It would be nice if you posted the videos.

Nate 01-02-2008 11:14 PM

It was a crappy tv show that referenced computer games.

Question about AE: when Mudokons and Abe reached the Necrum, Abe fell into Mines. Then, in Zulag 2, he found his friends but they were working. Why were they working? Have they been captured by Sligs? And when Abe found them, and they entered the temple (I posted an image of it) they said that they have come to the Necrum, if they were working before? http://www.oddworld.com/firsttenyear...ll_prod03.html

Wil 01-03-2008 08:05 AM

Well, I was almost right. It’s not the first level RuptureFarms was supposed to reappear in, but the ‘first major outdoor area of the game’. According to Paul O’Connor in one of his designer diary entries:

:

This is a critical venue because it includes the tutorial areas for our quest system and character‐switching scheme. It will also be the first place that you will encounter (and possess!) a Paramite in the new engine, and it will additionally spotlight the return of Elum to Oddworld.

The region will also house the oh‐so‐spiffy Slog Kennel that was the centerpiece of the demo we did last month (and which has been ground zero for many of our design innovations on this job… check Chapter 5 of this diary for more discussion about the Slog Kennel). There are also a couple of Slig Towers, a free‐fire zone, and (oh, yeah!) we return to the ruins of RuptureFarms to learn….

…well, play the game and find out.

So we go there essentially to learn something, but since this never saw the light of release, we just don’t know. Odds are it has something to do with Molluck’s capture.

The real answer is that OWI couldn’t be bothered to programme in a behaviour that would only be used by five Mudokons, and then only briefly. They may indeed have been captured and put to work, or they may just have lost confidence in themselves when they were separated from Abe and are working to avoid capture.

I’m sorry, I can’t understand what you’re asking.

Oh, and it’s not ‘the Necrum’, it’s just ‘Necrum’.

Excuse me, you're right. I meant: when they entered the temple, they said that they had just past a desert ect, but they worked before arriving to Necrum, why they said this? It's impossible: if Abe didn't find them, they couldn't arrive to Necrum! They were already in Necrum when they entered in the temple. It's a complicated point, is there any answer?

Wil 01-03-2008 10:01 AM

They walked across the desert when they followed Abe to Necrum. The only work they did before setting off for Necrum was working at RuptureFarms with Abe before he rescued them.

For "they worked" I meant they were working in the Mines (Zulag 2) when Abe found them. My question is: why didn't the movie start when they arrived to Necrum, but it appears when Abe found them working? My doubt is this, that the movie starts at wrong moment (I think).

Wil 01-03-2008 10:12 AM

No. The movie starts when Abe rediscovers his friends and gets them to work together operating the work wheels that open up the Temple of Life (the temple in the concept art you linked to). You can see it in the background of the screen with the work wheels. When they’re turned, the screen fades to black and the FMV starts with the temple doors opening.

abe is now! 01-03-2008 12:41 PM

But they were working before Abe found them. This is the problem. At the beginning when Abe fell into Mines, have they been captured and forced to work, and then Abe found them and so they went in the SoulStorm Brew's distributor area (with the FMV)?

Wil 01-03-2008 01:02 PM

Yes, they were working. I already offered an explanation as to why. Maybe they were captured and put to work, or maybe they’re just pretending to work so they don’t get captured.

abe is now! 01-04-2008 09:12 AM

I have a question: when Abe destroyed SoulStorm Brewery he fled with a bird portal. But were did he arrive? To Necrum or to Monsaic Sanctum?

Xavier 01-04-2008 09:35 AM

sorry but why would he go back to Necrum?

Fuzzle King 01-04-2008 09:39 AM

im not sure but i think he ended up in the native land or something,as he meets up with munch.

sorry but why would he go back to Necrum?

Because the place where he arrived looks like Necrum. We can see many trees.
http://www.oddworld.com/firsttenyear...op_middle.html does this place look like to Necrum?http://www.oddworld.com/firsttenyear...cg_middle.html and here we can see Necrum's tress.

Wil 01-04-2008 11:32 AM

I always assumed it was Necrum, what with it having Necrum trees in it. An early idea that Lorne liked for Exoddus was Abe leading his people to a new homeland. By the game’s release this had been boiled down to those images of Muds crossing the Necrum desert, but I had always wondered whether Mudokons started inhabiting Necrum. There are towering ‘dwellings’ in the background, but I can’t recall anything specifying whether they’re dwellings for living or deceased Muds.

OddYouko 01-04-2008 12:34 PM

Isn't Abe on vacation in Necrum?

Wil 01-04-2008 12:56 PM

I came to that conclusion a while ago. I see it still says that on TOE. It also says that elsewhere on the Internet because someone copy/pasted a lot of the content of TOE to Wikipedia, which was then copied by other sites. Actually there’s no direct statement. To explain why Abe and Munch aren’t in Stranger’s Wrath, Lorne said he sent them on vaccation. This ties in with the end of Munch’s Oddysee for the GBA when the Raisin orders the duo to take a holiday. The idea that it was Necrum they went to comes from the final sentence in Abe’s biography on Oddworld.com:
:

Abe has been known to vacation in Necrum, the Mudokon City of the Dead.
But that was in the biography as early as 2001, according to the Internet Archive, which was probably when the article was first uploaded.

Slaveless 01-04-2008 01:32 PM

Is it safe to assume that MO for the GBA is simply non-canon?

Wil 01-04-2008 01:34 PM

Incredibly safe, but it’s not like anything contradicts it.

But so is it Necrum?

A new question about AE: when Necrum Mines has been closed, did anyone reset the ancient place and clean it by Glukkon's facilities? Its land has been dug and ruined by Mudokons and so it needed help. Did anyone this?

It's a mine. I think it was left alone, I've never heard of them returning to it.

A lot of things didn't appear in Oddworld games but we know them because someone is interested and, asking and searching, he finds the answers. So, I don't want to say that you aren't right, but is there a better answer?

Slaveless 01-06-2008 01:27 PM

Oddworld history as we know it doesn't go that far into advance. It pretty much stopped maybe around MO, (since SW I believe happened around the time that MO was going on) and we don't know that much. But anyway, onto a more specific answer...

Well, if the Mudokons took the Necrum Mines apart, then where would they put all of the rubble? I don't think they have a clue to what to do with it.

Bullet Magnet 01-06-2008 03:41 PM

Crazy paving.

Maybe in the surrounding desert? They made buildings as Monsaic Lines, Scrabanian and Paramonian Temple and native architectures. I think they could bring the rubble and thorw them in the desert.

Slaveless 01-07-2008 01:06 PM

Yeah, but it would be against their beliefs to pollute to area. Making buildings is not the same as deconstructing one and leaving the remains somewhere else in nature.

metroixer 01-07-2008 03:53 PM

I think Abe is Now! meant that they used the rubble to build new native structures in the dessert.

abe is now! 01-09-2008 07:02 AM

No, I didn't. I meant they can deposit the rubble in the desert, clean Necrum Mines and restore that land.

OddYouko 01-09-2008 08:37 AM

Ok if you're planning on getting the bad ending on Abe's Exoddus and after you heal Abe's pals(Alf and the others) from brew and get them to use the wheels so you can move on to Disc 2 and say you make them all slap eachother then they're dead and you can go in the well to disc 2 and when you get the bad ending they're there with Abe and knock him out. But you killed them right?
