I gotta get back into isaac
I'll just leave this here http://www.oddworldforums.net/attach...1&d=1338298508 |
Congratz dude, you really are somebody... eh
What? I've still got mine. Anyway, first run, NEW THINGS WOT I ENCOUNTERED ON MY JOURNEY. I only got to the depths on account of me trying to take screenshots of moving enemies.
http://img585.imageshack.us/img585/5749/94574057.png No idea what Blood Rooms do. I tried walking on the spikes. http://img525.imageshack.us/img525/6350/64189113.png Catacombs... http://img703.imageshack.us/img703/2479/28163964.png Erm.. a nice collage... http://img542.imageshack.us/img542/3702/sdfgf.png Fortune Tellers... http://img43.imageshack.us/img43/1349/jhghhgj.png Curse rooms - still no idea... http://img210.imageshack.us/img210/9936/dhghhg.png Necropoles... http://img594.imageshack.us/img594/2566/dfsdfdf.png Libraries... http://img515.imageshack.us/img515/167/dffgfhgh.png Rooms with no destructible enemies... http://img27.imageshack.us/img27/9996/ddfghgh.png New bosses. It's interesting. What the hell do Trinkets do? |
Okay, I found out what the spikes do, they give you pickups for health. For some reason it wasn't working before. No idea why, ironically, this time I had wings, so I thought it definitely wouldn't do anything.
http://img98.imageshack.us/img98/3405/99573176.png Also found The Habit, which charges your items as you take damage. I think spider webs might slow you down. Got a pill. The effect? "Puberty". Hopefull it makes you grow every level. I never found out. http://img205.imageshack.us/img205/5011/51593050.png "Curse of Darkness"... What do Curses do? |
I found an Angel Room. It's like the Devil Room, but with an Angel.
Ah! Curses are special rules. "Curse of Darkness" removes your map.
Spider webs do slow you down. This time the Crystal Ball gave me a trinket. And here is a boss called "The Blighted Ovum". Oh dear. http://img841.imageshack.us/img841/7415/37634171.png Got the Holy Water. Description: "Don't spill it" I got hurt, it spilt, and I died before I found out what it did. Probably high-damage AoE. Apart from looking bizarre, this Judas was bizarre to play as. I got explosive poison shots, which was great - I could kill any enemy in one hit, any miniboss in two. But because Judas is so slow, if I was against anything faster than me, the shot would just go straight over their heads as they closed in. the only way to get rid of them was to shoot the point-blank, which killed me by my own blast :( http://img713.imageshack.us/img713/9151/23556931.png That's enough for today, I think. |
Enjoying the expansion quite a lot, though on the first afternoon it was stupidly broken and I ended up with a choc milk/tech 2 combo that killed any boss in 5 seconds flat.
Kinda boring honestly. |
The challenges are fun. I like Meat 4 Evar.
I guess that's the main problem with the DLC, it can be really, really bugged sometimes. And it's already got one patch
Not just DLC, any software. :)
There are some games with less noticeable/annoying bugs though. AO for example
On the other hand, with DLC like that adding that much stuff, the bugs are inevitable |
Yeah, but I'm talking about software launches really, rather than just games. In the days of AO, shit didn't get patched either, wonder how that worked.
Just got this game today. Pretty fun but very challenging - I got to the first level of Catacombs, died, and got frustrated. I wish there was at least a checkpoint between areas.
The game is meant to be hard, you'll get used to it
And perma-death is the entire point. If you could restart every level, it would be easy.
I thought y'all might find this interesting. It's a post-mortem written by the designer of TBoI.
Finally completed the Lord of the Flies challenge. I died fighting Satan (the hoof-stamping bit).
Oh, and http://twinfinite.net/blog/2012/10/0...mper-chompers/ |
This game looks intense and insane!
I can confirm it is both.
I love this game, the sheer unpredictability and randomness make it addictive and incredibly fun. The soundtrack is also wonderful.
I love this game, I've had it for quite a while now but still haven't been able to complete it even once.
