I really like Prokofiev, and Charles seems to make a lot of atmospheric pieces or like.. calm... Either way, Prokofiev seems to lie closer to my tastes. |

If you ever get the chance (if you haven't already), you should listen to the instrumental version of "The Indians" and you should listen to "Holidays Symphony". Really interesting pieces (although Charles Ives' style leans more towards the real avant-garde stuff than Prokofiev (at least from what I've heard of Prokofiev) - his stuff is incredibly personal music and he never actually hoped to use his music for a commercial purpose - he just wanted to hear it performed purely for himself, which is why he never compromised his dissonance and odd rhythms). You've probably heard a lot of Debussy if you're into classical music. "La soirée dans Grenade" is one of the greatest piano solos I've ever heard. If you don't know that one, listen to it. You'll probably like it. |
I think I'm in love, guys. |
I love this video! and that penguin is mega cute :D |
One of the most emotional performances I've ever seen. |
That tone. I must own it. Surprisingly enough that was the exact video that got me into Hevy Devy. Also, if I was to play any song live it would have to be that but I would only do it if I had members that could do the song justice.
Speaking of Devin in fact, has anybody (who plays guitar) ever tried Open C tuning? It's fantastically fun to mess with... very versatile tuning. On a related note. Steve Vai. Feat. Devin Townsend. Such an epic intro. Vai don't hold no candle to Devy though. |
I've never used open C, I just play in drop C whenever I play Devin's song. Or are they the same thing, just different name?
And Vai is a very good guitar player, but in terms of songwriting he can't hold a candle to Devin. Then again, neither can most. Also, Ridg3, did you hear that Opeth is giving up their growls and death metal sound? |
Open C is CGCGCE whereas Drop C is CGCFAD. Open C can be strung with all strings open and it'll play a clean chord and about that Opeth thing, I thought I would be disappointed but I'm not. Ackerfeldt is an awesome musician and is able to write songs with any vocal style so I'm certain enough that the album would be a damn good one.

Same here. I'm definitely interested considering how Damnation was my favourite Opeth album.

Tom Waits. Nuff said. |
I've never realized how well I can relate to these lyrics until now. Kind of scary. |
I know a lot of people get snobby about Green Day, but they seem fine to me.

American friend: English Northerners? What are they?
Me: EDIT: Saw these guys at a ukelele festival. They have a good washboard player. |
Best ever. |
I wanted to learn this song... then I didn't. Steve Vai can lick his anus. |
This thread needs more gypsies.
