I really don't understand many peoples instant vehemence of Disney, and I don't want this bullshit evil empire business either.

Disney films are fun, I've grown up with them and have always liked them, Song of the South, The Lion King, Hunchback of Notre Dame and Toy Story are a few of my favourite ever films.

It has Miley Cyrus and John Travolta.

Insta-anti-entertaining.

The only good thing I have to say about John Travolta is that he is the subject in one of my favorite bands' song.

And WoF, whilst Disney isn't my thing, I have to agree with you that they are good. It's thanks to films like Bambi and Pinnochio that I can keep my nephew occupied and actually get things done.

Cuz he's Hitler & Swayze & Trump & Travolta

OddjobAbe 02-07-2009 01:28 PM

Dear Hobo, I would up your reputation to show acknowledgement, but I can't, so instead, I shall just have to tell you that you have an excellent taste in music.

Mac Sirloin 02-07-2009 03:50 PM

I saw Repo: The Genetic Opera. I liked it.

Nate 02-07-2009 04:04 PM

Oh, the trailers for that look awesome.

Hobo 02-07-2009 04:16 PM

Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind.

Wow.

mitsur 02-07-2009 07:02 PM

Lakeview Terrace, with Samuel L Jackson.

More evidence that this man deserves an oscar. He was just about the only good thing in that movie.

Forgettable as hell.

Sweeney Todd.

It was alright.

Toy Story is the only film of those you named that I would give a passing grade to. However, it was made by Pixar and not Disney. While the two are affiliated they are not the same. Pixar is a company full of driven people who love the art of animation and really want to make special films. Disney is a corporation that rehashes the same shit ideas over and over again because they know that you'll take it. Their movies are simply awful and they always have been.

Wings of Fire 02-09-2009 07:15 AM

Each to his or her own I suppose, if I wanted novelty I'd never watch any film in the first place. The soundtracks are always fantastic, the aesops make me smile, I tire quickly of dull action movies and frankly retarded romantic comedies and I find them aesthetically pleasing.

I don't like Disney for the sheer dint of it being Disney, I like it because it mostly pleases me :).

Oh and I can see what you mean in some ways at least, all Disney sequals without exception are fucking awful pieces of shit that I wouldn't grace with more words than is necessary.

OANST 02-09-2009 07:35 AM

I saw 'Slumdog Millionaire' last night. Good film. The dance scene during the credits was hilarious.

OddjobAbe 02-09-2009 07:50 AM

Just finished watching all of the 'Peep Show' episodes again. Hilarious stuff. Even funnier than their own show.

I just finished watching the newest season last week. I do love that show. I've also been watching 'I'm Alan Partridge'. I started with the second series and then watched the first. Not sure why I did it that way.

Except that now Disney own Pixar and John Lasseter is head of all animation for Disney. Which should mean better non-Pixar Disney stuff in the future.

Coraline

Go see it now!

If you don't like this movie I'll send you baked goods.

Hobo 02-10-2009 12:32 PM

I want bakedgoods.

OANST 02-10-2009 01:30 PM

I want this to be in the movie thread. That's what I want. I want it now.

Also hard.

Nate 02-10-2009 03:12 PM

Your wish is my command.

Also hard.

I just watched Eden Log, a french horror/sci-fi/mystery. I was very reluctant at first, having read several reviews and seen the ratings - it didn't interest me at first. The trailer didn't really catch my attention either. But, I only want to judge it after seeing it myself, so I took a peek.

It didn't disappoint. The movie is awesome, visually pleasing (except on one occasion where it's quite disturbing), great score and a very interesting story. It's very atmospheric and dark, but you can still follow what's happening. Like I said, it's an awesome movie, if you enjoyed Alien or 2001: A Space Odyssey and if you can stand a minimal amount of dialogue exchange as well as a put-the-pieces-together-yourself story, you're going to enjoy this movie. It's not a modern Hollywood flick with an obvious story and characters to go with that, so if you're into that kind of stuff, don't hold your breath - but do watch it!

Just saw Slumdog Millionaire a couple nights ago. Best movie I've seen in a while. I agree with Oanst on the dancing. A perfect closer to it.

Cloverfield 02-12-2009 06:35 PM

The last thing I watched was Cloverfield. Again. :p

Cloverfield... (Abe Babe)

Pilot 02-12-2009 07:25 PM

Blech, only worth watching in theatres.

I watched the To Kill a Mockingbird Movie on the weekend, I really need to get more Gregory Peck films.

Cloverfield 02-12-2009 08:45 PM

Yes, true, the TV experience is nothing like the cinema, it definitely loses a lot. Unfortunately TV is all a fan like me has now ... well until the second one. That's why I made sure made the most of when it was in the cinema.

Cloverfield... (Abe Babe)

Bullet Magnet 02-13-2009 04:13 AM

I had to miss it at the cinema on account of university, and also of life whooshing by like the countryside outside the window of the train that is me. Being British, this also explains why I am always late.

I still haven't seen Cloverfield... But I have just seen David Attenborough in a breathtaking Darwin Year program.

OANST 02-13-2009 07:19 AM

I've been watching a lot of 'Curb Your Enthusiasm'. Larry David is a funny man.

Also, holy shit and all that to Abe Babe coming back.

AlexFili 02-13-2009 07:32 AM

I enjoyed watching Reservoir Dogs and Sin City. Two brilliant films.
I recently watched Total Recall on TV again as well, love that film.
GET YOUR ASS TO MARS! :D
