@JackOGara - Welcome to OWF.
I'm glad they're doing a proper overhaul and not just tweaking some graphics like other HD re-releases... That would be such a wasted opportunity. Agreed with Sekto, BTW - If you want the nostalgia of the old game, it's available on Steam and PSN, and still works on modern systems... |
If they are changing anything,I would prefer it to be the gameplay rather than the storyline. As long as they keep the levels, controls and voices relatively the same then I don't think any of us should have a problem with a remake. They aren't recreating history, they are bringing it back, in modern day technology
Yeah, I believe they should change up the levels to suit their original vision.
There should possibly be moving backgrounds with sligs randomly walking in and out of the backgrounds on patrol or mudokons (these wouldn't be counted in the Escapee/Employee counter, as if this actually happened they would just be a background occurrence) being shuffled off in chains, different types of Mudokons doing different jobs rather than just scrubbing the floors or walls, maybe completely random intercom announcements from glukkons that would wake sligs up at any time, and you never knew when it was gonna happen. Perhaps as was stated before there might be surveillance systems that follow you when you walk by them? |
As far as I could see, the soundtrack is not much discussed here. How about that topic? The original soundtrack is amazing, but a few changes in the level would be excellent, like in FeeCo Depot, where we could hear "people" talking and trains arriving/departing and every detail you could found on a real train station. I think it would give another level of approaching.
I'm pretty sure Molluck is the only Glukkon stationed at RuptureFarms full time, and that he has no direct involvement with the chaff. It's a gigantic packing plant, not a middle school. The LED boards have always been the source of propaganda, and I prefer it that way.
As for the soundtrack, it has been discussed, but not really in detail. Everyone seems to be in agreement that it should be as similar to the original as possible. |
I think soundtrack has been mentioned a few times, but mostly to do with the free fire zone being the same music as the theme tune. In my opinion the music should be kept the same, otherwise it won't feel real anymore
I don't recall hearing people talking in Feeco.
He was suggesting that it be added.
Oh, right. I think that would ruin it a bit. Places in AE and O, especially the Stockyards and Feeco, have a certain level of creepiness about them. Add voices and what not, that would take the sense of loneliness away, and therefore the bad vibes will go too.
Plus, it stands to reason that all the areas in Feeco Abe was exploring were outside of the main terminal where the passengers would be.
Yes, those area's were just for excutives, no?
Well yeah, you're not gonna put your slaves up in an area where the general population is, nor will you put the vicious dogs..or armed guards..near them either.
I don't think that matters in Oddworld though. I mean, they put bombs and meat grinders in random places in RF, they're just gameplay devices, thats all.
Well from a gameplay perspective they make sense, and story wise i guess you couldn't really argue with them as no sane person would ever go there in the first place unless they were forced to.
I think it would be cool if one part of Feeco would be in the main terminal and you have to sneek past passengers or something. The other part would be in the executive offices where you have to deal with tougher security.
..or re-open the condemned door to the RF terminal in feeco as an extra..?
I'm pretty sure we went over the RF door a thousand times.

I am for the idea of animated backgrounds. I would like to see trains passing on distant tracks and the like. Perhaps have one pass above you, and the roaring engine and steam whistle vibrates your controller. |
Reminds me of the screen in paramonia with the rotating windmill in the background. But lets not get too far ahead, its AO they're remaking at the moment, lets save the AE ideas for later.

As for the passengers noises and whatnot, I thought that it would be interesting, but the loneliness of the level is something you really can't mess with, so I'll just have to agree with you, and having a "screen" or zone where you get to see passengers and all that. Or not. I'm fine with the actual level. |
I'd laugh if you could get hit by a train like Paramonian temple's Z balls... but it wouldn't look really serious.
I can't imagine why they would build a catwalk in front of a train path.
They're not like humans though, glukkons like wasting money, even if they may not realise it.

Now if there's a walkway below the tracks that had limited height clearance, that would make more sense. If Abe is standing when a train passes, he would get clipped and knocked off his perch, so he'd have to roll. |
Thays a cool puzzle idea.
That would be good for getting to a level, having to dodge incoming and outgoing trains.
To be honest though, he's more likely to have his skull smeared across the front of the train than just knocked over. Though his decapitated body might stumble off the edge.
That reminds me...
Now that Sherry McKenna isn't around to censor everything, how much gore can we expect to see? |
I think they want it to be more accessible.
I want more. |
I think these days, a bit of gore is pretty accessible.
They should retain the one hit Kill mechanic from AO.
When abe gets shot it would be epic to see him clutch his head and fall over backwards, twitching. Wait..that would be horrible...y...awesome..:D |

As long as it's not a childish amount, like MO.
:
That's like asking me to stop... what's a thing I do?
:
aw man I wanted to see scrabs rip abe's limbs off when he gets eaten :(

I also assumed Aslik returned to Feeco sometime during your expeditions to Bonewerkz and Slig Barracks. |
