Mr. Bungle 12-14-2011 03:30 AM

I started playing Rage the other day. It's a pretty solid game, but it wasn't quite what I expected. I feel like Id past their prime a long time ago, and should just go back to making Quake-esque shooters rather than trying to branch out like they have been.

I've also been playing through Fable: The Lost Chapters once again for the first time in ages. Love it to death.

BoneyHead95 12-14-2011 03:51 AM

I'am playing Battlefield 3 right now. But I must complete The Orange Box. Keep forgetting to play it. :D

Crashpunk 12-14-2011 09:15 AM

Don't forget! The Orange Box is an amazing collection of games. :)

Jordan 12-14-2011 09:42 AM

I neeeeed it for the PC so badly. I want to play Half-Life 2 dagnabbit!

I've just read the entire origins story of Rayman and Globox was cut from Rayman Origins? Then why is it still called RAYMAN ORIGINS!

Origins in the sense that it's back to its origins as a 2-D platformer. Trufax.

Phylum 12-14-2011 01:57 PM

Plus, when they announced it and released the first trailer it was still about the Origins story. They weren't going to change the name after that.

JennyGenesis 12-14-2011 02:06 PM

Tonight I went to a friends house and me, him and his brother played on Rayman on the PS1.

To be honest, I actually find it better than Origins,

Strangely I think the graphics are better than Origins and that the controls feel better. If it had infinite lives then it would make the game a whole lot better, the memories were quickly coming back about how difficult and frustrating this game is.

Phylum 12-14-2011 02:25 PM

Did your glasses come with rose-tinting?

JennyGenesis 12-14-2011 03:16 PM

What?

jumper 12-14-2011 03:25 PM

It sounds more like nostalgia speaking. Try to be more objective.

Daxter King 12-14-2011 03:29 PM

He was hinting that you only think it looks better through nostalgia. I can see Jenny thinking the original looks better if he prefers the art style of it over Origins. I dont see how you can argue it is nostalgia, since usually all that goes away once you actually experience what you remembered again. At least, it does for me.

Anyways, playing the new campaign expansion for Gears 3. It is fucking great. Bosses aside, probably the DLC is probably harder than most of the original Gears 3 campaign. Also, the COG sections capture the feel of Gears 1 perfectly. The music, scenery, and everything just make it feel like Gears 1. It even has that little hint of horror, just like Gears 1 did. Epic should really do a horror game, because they would be fucking great at it.

You also play as RAAM in some sections, these play out a lot like the Brumak from Gears 2. That is to say, you are pretty much an unstoppable murder monster with unlimited ammo. Im about two hours in and not sure where I stand on how close I am to beating it. Great addition to Gears 3, and makes me wish more devs would do single player DLC.

JennyGenesis 12-14-2011 04:11 PM

In terms of graphics in both games, this will sound strange, but everything looks "too clean" in origins, I can't describe it, but I just prefer the graphics of the original.

StrangerEastwood 12-14-2011 04:13 PM

I personally prefer Origins, but I like the integration of the style of 2 and 3. But the original is still awfully beautiful.

Crashpunk 12-15-2011 08:26 AM

I'm sorry but I don't know how you can like Rayman 1 more then Rayman Origins. It improves on the original in every single way. I admit, Rayman 1 has an appeal to it, The graphics are nice and stylised but I always found it to be a frustrating platformer. I've never completed it once.

I also beg for a new Rayman game in the gameplay style as 2 and 3.

JennyGenesis 12-15-2011 08:45 AM

I only find Rayman frustrating because of it's lack of infinite lives. Think of AO, the only reason I had the patience to get through that game was because of infinite lives and the same applies to Origins.

Like I said, if Rayman had infinite lives then it would far exceed Origins IMO.

But that's just my opinion and I don't expect everybody else to have the same opinion as me on this matter.

As much as I'm loving Rayman Origins, I still like Rayman 1 more than it. It may be because of nostalgia, but I think its difficulty makes it more of a hardcore platformer, unlike Origins which is more of a casual, relaxing experience.

