Xavier 10-13-2006 01:13 AM

Well Sekto was knocked out, not dead :p

Jordan 10-16-2006 08:07 AM

Sorry if this question has been asked... How come flying Sligs weren't in MO? They would've been great for a chase level or something.

Bullet Magnet 10-16-2006 08:23 AM

I expect they were planned to be. There were even slig helicopters that can be seen in the downloads section of Oddworld-Web, but like so much of MO, it was cut so that it could be finished in time to be a release title.

Jordan 10-16-2006 08:34 AM

They cut all the good bits, like Sam and the other queens, the game would have been a lot better.

Bullet Magnet 10-16-2006 08:37 AM

Yes. Let's join the masses and blame Microsoft for that one. And Electronic Arts, for good measure.

Xavier 10-16-2006 09:05 AM

EA has nothing to do with MO...

but yeah, lets blame them too :p

anyway flying sligs in 3D would be way to hard to program or restrain

Arxryl 10-16-2006 01:39 PM

It would have also been hard (gameplay wise) to kill them until you got the mudarchers. Seeing as their isn't any guns or anything Abe can pick up...

Bullet Magnet 10-16-2006 01:43 PM

Presumeably the possession orb would be able to jump that high... though I doubt it would have been used at all if all had gone to plan.

Nate 10-16-2006 05:31 PM

It would have been impossible in a 3d game because the flying sligs would have been able to go anywhere - fly infinitely high. They would have had to come up with some artificial way of restraining you. So they never even planned to put flying sligs into MO.

Feel free to still blame EA though.

Bonedust 10-16-2006 05:56 PM

Is OWI planning a MO director's cut?
If so will it include Roid?

Arxryl 10-16-2006 07:29 PM

I seriously doubt it. It would have been interesting to play as him, but it would have meant they'd need to change the whole game to do so.
They'd need to change some puzzles, the way you resque fuzzles most ofd the time, and possibly the story line.
However much fun it would have been though...

Xavier 10-16-2006 10:52 PM

OWI aren't planning any games at the moment
so definatly not a remake of one of their old games, and especially not the one that was recieved not so good by players and press.

Jordan 10-17-2006 01:18 AM

A MO Director's Cut would be great, with a few cut movies or something, but like Xav said, they would never make it.

Zerox 10-17-2006 05:23 AM

MO Director's Cut would have all the missing features in it that would make it good...maybe even Sea Rexes :P
I'd like to see a 2D MO in the same style as AE. Underwater would also be fairly interesting.
But it ain't never gonna be. How irksome.

Is SW situated in Mudo's, or what? Or where? I think it is in Mudos, but one can't be sure...no recognisable species at all, except maybe Slogs...they're probly imported or something, though.

Wil 10-17-2006 07:46 AM

Stranger’s Wrath takes place in Western Mudos (appropriately enough). Which is a bit confusing when you look at the Oddworld Map, because it appears the Mongo River is actually slightly north of where we last saw Abe and Munch.

Bullet Magnet 10-17-2006 10:23 AM

But we do play much closer to it's source. Or is there another river that runs into that one?

I think it's time to write agian, Max.

Zerox 10-17-2006 10:44 AM

I presume Munch ends up at the Mongo River eventually, because he's got to go to Ma Spa to hacth all those Gabbit eggs, see?

Bullet Magnet 10-17-2006 11:18 AM

Except that he wouldn't be able to until the dam was gone. Though the chronological order of the games is never said, it's just easier to say they are in order.

Wil 10-17-2006 02:28 PM

Stranger’s Wrath ran concurrent with the Quintology. The implication from that phrase is that it takes place during/after Munch’s Oddysee.

Write another set of corrections to the Oddworld Map? I have bigger fish‐flavoured soya to fry. Plus Alf’s still on leave.

Nate 10-17-2006 02:35 PM

Didn't we discuss before SW came out that, given the map, it was likely that the river that Munch starts the story in is not necessarily the Mongo River?

Personally, I thought it was that river given the similarity between the bendy bit at the top of the river and the map of the Mongo Valley on the EA website, but I was voted down.

Wil 10-18-2006 07:13 AM

I’m in favour of them being the same. The relationship between the Mongo River and Gabbits is widely accepted since The Art of Oddworld Inhabitants was released. Plus they look the same.

