Even though I have it on Xbox, I got Portal 2 on Steam. Purely so I could use the Perpetual Testing Initiative. I'm not disappointed.

I bought The Binding of Isaac (or The Blinding of Issac as MM used to say) since I bought it from the Steam flash sale. It's pretty disturbing but good.

Did you also buy the DLC? Because if so you are kinda fucked for a long ass time until you are good enough to get through that game. The DLC replaces the original and makes it like 10x harder.

I finished Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine. Really solid game, a tad generic in places (TOO MANY GREY/BROWN CORRIDORS) and a 'meh' final boss. Although killing him by CRUSHING HIS HEAD WITH YOUR BARE HANDS was awesome.

Varrok 07-19-2012 02:28 PM

It's not really that harder (BoI DLC). There are just more enemies with different tactics to remember. It should be bought after completing original game 10 times or more

Well fuck. I bought it after playing for 31 hours and killing Mom once.

Varrok 07-19-2012 02:34 PM

Killing mom in the Depths or killing her in the Womb?

Killing mom in the Depths or killing her in the Womb?

My Mom kill count is at 0 but I know for a fact I have killed her. I have the epilogue

Varrok 07-19-2012 02:43 PM

epilogue is before killing mom for real :)

Laser 07-19-2012 02:47 PM

Fuck.

MeechMunchie 07-19-2012 02:52 PM

You've only knocked her unconscious. You have to finish her off.

Then finish off the evil within her.

Then finish off the greater evil that placed that evil within her.

Then finish off yourself, for reasons that are not well explained.

You're looking at 40+ more completions here, buddy.

I realized THAT but I thought I killed Mom the first time. I didn't know it didn't 'count'

Varrok 07-19-2012 02:57 PM

That's still not 100% completion, that what Varrok above said

MeechMunchie 07-19-2012 02:59 PM

Well, no. For that you've got the item challenges, collectibles and "Hardcore mode" (i.e. no damage taken)... most of those are just luck, though.

Laser 07-19-2012 03:00 PM

I love the items in BoI. So horrible and crazy. Stem Cell especially.

No no, I mean there's something AFTER that 40+ completions.

Mr. Bungle 07-19-2012 03:02 PM

I played Binding of Isaac for about an hour, got frustrated/bored and stopped. Just not my kind of game I guess. Too much repitition.

Ironicly I love Super Meat Boy.

MeechMunchie 07-19-2012 03:05 PM

To be fair, SMB isn't randomised, and you've got a visible sense of progress. You couldn't do that "mass replay" thing with BoI.

Crashpunk 07-20-2012 12:45 AM

The problem I have with Binding of Isaac is that it's just too weird. I know it's meant to be but it's still disgusting.

Also I'm terrible at it.

Phylum 07-20-2012 12:55 AM

I'm glad you mentioned that last bit so that I didn't have to call you on it.

There is some odd imagery, but most people are put off by perma-death. It took me ages to feel like I was good at it, but then I saw how well MM was doing that put me off.

e: I said put off twice, but I can't be arsed rewording it.

Varrok 07-20-2012 01:37 AM

I'm a gamer and I was pretty sure they see that much to not have limits in disgust anymore

What? Am I? I've only just got past It Lives.

Phylum 07-20-2012 05:05 AM

And I'm nowhere near there :(

There was a time when we were at a similar place, but then you just took off and killed Mom several times. I'm still on 1 real kill.

MeechMunchie 07-20-2012 05:18 AM

Eh. It's just practice, really. I just do a "Death-per-day" while I eat my lunch.

You should try the challenges. "Meat 4 Evar!" and "Spiderboy!" are fairly easy.

EDIT: Also I use the mouse to fire, so I don't have to keep my mind on another set of buttons.

I really want to play this game. I'm pissed that it's not on Live Arcade.

Varrok 07-20-2012 06:13 AM

It's a flash game. I don't think there are any flash games on xbox.

dripik 07-20-2012 06:29 AM

I recently picked up BoI. I can't say I'm playing it all the time, but it's good to make a couple of attempts to beat it at the end of each day on the laptop. No luck so far, but I enjoy the randomness of the items you receive, which might or might not give you the edge you need to survive. I was once lucky enough to get Technology, Meat, Roid Rage and some other stuff which really made a good combination, but I still managed to get killed somehow.

Fun game, all in all. It reminds me to get back to Dungeons of Dredmor, which to me was just as fun, if not even more. Even though permadeath is optional there, I never turn it off, it just adds to the experience. I only managed to beat Dredmor once on Dwarven Moderation (Normal), I'm currently in the process of beating it on Going Rogue (Hard), which is quite a challenge and involves a lot of backtracking through previous levels for healing items.

Tony Hawks Pro Skater HD. Playing this game has made me realize that games today are made far too easy for gamers...

Difficulty aside, it's a great game, but if like me you haven't played a pro skater game in years, it's going to take a good few tries before you get the hang of it again. Great fan service as all the levels have been remade straight from THPS1 and THPS2. They are currently plans to add the levels from THPS3 as DLC which really pisses me off as the game already costs 1200MSP. I would have quite happily waited longer for the game to be released just to have all the levels already there.

Oh, and no Neversoft Eyeball :'(

OANST 07-20-2012 06:46 AM

I really want to play this game. I'm pissed that it's not on Live Arcade.

But probably not surprised. I mean, look at it. It's a naked, crying infant blasting deformed retards into bloody mush in an attempt to escape the murderous Christian fanaticism of his obese mother.

If you were really desperate, I guess you could lug your PC into the living room and connect it to the TV, but I wouldn't blame you for doing otherwise.

OANST 07-20-2012 07:34 AM

I think it's probably my posture, but playing games on the pc is physically painful for me.

MeechMunchie 07-20-2012 10:15 AM

I know that. That's why I didn't say "Why don't you just sit at your desk and use the computer derp".

Personally, my back is currently on the seat of the chair, my neck squashed against the back and my feet sticking up the wall like a big letter 'J'. Man, I am going to have some serious deformities in old age.

EDIT: Just for clarity, the idea was that you'd use a 360 pad and basically just use the PC like a console post-setup. Then again, presumably you need it for work too, so it would be too much hassle to shift it back again. I have known people to buy a seperate "entertainment" PC for that purpose, but those people probably have more money than sense.

It's times like this that I wish the "Steam Box" wasn't just an urban legend. It would just be a console-level PC (i.e. powerful by console standards, average by PC standards) with Steam and a minimal operating system installed. Put it next to the TV, plug it in, all set. It would literally just be a little PC that you used like a console, and probably quite cheap. Revolutionary! A man can but dream, though...
