22 hours and counting. Suck it consoles!

I did the test again and got Cave Johnson.
http://www.thinkwithportals.com/coop.../char_cave.jpg He's kinda funky looking. |
Voice doesn't suit him.
|
can't wait, unfortunately I'm on a console so I'll have to wait, only got portal 1 a week ago, picked it up with the Idea of playing the first few levels and the next thing I new I was listening to glados singing still alive.
|
Yeah... Portal will do that to you. It's addictive for such a simple game.
|
I got the weighted companion cube.
|
I will never understand the hype behind that Cube. It appears in exactly one level, gets used to solve a couple of minor puzzles, gets incinerated, then you move on.
The game spends a hell of a lot more time developing GLaDOS and her relationship with Chell, but NOPE CUBE HURR I LOVE YOUUUU |
He was your companion. And then you had to kill him. That's a drama story right there.
|
BTW, 6 hours until release on Steam. :) |
Omg the bit starting at 1:38 has been stuck in my head for months. I kept wondering what video I saw it in. Thanks for solving my torment!
|
Hah - I can relate to that. No problem.
|
I have my copy on PS3.
I think that the shop may have started selling it earlier that they were supposed to. The official date for console release isn't for another 2 days. Not that I'm complaining. Glados' dialogue is really good so far. I'm yet to see any of the gels, though. |
I have it on Steam and Its fucking amazing.
I've done some of the new Laser beams tests which are very good and i'm also yet to see the gels. Oh and does anyone know that Portal 2 has a Backpack and Hats like in TF2? what next, trade servers!? |
Anyone up for some inter-platform co-op sometime? I'm about to make my Steam account.
EDIT: Steam's telling me that my request failed and to try again later. The thing is that it told me that last time, too. EDIT2: Firefox seems to be the root of the problem, as Chrome allowed me to create my account. http://steamcommunity.com/id/Phylum919 |
Does the console version have split-screen or anything? I'll probably buy it anyway though..
|
Yeah, I heard it has online and split-screen co-op.
|
Sweet.
|
I'm having computer issues right now, but I might be up for co-op when I fix it. I draw people's attention to the OWF Steam group for plan-making needs.
|
Gah, my PC doesn't meet the requirements to play it, but I just can't justify buying it for two systems.
Is it worth getting for the 360? I don't have a PS3. |
I'm getting it for the 360 because my PC can't handle it.
I'd say it's worth it. |
Alright then. I think I'll wait for the price to go down a little, though.
e: Maybe I'll trade in some older games to knock the price down a bit, assuming the games shops near me will have it in stock. |
Damn, I loved the amount of backstory on Aperture. The series of old test chambers was an especially nice touch which I enjoyed playing trough. Also seeing more of the modern day test facility as a whole, with the panels and stuff, was interesting to see.
Playing trough co-op now, which is also a lot of fun! |
By jove this plays shockingly on my machine, which can play any other Source game just fine. Even reducing the settings to their absolute minimum doesn't help. Oh well. Shouldn't complain. It's not like I can play any more in the next week.

Also, the co-op rocks, from start to finish. Can't wait for more (custom) content and stuff. I uploaded about 300 screenshots on my Steam profile, so if you want to see alot of the game in pictures it's pretty much all there. |
So that's it. I completed the SP mode in 9 hours. I was waiting for it for 3 years, and now it's over.
... ...Until the DLC at least, and I haven't done co-op mode yet. :) Mind = Blown. Anyone who enjoys games should experience this game. Instant classic, right there. Well worth the wait, and the hype. (I just wish it wouldn't hold your hand and keep reminding you of the controls all the way through, though - That's a bit patronising) I feel a little sad for completing it in one sitting rather than taking the time to enjoy it, I don't have any other games to look forward to this year (except for Black Mesa perhaps), but I suppose it's not like I speedran it all the way through. Semi-spoilerific: Also now I know why people said the ending was out of place when they had it spoiled for them early by pirates during a leak. It fits in context, but damn... That was weird. But it made me laugh so it's all good. :) |
I'm going to have to either rent it on Gamefly or buy it on the cheap. I can't afford it retail and I can't rent it and complete it before it has to go back. I reeeeeeally want to play this game.
|
I'm pacing myself. I played for 4 hours yesterday and I realised that I wanted to savour this. I played for just over an hour today and I'm planning to do the same tomorrow.
I'm keen to enlist one of my friends to slog through the co-op with. I can't imagine playing through lots of it with any of you because of distance/lag. |
Got tricked into clicking a YouTube link that showed the ending immediately.
Welp. |
I know how you feel. Well, almost. Some asshole spoiled most of the game in some video's comments. And at the end of the post it had "spoiler alert lol"
... |
I heard there's people going around asking people to play co-op with them, then screaming spoilers down the microphone and leaving the game.
Real classy, internet. |
That's why I'm playing single player first, then progressing to co-op with people who aren't fucking cunts.
|
To be honest I don't think there's much to spoil. The active 'plot' isn't insanely thick and the plot twist can be seen coming from a mile away. There's many times more backstory in Portal 2 than actual present day story. Which is good because I tend to like backstory more anyway. I just loved running around in those old worn and plant infested test chambers, even seeing some of the old chambers from Portal 1 now completely destroyed.
|
I've just completed Portal 2 Singleplayer...
Fucking... Epic... ending. It had a really nice atmophere to it that i've never really felt in a game. |
I just finished it.
It was a really good end. I'm a bit disappointed that there was nothing like this in the game (especially the stuff from 1:02). The song was good, too. It wasn't great like Still Alive, but it was still a really nice way to end it. There was no funky radio version of it, though :( I'm a bit disappointed that it's only 7 hours long, but I've heard the co-op is just as long. I'm yet to start that section of the game. |
So, there are two separate campaigns? One for single-player, and one for co-op? Goddamn, I need this game.
|
I'm sure the map modders will recreate these soon - Also there's supposed to be free single-player DLC content out soon, apparently.
I'm playing through the SP campaign again with developer commentary - They had to dumb down some of the more complex puzzles because some of the play testers couldn't get their heads around them. That's the disadvantages of trying to tailor a game for a wide audience. |
I figured that's why some of them were left out. I'd imagine that the crusher puzzles would be more frustrating than anything else.
Some challenge maps couldn't have hurt, though. |
Oh yeah and (POSSIBLE SPOILERS):
I love the humour in this game. :) |
Cave Johnson's voiceovers were the best by far. That's probably my favourite of his.
