at the top-left of the picture?

Havoc 07-31-2012 05:25 AM

A blimp.

Nate 07-31-2012 05:38 AM

Like from MO? Have you got any closer pics of it?

STM 07-31-2012 05:42 AM

I think you can see it in the thread in FC, more close up.

DarkHoodness 07-31-2012 08:02 AM

Yeah it's meant to be the blimp from MO as an explanation to why the player spawns where they do. The story explanation is that they arrive with the Glukkons as a personal slave to them. It can be seen at the start of the preview vid here.

And here's an old pic before I improved the textures and details slightly:
http://www.oddworldforums.net/attach...1&d=1337594518

E:
I'm implementing a few easter eggs like that throughout the map - Or at least to the best of my abilities considering my lack of artistic skill and the fact that it's Minecraft. I hope they'll be recognisable.

STM 07-31-2012 08:09 AM

Have you considered making an entire Rupture Farms texture pack? Or having someone do it? Or is there a complete one already? I can't remember. This should probably be a question for FC, sorry.

DarkHoodness 07-31-2012 08:11 AM

I'm in the process of making one. You can see the results in both the screenshots and the video I keep linking to.

E: Anyway, the point of me posting those here was to try out the shader mod - But it's a shame that it's not compatible with other mods... One thing I did notice was that the super-cool lighting effects are lost both at night and when you enter buildings. Torches and light sources don't seem to glow as much as they should, or offer dynamic shadows, unlike sunlight.

But it's still a cool mod none-the-less.

Wil 07-31-2012 08:19 AM

Have you considered building RuptureFarms using Tekkit? It would give a lot more options when making puzzles and a whole lot of extra detail available to the aesthetic side of things, plus it's regularly maintained in an easy-to-install package. The downside is that the mods that are added and removed change quite a bit.

DarkHoodness 07-31-2012 08:36 AM

I've considered it, but it doesn't seem compatible with the sound mod pack, and I'd rather keep it so that the map will work with ordinary, unmodded minecraft - There's less to rely on that way. Any mods I'll be using to enhance atmosphere are purely cosmetic so that the map can function without them if they never get updated while Minecraft does.

I think I can make enough variety in the puzzles with ordinary Minecraft redstone, pistons, mob spawning, TNT, and traps. There are a few ideas I've had which I'm developing, and a few ways to make Minecraft behave in ways other than it should without modding it.

MeechMunchie 07-31-2012 11:14 AM

I think the same guy made a Depth-of-Field mod.

STM 08-02-2012 02:37 AM

So with 1.3.1 out on Minecraft I tried to update my copy and play. Unfortunately it pauses while installing and eventually comes up with an error message: fatal error (4): Connection Reset. I've never had this problem before and as per, the internet which is supposed to be a fountain of knowledge doesn't help. Has anyone had this problem an managed to fix it?

dripik 08-02-2012 03:53 AM

I had no problems with updating and playing. Started a new world with the Large Biomes option, with "ineveraskedforthis" as the seed, which results you spawning in a huge jungle, with cocoa seed all over the trees. No problems so far.

Have you seen this thread? It might help - apparently, it's not a unique problem.

RoryF 08-02-2012 04:02 AM

I had one problem with 1.3.1 which a lot of people have had which was that my skin turned back into the regular one instead of my black-armoured doomguy. Although all I had to do was reset it on their website.

Minecon 2012 is in Disney Land Paris! The only reason I can think of for a 18 year old male like myself to go to Disney Land! And since Paris isn't too far from the UK, I might actually go!

Bwahahahah. I used to be like you, boy. Back then, I thought I would find Disneyland cheesy, or that I would find some way to enjoy it ironically. How silly I was.

enchilado 08-02-2012 07:35 PM

Are you saying you didn't enjoy it or all or you enjoyed it unironically?