I think it’s more likely that Western Mudos is a misnomer.

Xavier 10-18-2006 08:15 AM

or north isn't on the top on the oddworld map :p

Arxryl 10-18-2006 01:43 PM

For all we know, north could be called weast in Oddworld.

Wil 10-18-2006 02:22 PM

The compass points on the map are labelled ‘life’ ‘death’ and ‘time’. The obscured one points to what we would call North. Maybe it is indeed Oddworldian West. :p

Slaveless 10-18-2006 05:00 PM

I personally believe OWI said Western, to really imply the Clint Eastwood theme of SW. But yeah, west could be north to Oddworld.

But would this mean if the Sekto Springs Dam could've made a plot for Munch in the could've-been ME? And would this mean that Sekto is also another part time reason why Gabbits are endangered? And would this mean that Sekto could be an enemy in ME? (If there is going to be one)

skillya_glowi 10-18-2006 05:42 PM

Question:

Does anyone know the words (I hesitate to say 'lyrics') to the Munch Remix thing from the Downloads at oddworld.com? The only bits I can catch are "Spiritual action must complete cause? for something-something, the purpose and law of sheer existence, bladibla, and something must do something, as the river flows into the sea". The rest I can't make out...help?

Bullet Magnet 10-18-2006 10:54 PM

That had lyrics?! I didn't even know there were words! I'm gonna have to listen to that again.

Xavier 10-18-2006 10:56 PM

honestly I never tried to listen to the lyrics
but Sekto could easely be one of Munch main enemies, yes :)

Nate 10-19-2006 12:58 AM

It's about two minutes into the remix but I always just thought of it as ambient noise rather than something to listen to.

Wil 10-19-2006 05:17 AM

I’d never heard these lyrics either, but I started listening, and there's some interesting stuff in there (which is quite typical of Bross).

Starting at 2·38/2·39 there begins the phrase “There is no end, there is no beginning, and there is no middle to all of this,” which comes from the Bhagavad Gita: “nantam na madhyam na punas tavadim

Zerox 10-19-2006 09:21 AM

I would expect Sekto to be chewed by something as he swam in the river. Or if he try's to crawl out, hopefully a Scrab or something will be nearby :P
North would be North in Oddworld. The 'north' implies to the 'top' of the planet, which is icy like our northern regions, as it gets less ehat and light from the sun. Same for the South. Hm?

Xavier 10-19-2006 11:13 AM

maybe buddy screwed up and max couldn't correct it :p

Arxryl 10-19-2006 03:11 PM

until I fix my interplanetary flying device, no one will know for sure.
(unless Lorne Lanning came here and told us the correct answer.)

Bonedust 10-19-2006 03:34 PM

While Arxryl works on his device I have another question.
Does Alf have any distinctive physical traites that can be used to tell him apart from any other mud?
Abe has his tattos'(please excuse my spelling)
Big face has the white loin cloth and his big face/mask
and Buddy has an extra fifty pounds.

Cullen Heath 10-19-2006 03:36 PM

He always has his lisp... but Physical, isn't his Fez a bit different from other Muds'?

Arxryl 10-19-2006 03:58 PM

I'm not too sure. probably. Or maybe you could tell him from everyone else bvy the way he acts or stands. I don't know...

Maybe max can find out when he goes to Emeryville.

Xavier 10-21-2006 02:23 AM

well I couldn't tell he was the last mud in the desert with abe (AE intro) and he was the one who pushed abe in the big well (MO) so I guess there's no real way to see if it's realy him or not

Arxryl 10-21-2006 06:12 AM

The simple way of doing it would be to have a sign hang around his neck that says "I'm Alf."
then we would all be happy! Escept for alf, who would get pretty upset with having a sign hang arond his neck, constantly getting in his way.
Or maybe they all have their names on their loin cloths... I wouldn't be the one to check, but still... there must be some way to tell if they are different or not.

A question I have had for about five minutes is, what did Abe do after MO? I mean, the last we see of him it that he is sitting on the bow of the ship when the Vyykers lab blows up...

Nate 10-21-2006 07:14 AM

Abe went on holiday some time before Alf did. Best guess is that he's now sitting on a beach somewhere sipping a tequila.
