Did I just read someone compare a divine being to a cheesecake?

I get the point don't worry :p

e: maybe god is actually in the form of a cheesecake......

e2: heaven is a cheesecake factory

e3: brb going to fanfiction.net

Are you going to write a fanfiction about the special invisible cheesecake?

I think there's one person on this forum I wouldn't mind debating with again about this topic and that's BM because he has never spoken against me or religion directly he just uses scientific proof to back up his claims.XD

I wouldn't mind having another debate with him either (evan though I know I'll loose, it would still be interesting)

I think it's worth remembering that you have directly spoken against atheism and have, in my opinion, said some really irritating and in some cases ignorant things.
It is also worth remembering that (to my knowledge) all you have used to back up your claims are citations of the Bible, a book written by many different, human people, and so obviously it does not provide any irrefutable evidence for God's existance.

I'm sorry I can't be specific, but I remember there being some sort of argument for religion stating that some things are found beautiful without a reason. It regarded a certain flower, but apparently it's this really sweet looking flower, and it has no evolutionary reason to look so attractive to us. It just does, because God wanted to have us to appreciate the beauty of life.

Does anyone know what I'm talking about?

Oh! Oh! I have a better one...
What about the banana!! It's formed to fit our hands perfectly and it is neatly covered in an easily peelable peel!!!! Like... You just break the top and then peel.
The bananas were made specifically for us. This is proof. God really does care.

metroixer 05-18-2011 04:13 PM

Except monkeys eat bananas too??

then theres always the exact opposite, such as a blow fish were the only Edible bit is near the centre, and it takes an expert chef to cut it out, and what about extreamly ugly things in nature

Right, if God was real he'd have made all animals entirely edible.

not necissarily

Yes necissarily. What about theism don't you get?

LDG519 05-18-2011 08:59 PM

this may sound like a silly question but what is theism

Aha, so god of course created blowfish to make bananas look even better by comparison.

The bananas were intended to be shared by both humans and monkeys but humans stole most of the monkeys bananas :(

STM 05-18-2011 11:20 PM

Can we just agree to disagree, some people believe in God, some people don't, no one will truly know for 100% if God exists until we die.

There, I just saved us 15 pages of argument and tearing of clothes in anger.

Alcar 05-18-2011 11:28 PM

When you die, all brain activity ceases. It's impossible to "know".

STM 05-18-2011 11:49 PM

Or alternatively you go to Heaven/ Hell, so yeh, I suppose in that sense we will either never know or we won't know 'till we die.

Or alternatively we don't go to heaven or hell, but something happens that no one has ever thought about.

Or maybe the soul-harvesters will hunt us and harvest our souls to use for evil purposes... Hm. Maybe I should write a fiction at some point.

STM 05-19-2011 12:02 AM

Ok then or that happens...do you mean soul harvesters from God's Demon because those are scary looking tanks! ^_^

T-nex 05-19-2011 12:23 AM

No Im more thinking of strange people in weird suits, with weird suction devices... They harvest souls for energy-purposes.

Havoc 05-19-2011 12:33 AM

I instantly thought of The Matrix and the harvesters for some reason.

Carry on.

In response to what Scrabtrapman said way earlier about there being no explanation for the cause of the big bang (if there was no time): Supposing the universe is only a few thousand years old and god has been forever, what took him so long to make anything? I imagine an eternity of thinking about absolutley nothing (for if nothing exist what is there to think about) would be completely and utterly boring.

JennyGenesis 05-19-2011 01:46 AM

If God is real and did create the universe, Then where did God come from? Did he create himself?

Dixanadu 05-19-2011 03:32 AM

I asked my religion teacher once, "Could God make a pie so hot he couldn't eat it?"

I was subjected to receive a bad comment.

Ridg3 05-19-2011 06:29 AM

Your religion techer must have been sooo cool.

I will answer your question with another question, where did the first particle to create the big bang come from...energy can't just appear, we know that.

MeechMunchie 05-19-2011 07:29 AM

Surprised no-one at least pitched an answer his question yet. Call yourselves debators?

tl;dr, the first particle is the previous universe squashed up really tiny. There was no 'first' universe, because time is a phenomenon that exists only within universes.

Just on the big belief =/= knowledge thing that keeps resurfacing: You can have misinformed knowledge. If the person is aware of reasons why what he thinks could be wrong, it will be a belief in his eyes. If from the day he was born he has been told something is a fact and given proof, it will be a fact to him, ergo he will know it. Proof can be fabricated, certainly... but if it is presented as a fact, it can be known.

We don't know, and that's the point. No one knows.

MeechMunchie 05-19-2011 08:02 AM

We can make some pretty good guesses based on what we do know, though.

As opposed to religion, which is pretty good guesses based on other pretty good guesses.

STM 05-19-2011 08:06 AM

Don't be stupid religion is based exactly on what we know.

Por ejempo: The shroud of Turin was proved to have covered the face of Jesus two years ago, we now are even more certain he existed and can begin to decide on whether he was truly the son of God or as my friend put it, bipolar.

I hate to be contrary, and I care about this subject much less than ever before in my life, but no they didn't. No they fucking didn't.

Dixanadu 05-19-2011 08:33 AM

Just because he existed, doesn't mean he was the son of God.

He probably thought he was.

MeechMunchie 05-19-2011 08:35 AM

Jesus defenitely existed though. Records and stuff. Messiah or not, I think he was still a pretty cool guy. He stood up for Jews and didn't talk shit. He just happened to also be a nutter. Like Hitler! (Joke)

EDIT: Speedy shit.

Shroud is still fake as hell. Made in the Middle Ages and the imprint is burned into the cloth. Maybe Jesus was really... Ghost Rider.

STM 05-19-2011 08:42 AM

No because DNA proof plus evidence that the shroud was around at least 250 years earlier than when the French nicked it in Hungary was given, confirmed by atheist and jewish archaeologists funnily enough.