Oh wow I just realised I've owned this game since I put money into the latest Humble Bundle!
First boss I faced was "Gemini". Seems a bit tricky at first, but it seems quite fun. I like the randomness of it. It sort of reminds me of Toejam & Earl meets Smash TV. It is a little bit of a gross game, but I can switch my senses off and just pass it off as so over-the-top so that it isn't real. Yay for indie games! Edit: Fought Duke of Flies, also got this weird green parasite thing and got these friendly flies. Got the 'red lips laser mouth' thing as well. It rocks (love the game music too) Yay, rocking it wearing my Mom's Heels. This has to be GOTY for sure. |

So I finally found the time to download WOtL. A very public thankyou to Varrok for keying me up.
I think I must have finished my last run with a Mum kill. My god, I was getting some tough enemies early, which led to me not getting past The Catacombs when combined with my rusty skill and a week of poor sleep. The first boss I encountered was Widow, who is actually quite tough and stressful compared to any of the other basement bosses. I got a stronger coloured variant the first time, too, who spawned blobs that shoot blood rather than spawning spiders. The spiders are exactly as creepy as they should be. They're perfect. I hate them. Those jumping ones are again tougher than other enemies that you can encounter that shallow. A few rocks in bad places can lead to some serious health-loss. I had a fairly good run going, but I lost most of my health to a room full of the new dual-shot flies, one of whom was coloured and dealing 1 heart of damage per hit. The setup of the room mean that I couldn't avoid them. If I had Technology I would have been able to take them out fairly quickly, but this was in the Catacombs 1 and I hadn't been that lucky despite playing Cain. I picked up some trinkets, but I couldn't figure out what most of them did. Red Patch was fun. |
My first version of this game came with the expansion. That might be why I'm having so much trouble clearing it.
Any tips for a noob who just wants to kill his mother? |
Have you just tried to talk to her? Most teenagers want to kill their parents, but they change their minds at the specific point of their lives.
Ah, and about BoI: I 100%'d the basic game with help only from BoI wiki, I'd suggest you to do the same |
That does take some of the fun out of it, though.
It took me forever to get my first mum kill. The game gets harder the more you kill her, so I doubt you're getting the same level of enemy as early on as I am. I still haven't made it past the caves/catacombs yet. The Carrion Queen is really tough, too. So fast. There wasn't much I could do as Judas. I managed to go out in style, at least, by walking on a red poo. |
Yeah, I only really liked using the Wiki to look up items I'm unfamiliar with. I don't want too much guidance, because it'll kind of take out the joy of finally winning.
I'm getting better, though. I can dodge shots much more gracefully and am much more careful with money. Well, for the most part... I accidentally bought Bum Friend because I didn't know what it did. Fuck that guy. |
Soul hearts are invaluable. Look for rocks with an X on theme. I did my first run with either Eve or Magdalene. Unlock some more characters. Isaac is good, but having the starting health and ability of Maggy is fantastic in The Depths. Too many times I've had to rely just on soul hearts as Cain or Judas and lost out just before the end of The Womb.
I have Magdalene. I'll try her on my next run. The extra health is very useful.
I've come to accept the fact that I'll probably never, ever manage to do a no damage run. I absolutely suck at dodging attacks from the spitting flies and spiders. Fuck them, seriously.
With Judas it's pretty much mandatory up to The Caves. I even managed to get through the Depths damage-free once. Admittedly I went through about three rooms between both spawns and bosses, and they were mostly empty, but...
So can we all agree this is one of the hardest games in a long time?
Well, it's random. Sometimes it's easy.
It's been easier, but it never got easy for me. Not yet, at least.
Technology, Book of Revelations, Lord of the Pit, The Mark and various numbers of Cube of Meat make for an easy run.
If you can find them all at once you're freakishly lucky. I got a similar build once minus the book and with the addition of a few flies. It was amazing. |

Haven't played TBOI lately. I beat Mom twice, I think, and that was it. |
