i have now read all of this topic. forgive me now, because i am replying to over 100 posts.
i have learned a lot here. partly about the sick nature of the human brain, but i have mostly learned that pinky and oddbodd are not very nice people. oddbodd: what have you got against hippies? pinky: i have a big book all about the big bang. shall i photocopy it and send you a copy? it explains everything. in fact, i already explained it all to you somewhere, let me go and dig it out... well, maybe it was on the old forums, but what you're saying now proves that you either didn't read it or weren't prepared to listen to it. pinky, i respect your beliefs, even though i disagree with them. the least you can do is to respect other people's. i know what i believe, but i am prepared to listen to other people's viewpoints, even if they prove me wrong. it seems to me that you are unprepared to be wrong, as daniel says, and this will make your life very difficult in the future. you ask us to prove things, but you are not prepared to listen to what we say. you have to learn that everyone is entitled to their beliefs, and it is not your place to tell them otherwise. on a more personal note, you are not presenting a very good picture of your religion here, pink. christianity has spent a long time ridding itself of the stereotype of the zealot, who is unprepared to listen, and seeks only to convert others. you are singlehandedly setting back christianity's image hundreds of years. sorry about that, but i have decided that it is my mission to persuade pinky to at least accept that other people have beliefs as well. |
I've found my explanation of the Big Bang theory. It's a little over-simplified, but it covers all of the main points:
The Universe originated as one point, almost infinately small. Something [God, maybe? We don't know for sure.] caused it to expand. In it was lots of pure energy. This began to form into particles [Quarks, Leptons, WIMPs, and various others], through that thing Einstien thought of. At first, they were formed as Particle-Antiparticle pairs, so they instantly annihilated[sp] to repay the energy used to create them. Then, after less than a thousandth of a second, the universe expanded hugely. The huge gaps created pulled the Particle-Antiparticle pairs apart, so they had no need to annihilate[sp]. Free to go their own way, the Quarks began to form into Baryons, such as Protons and Neutrons, and the heavier Leptons broke down, leving only light Leptons such as Electrons and Neutrinos. At first there was one Unified Force, which emcompassed Gravity, Electromagnetism [Light], the Weak Force and the Strong Force. As a result of Expansion, however, the force was split. From that point on, Gravity was carried by Gravitons, Electromagnetism by Photons, the Weak Force [which later caused the Nuclear Fusion in Stars] by Weakons, and the Strong Force [which late held Protons and Neutrons together in the nuclei of atoms] by Gluons. One thing that puzzled scientists for a long time was why the universe today is composed of matter, when matter and antimatter were created in equal amounts. We now know, however, that the X-Bosun decays to form more Matter than Antimatter, which is why there is so little Antimatter left. The Protons, Neutrons, and Electrons began to form into atoms, due to gravitational forces and magnetic attraction. The Neutrinos and WIMPs remained in the background, as Dark Matter. Most of the atoms wer Hydrogen, with some Helium and Lithium. Because of Gravity, the Hydrogen began to clump together, into huge balls of hydrogen, which became very hot, and began to fuse the Hydrogen and Helium to make heavier atoms, releasing a lot of Heat and Light at the same time. I think I can also shed some light on the origin of life on Earth as well. I'm not an expert on this either, but I think I know roughly. Basically, as a result of Nuclear Fusion in stars, there were now lots of elements around. Six of these were Hydrogen, Carbon, Oxygen, Nitrogen, Sulphur, and Phosphorus. The Earth at that time was very stormy, and so it was only a matter of time before lightning struck a small concentration of these elements. This isn't particularly probable, but if you consider the size of the Earth, it probably happened several million times around the world. Where it did, the elements began to combine into compounds, having been given the energy to. Eventually, a Compound called Deoxiribosenucleic Acid was produced. This molecule is self-replecating, and produced a lot of proteins as a side product. The gradually coalesced[sp] into small amoeba-type organisms, and then Evolution did the rest. I cannot be bothered to explain Evolution this late at night, but I'm sure someone will be able to fill you in. I'm not too sure of the facts of the bit about the DNA, so if anyone knows it in a bit more detail, could they tell us, please? |
About evolution:
Why don't you people saying evolution isn't real go and tell your argument to some scientists who study evolution? I'm sure that off the top of their head they'll come up with 100 reasons why your idea that evolution isn't real can't work. Do you study evolution? If so, then I may be persuaded to believe you. But if you're some teenager who just thought up some reason why evolution isn't real, with no professional understanding of the subject, then be prepared to have your whole theory ripped apart when you tell it to someone who DOES know a lot about evolution. I'm sure that your little belief has already been examined and studied and proven wrong several times already. |

