I'm reading 2001: A Space Odyssey right now. Anonyman... |
I'm reading 100 Essential Things You Didn't Know You Didn't Know, Evolution for Everyone, The Never Ending Days of Being Dead and The Blind Watchmaker again, all at once.
|
I'm reading The Birth of Tragedy by Friedrich Nietzsche, The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne and a variety of Introducing books from the Icon range including Introducing Hegel, Foucault, Advanced Mathematics, Linguistics, Buddha and Marx.
Am enjoying my stab at omnidisciplinarianism very much so. |
Mathematics is surprisingly fascinating. I feel betrayed by every maths teacher who deceived me into thinking otherwise.
|
I know, it helps that every page in these little Introducing books is practically a work of art.
|
I am reading Almost Like a Whale by Steve Jones. It’s first book I’ve read since the summer. I have to write a book review on it. It will be the first book review I’ve written since before GCSEs. It’s patronizing and too hard at the same time.
|
I'm 10 pages from done with Everything is Illuminated. To be honest I lost interest a long time ago.

I almost wrote "I won't dignify that question with an answer", but I reconsidered since 100 things is a minute sample. It's by the mathematician John D. Barrow, and it covers a wide range of topics, nearly every one is unrelated to any other, except that their explanations or interesting highlights are all mathematical in nature. Also, each of the 100 chapters is headed by a fantastic and sometimes barely relevant quote.
The title isn't entirely accurate. I knew all about the first one. But that's it. ("Why pylons are made of triangles", but it also explained some fascinating properties of polyhedrals). |
Rere(rerere)reading John Dies at the end. 3rd time for the print edition, 6th if you include the original webpage of it.
|
Does he die at the end? Use spoiler tags!
|
No, but I'm making this look long so people who avoid it will probably think "Oh, I guess he dies, but comes BACK! only a long answer like that would explain the size of that spoiler!"
Also, it was kind of a joke title for the first book, The second book is "John and Dave and the fifth wall." and The third is "John and Dave and the temple of X'al'Nu'th'uthu". Second and third aren't in print and only the second was online until recently. |
I remember discovering PWOT quite early on. Good times.
|
Yeah. I don't like the shift to Cracked. Cracked sucks.
|
I'm reading Gotrek and Felix: The first omnibus (a collection of three books) by Nathan Long or William King, i'm not sure which, because they both write books in the series. It's a great story, gotrek is a dwarf slayer, who is forced to seek his doom in a honorable death for an unspeakable crime. Felix is a human poet that was rioting in Altdorf (Capital of the Empire) and was attacked by cavalry. Gotrek saved him and while drunk Felix swore to write an epic poem of the seeking of Gotrek's doom. It's an epic book.

JDATE is still diahrea-inducingly funny when reading it, even at the fourth time. Temple isn't very funny except for the porcupine gun sequences, and I haven't had a chance to work on Fifth Wall. I'll have to search for it.
And yes, Cracked is not good. It is basically just lists of things attempting and coming close, but not quite touching, funny. I only go there to check for David Wong updates, which are the only things that are entertaining. I recommend all of you look for his stuff, and at least read his take on the 9/11 Loose Change conspiracy. |
I'm re-reading to Kill a Mockingbird for some reason. Damn this is a good book. Yet another reason I'd beat up my Stupid Grade 9 self.
|
I am reading "FunHouse" By Richard Laymond at the moment....an extremely odd, and creepy book, yet enjoyable. About when Bums go bad! *noes*
|
the invisible man by ralph ellison, always thought it would be beneficial to read it but i'm having trouble getting into it
oh and kastere to kill a mockingbird is one of my favs i felt the movie with gregory peck did it no justice though, peck made a great ahab! |

|
Yeah, the film is fantastic.
|
I hate to agree, but I agree.
---- @ Used Like, the best book ever. |
in the film the scene where mrs. dubose dies is cut out, infact her entire character is ignored in the movie, the part of the book where atticus explains to jem what real courage is through her character even though she was against everything atticus believed in moved me to tears
|
By the end of that book, I wanted to bang adult Jem. She's just that endearing.
|
Jem was a man.
You are thinking of Scout. In before Team Fortress 2 jokes that I myself will provide. |
This post is to allow Kastere to make TF2 jokes.
|
I still need to start in part 3 of The Dark Tower.
|
:
No one listens to me, though. Nooooooo. |
I have begun reading The Costello Memoirs from the beginning as I had been distracted away from it for a few months.
Alcar... |
You and your far-right nazi-esque political leanings.
I just started and finished in the same day The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman. He's an excellent author and I enjoyed it a lot... but I wish there had been a better motivation for Jack trying to murder Bod's family. It just came across as being a little bit Voldemort in that he caused the prophecy to come true by trying to prevent it. |
i don't like the dark tower series either, in fact i don't like stephen king
h.p. lovecraft is enough to satiate all my horror needs :p |
:
They were kinda interchangeable in my head. |
Oh and also they took out the part where Bob Yule spits in Atticus' face. I love that part because of how he explains to Scout that he wouldn't fight back because he feels sorry for him and is worried about his kids, I know they couldn't include everything in the movie but they removed a lot of scenes that put me in awe of Atticus and how wonderful he was. Now I feel like reading the book again, oh you know what the movie has a great soundtrack!
|
Are you kidding me? I loved the Dark Tower series. The last book kept me up at night after reading what happens to Roland.
|
:
Plus, he writes himself into the books. HE WRITES HIMSELF INTO THE BOOKS! |
:
Fuck you, response by non-compliance. I'm like the Amish, except I won't use words instead of guns/bombs/knives/vehicles/WMD. |
:
Reading From Hell by Alan Moore, I have a constitution of steel when it comes to horror and crime fiction but Dr Gull gives me nightmares D:. |
Read Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand.
I felt my political affinity shifting more right as I read it. Less regulation! Let the geniuses prove themselves! Still a fantastic book. |
My own literary exploits are teaching me a great deal about the evolutionary management of the biological resources involved in the growth of the horns of dung beetles. Absolutely fascinating.

Learning Perl. Otherwise known as the Llama Book.
Seriously, how can you not like a textbook with a Llama on the cover? Or one where the authors tease each other (and Perl's creator) in the footnotes? |
