And again they could have been called Chicken McNuggets. Just change the correct bytes and it'll still change the pitch. Naming the bytes just makes them easier to find, it doesn't "add" any functionality but eases use.

Thing is, I like Exoddus alot more than Oddysee. I still love Oddysee but there is just so much more to Exoddus. Only if there were a way to remove the quicksave feature though... xD

Idea - Continue to make the Oddysee one, and when the means come out to make fully new levels in Exoddus, make that one the sequel (I mean when we finally crack the .cam files).

And also, there are many combinations of levels that you could do using the Oddysee editor. I made a variation, and I never really ran out of ideas because there are so many different things that you can do that haven't been done yet. Experiment! ;) |
I haven't been here the whole time, so I've probably missed a lot, but why exactly is it so hard to recompress the AE levels? If you can extract them, couldn't you just use some kind of bogus compression that does nothing but repeatedly encode it as uncompressed blocks or something to that effect?

The problem is re-compressing AE cam files. The only real workaround is to use a DLL proxy with custom code to work around the issue which is an extremely dodgy hack that will likely only work with certain versions of the game.
So it would intercept the function that does the cam loading and check if its an AO cam and then manually copy into the psx emu vram.. which is a lot harder than it sounds :) Edit: Btw NovaMan that isn't a cam header, the cam header is just another file chunk which looks like this: Chunk size - 4 bytes Ref count - 4 bytes Type - 4 bytes (Bits, Anim, Palt .. whatever else) Resource Id - 4 bytes |

Hm... I dunno if you got what I meant.
I don't know the details of Oddworld compression, obviously. But in Lemmings, there's a code which means the data following it is just raw, uncompressed data. One guide suggests, that with disk space not being an issue these days, a user could just repeatedly put that code followed by the entire data uncompressed. Why couldn't something along these lines be done with AE? |
So, for these reasons, BlackVenom should just continue with his Oddysee variation! :)

Secondly, it is not an aimless project. Lots of us will play on it and we will enjoy it, because your Oddysee variation looks so damn good! I've been looking forward to playing it, along with loads of others, for ages. You giving up on it would be like the Soviets giving up on attacking the Nazis when they reached Berlin. Honestly, finish it, upload it here and I swear you will get good feedback. :) |

Also, in that post you are implying that Oddysee is 'like shit' compared to Exoddus, when it certainly isn't 'shit'. It's better than Exoddus if anything, in my opinion (please don't continue and start an argument about which is better; we'd go on forever). Just please, BlackVenom, make the Oddysee variation. You can't say there is nothing more you can do, because there definitely is. Be creative. :) |

Look, The only reason why I don't want to continue it is because it's only a test series of maps, to get a feel for the editor. Nothing serious was to be made from these maps I have currently made.
And my opinion for why I'd prefer exoddus is because I can add more challenges like what novaman said. Greeters, Flying sligs, Slam doors and much much more. If I could remove the quicksave I would and just leave the checkpoints in there. It's just abe's oddysee is actually quite limited to the amount of challenges you can throw at the player. at most it's just sligs, slogs, mines. Not too much of a variety in my opinion. Also, could we stop with the arguments? There's no reason we should be fighting over why I should or shouldn't continue my maps. In the end it's me that makes the choice that changes that fact and there's not much that opinions can do could change that. |