oy...this topic has really takin off since the last time i posted in it (did I ever post in it? I dont remember and Im too lazy to check right now...*checks anyway* oh I never did oh well), and quite frankly...I am NOT touching the religion vs evolution debate here!(I do have something to say about it...but I know when my opinion may be too extreme and keep my jaws shut)
Original issue: joke or no joke that was sick! Animal feelings: Yes animals do feel pain like we do! And some animals are self aware (chimps and, recently discovered, dolphins(those are the only two I can think of at the mo)) Meat vs Veggies: Me personnally I am primarily carnivous. I do not like a lot of veggies, in fact I can count how many I do like on my two hands. We are omnivours(spelling) and can survive on either or both. Is it ethical to eat meat? I feel it is, as our ancestors did. But everyone has a choice as to what they what to eat, and I respect that. And I hope everyone else does too (and for the record...I like my steak Medium, yum!) Bible vs Evolution: like I said...I am NOT going there. Thats 'bout all I have to say...and I do agree with Rettick...we should close this topic before things start to get nasty... |
i promised myself i wouldn't reply here again, but i can't let that one go. i'm not saying that it is unethical to eat meat, but you can't judge whether or not a thing is ethical by whether or not our ancestors did it. our ancestors used to burn old women at the stake, accusing them of being witches. our ancestors used to charge on crusades, killing anyone who wasn't christian. our ancestors weren't very nice people, all things considered.
and i don't see how you can judge whether or not you like someone because of what they eat. i am a vegetarian, but i have no problem with people who eat meat, and they have no problem with me. NOW can we please stop it? |

actually, weve known dolphins are self aware for sometime. i saw this thing on tv where this guy made a machine back in the early 60's and he used it to make verbal communication with dolphins. it turned his words into dolphin whistles and dolphins whistles into human speech. i know it sounds weird but thats the truth.

I think most of us have been quite restrained, no one has really insulted anyone yet. It's natural that this kind of discussion would pop up somewhere, and no one has been behaving offensively. Having said that, I'm sorry if I have been a little agressive.
This is how the discussion has evolved: Animal Rights were being discussed when vegetarianism was brought up. Someone made the correct statement that humans were animals. This statement was refuted by someone who backed up their claims with scripture. Others insisted that humans were animals and backed up their claims with facts. I don't know why, but this prompted someone from the literal-bible side to bring evolution into the discussion. So evolution was discussed. :

I know about evolution, hinduism, bigbang and all that stuff but i don't have to believe in them. That would not make any sense if I am a christian and believe in reincarnation and stuff. In the ten commandments, it stated to only believe in God only. It was the first commandment. You seriously don't back up anything with facts neither. Revelations yes, the stars was symbolic but it talks about what is going to happen in the end of the world. Not all of it is symbolic. Like the rapture (who takes away the people who believe in God out of earth and to heaven, leaving to people who don't believe in God, on earth with apocalypse, armaggeddeon, and bugs as big as horses, that eat people, and the dead being judged again. There was a war in Heaven, even when Satan got kicked out of heaven and landed on earth, mated with people and made dinosaurs, and tempted Even to eat the fruit. It's scary. I really don't want to want to be here when the world ends. Not everything of Science or what man said is right. Like in 2000 new year, they said that the world was going to end. Well did it? Nooooooooo. Because the rapture didi not come yet. I'm curious, how can you be an agnostic and christian at the same time?  . They don't go. Your either with God or not the Devil.