Phylum 12-15-2011 01:26 PM

Origins has its moments later into the game, but it doesn't have the same level of difficulty. This is because a large part of the original game's difficulty was fake, requiring previous knowledge of a level and some pretty darn good reflexes to get much farther than the first world.

The levels in Origins are designed to be smoother. I find that if a platform ends in a chase scene the next platform will often be a full jump away, providing little challenge.

Rayman 1 was a more satisfying game because it was so grindingly hard, but I much prefer the overall experience of Origins.

Jordan 12-17-2011 06:11 AM

Not on the topic of "What I'm playing right now", but I didn't know where else to put it.

Why exactly did this go viral?

Dynamithix 12-17-2011 06:20 AM

I started playing Cave Story+ about an hour ago. Really enjoying it already. I had to change the controls though, the default controls are a bit annoying (at least for me).

Also, fuck Prince of Persia classic on XBLA. The controls are so clunky. Fuck.

Mac Sirloin 12-17-2011 02:10 PM

I've been playing Banjo Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts. I've finally gotten to the point where things have to be difficult, though I'm avoiding the Terrarium of Terror and following worlds until I have all of the Jiggies/Jingo tokens/Trophies from the prior levels. Fuckin' Jinjo Combat man.

Has anyone played Divinity II? I picked it up from Wal-Mart on a whim. It's an ugly WRPG.

Youngsy 12-18-2011 05:23 AM

Playing Resident EVil 4, getting back into the PS2 spirit. I've got such a hankering for Conflict: Desert Storm too it's ridiculous.

Crashpunk 12-18-2011 06:20 AM

Been playing Pokemon Heart Gold and mainly training up my team.

AlexFili 12-18-2011 06:30 AM

I am currently playing lots and lots of Tiny Tower. Also just finished Fallout 3's main quest. Wooot. :D

jumper 12-18-2011 08:57 AM

Just completed Spyro 2. Me and my mate at uni are doing a psx platformer binge, whereby we play one that we've never played before whilst the other one watches and helps. So far I've done Spyro 1 and 2, whilst he's part way through Tombi and will start Oddysee after Christmas.

For what it's worth, Spyro 2 is vastly superior to the first game. Less emphasis on collecting items and more on completing various objectives. I'm surprised I never pestered my parents to get me any of the Spyro games when I was younger.

Ridg3 12-18-2011 09:18 AM

Reflex: MX vs ATV

Shockingly good, I don't know why I left it so long to play this. The perfect balance between shittingly frustrating and satisfactory is there, or maybe I'm shit?

Had to make the choice between this and Need for Speed: The Run, and according to my mate, I made the good choice. I heard that The Run is a shit bad game, and that's not even comparing it to the past NFS's.

Well put it this way, The Run is the worst game I have played this year.

I actually consider Modern Warfare 3 to be a better game...

Yeah, that bad...

Dixanadu 12-21-2011 03:40 AM

Having a delightful romp with Assassins Creed: Brotherhood.

I feel bad at myself for not properly introducing myself to this series sooner. The first one shat itself on me, while the second outright refused to work.

I think I spent about two hours dallying about in Rome and getting raped in Borgia towers. I'm such a sucker for exploration.

Also, and I'm not sure why, I switched the language to Italian because it fits the game better. It seems more realistic.

Subtitles turned on, naturally.

I did everything in AC1 and AC2 but could not be ass with AC botherhood. So I only did the story. The online was great but it got really boring and people are overpowered. And I didn't try to take out all the Borgia Towers because I also got raped there as well. (There used rocks to kill me) hehe

What chapter are you on now?

Looking forward to revelations! :D

Mr. Bungle 12-21-2011 04:38 AM

I just can't get into the Assassins Creed series. I played a bit of number 2, thought it was decent, but it just couldn't hold my interest.

The chapter system is awkward as hell to get adjusted to at this moment, but I'm just past the part where the real-world team got set up in the Villa. I've been spending a great amount of time exploring and free-running.

Two side quests made me laugh a bit; helping a woman carry a box and chasing after a horse is the pinnacle of assassin lifestyle, it seems.

And yes, the rocks. Dirty Spaniards.
