Well, you take me wrong. I don't know how to do tutorials, I was meaning about telling you the tutorials that helped me in the past.
I hadn't got a paramite nor a scrab tutorial in the past, and I was able to do this. It's not difficult to do. I made it by box extrude and I cloned one leg three times. Do the base mesh is not the difficult part. I can explain a bit how I did it. If you want I'll post it :) |
:
thanx :D |
Yah! Do post anything that you think could help me/us! Please
|
The tutorials I'll post are all about 3D Max.
This is the most useful tutorial I have ever read: http://www.evermotion.org/tutorials/...trex/index.htm (Thanks to Evermotion) This explains how is the box extrude method and some tips in 3D. Yeah, it's for 3D Max, but I think box extrude exist in other programs. http://www.artejaol.com/Tutorial%20b...ial_brazo.html This one explain how to do an arm with another method, but is useful too. It explains the process at sculpting and texturing in Zbrush, and how to rigging it, animating it and deforming it with muscle system. Great tutorial. http://www.aniquito.com/new/files/td_pelt_mapping.rar This tutorial explains 'Pelt mapping', the technique used to unwrap models. Is useful but I don't use pelt for my models. I use the Zbrush tool 'GUVtiles'. http://www.tutorialized.com/view/tut...Modeling/39186 This one explains the 3D Max interface and more things. http://www.3dyanimacion.com/tutorial...3&tutorialID=7 This tutorial is in Spanish, if you have dudes tell me, but I think is easy to follow. That's a very good tutorial about models like Disney's movies. http://www.3dyanimacion.com/tutorial...3&tutorialID=9 The same, if you have dudes tell me. http://www.3dyanimacion.com/tutorial...&tutorialID=20 http://www.3dyanimacion.com/tutorial...&tutorialID=46 http://www.3dyanimacion.com/tutorial...3&tutorialID=8 I think they're useful to learn about 3D Max. I have read some Zbrush tutorials too, but I didn't learn anything with them. Good luck with them, hope they help you. As I say, if you want to know more tips about 3D Max or Zbrush, you can tell me them. Byee :D:D |
Wow thanks! Do you reckon they will work for blender??
|
Well, don't know, but I think you can do box extrude in Blender too.
But there are Blender tutorials out there too. Don't forget to use Mr. Google :D |
I do, but I get confused after the first thing, I CANNOT MAKE A ROPE!! lol
|
thank you verry much for the tutorials Tidus ;)
I will need them, not now I'm busy atm, but next year probably, then I'll post the things here and at dA :D thanx  |
You're welcome. Great to see more people on 3D. Well, let return to the topic, here's a screen of the last version of the Scrab with the fixed colour.

Very well done. I think a slight tinge of green would be appropriate though, but it's not that important. It's just an idea. How good is the texturing thingy in this program?:D
|
kewl I really like the back ^.^
will you make the muscles at the legs also like the ones at the back or will you leave them that way? |
Uhm.. Well, the muscles at the legs are there, but I'm guessing they must be sharpen... Ok, I'll try to do that and I'll try to put some green :)
|
Getting better and better! Best one yet! Good work tidus!
|
Great Scrab! Love the chest and legs! :D
Are you going to put any teeth? |
:
|
:
:
:
I saw you're going to make a game, and yes, maybe I can help you, but not now, I have too much things to do. |
So what's next for the mighty tidus??
|
:
Hahaha. Well, it's extremely difficult to me to do one car or one humanoid character. I tried to do one character and two cars, but I got bored.. Next? Well, I'll animate the scrab, colour the Paramite and animate it too. And maybe I'll try to animate the Rex. |
:
|
Oh yes, sorry, I was confused with Admiral Zaarin :)
|
:
|
Yay! I'll watching it. It's really interesting.
http://img522.imageshack.us/img522/1...ocumentjd0.jpg The sharpen muscles ^^ (the image it's a bit saturated) |
Tidus
The scrab is great! The colors are very exact to game. It would be good if you add bump-mapping, for example to depict veins, skin texture etc. . Also it seems to me that it's head is somewhat over-sized and upper jaw should be a bit wider. Besides what tecnique are you using for this one? |
It's comparable to a scrab from Munch's Oddysee. Despite it having way more detail, the color scheme is just a bit off... But it looks awesome either way. I still think it needs more green... Of course that might just be me.:D Looking really really good.
|
What technique? I don't know :S
I did it by box extrude in edit poly mode in Max, and here, in Zbrush, I use the tool Inflat to do all details, and a bit of Standard tool. I didn't use any alphas. Only the brush and masks. Oh, yeah, the green, of course.. I forget to add it... Thank you! |

Well... I have done a test with Mental ray over a real image.
I did this about one hour ago, that explains the inexistent shadow over the grass.. It's only a lighting test in 3D Max. It must have more work on Zbrush :) http://img179.imageshack.us/img179/6...erttestqj0.jpg Hope you like it ;) By the way, I'm not the author of the real image (thanks to http://weathersavvy.com). |
cool an update :)
the Scrab fits well to the background :D |
Wow. That is what a 3D model of a scrab in a real environment should look like.
The head is a tad too big though. |
Thanks ^^
Well I've done another test with better results :) It's the high poly version of the scrab, but it didn't take too much time to process. http://fc26.deviantart.com/fs39/f/20...Spinotoror.jpg A Scrab in Sahara desert! :p |
That new version is perfect when it comes to the actaul model. The red could be slightly bolder, and I still can't really see any green.
The only thing you need to do now is texture it a bit better. The basic couloring is done but it could be improved.:D Nice job! |
:
|
Nice *bleeping* model! *honk honk* xD
No no just kidding. :D It looks really awesome! I really like the chest. =P And I'm waiting for it to start dancing. lol Awesome work Tidus! ;) |
What a Scrab!!! Really nice ;) How did you do it?
|
:
lol If you're meaning how I made the scene, easy, I imported the high poly model into 3D Max and I rendered it with Final Gather, Mental Ray and a Daylight System. :) And then in Photoshop I fixed the shadows and the color. :
And yes, the actual texture is unfinished ^^ :
:
|
The model has come out nicely but it looks like after you were done with it it fell into two buckets of paint O.o;.
Put some effort in a decent texture instead of slapping some colors on with a brush. |
That Scrab is looking good.
A quick question; You say you are using Zbrush? How do you export models from Zbrush as OBJ files? Because I can't seem to work it out. |
