I have just been thinking about Aslik. Does he smoke or not?
|
Yup , he has a holder , trust me , I discovered oddworld through Aslik , and have devoted all my " oddworld time " to learn about him and his ways FOR I AM THE ASLIK MASTER!! ( tah dahhhh! )
|
So, lets say you just happend to type in Google images: Alsick?
And you found out about a game he's in? And you bought it? You're not a true oddworld fan. *Pulls thumbs down* |
I want to know something. *where have all the gabbits gone?* in munch's oddysee. I have that the Glukkons smoke them in their cigars. Is this correct? I can remember where I heard it from.
|
Gabbits are fished from the oceans for a number of reasons. Their lungs just happen to make perfect replacements for Glukkons needing a lung transplant, and that's where the cigars come in, because Glukkons need a lot of lung transplants. In addition, their waterproof skin is used to make luggage items, their meat (presumably) is used in protein shakes.
In addition, their eggs are harvested because, raw, they are considered a delicacy, called Gabbiar. Obviously, all those eggs are unable to hatch. |

It's not really a cigar, but more of a cigarette in a cigarette holder.
|
Hello!
On the Oddworld Bonus DVD, in the Stranger's Wrath "Sneak Peak", is it Lorne who is playing and speaking to us, or another Inhabitant? For Max: Max, earlier, you said that "The Eggs, of course, cannot be hatched".....................................................WHAT?! Then how can Munch hatch all 150 baby Gabbits, if Gabbiar Eggs cannot be hatched? Maybe I just misunderstood you. |
I was waiting for someone to ask that from the moment I read that sentence.
They can't be hatched on their own because they have not yet been fertilised. Munch has to spawn with them and then they will be able to hatch. |
It took me ten minutes to find what post you were talking about. :p
Obviously, Gabbiar don't hatch because they get eaten. That's simply what I meant. The fertilisation of the eggs… I don't recall any official indication of that, only fan banter. It does make you wonder what rôle Munch's mum was going to have in the game. |
Munch's mum? I don't think she was meant to appear.
I just thought Munch would travel up to Ma'Spa, jump in a pool and get funky (assuming, of course, that he can find a can-opener). |
Maybe she wasn't. Paul O'Connor mentioned her. Doesn't speak for much, really.
|
I figured he was referring to the fact that OWI always designed characters as having a lifecycle, as having come from a mother.
|
What exactly is Rumour Kontrol?
I'd imagine (with no prior knowledge except it's name) that it has the same role as the Ministry of Truth in the 1984 novel, and at some point I probably knew, but it's bugging me now. |
I think it's the lid on the Free Press in the Magog nation. Either that or some kind of central intelligence agency. Sorry if I basically paraphrased your theory, I haven't read 1984 yet.
|
I always figured it was just a humourous name for a TV show.
|
Without having read Nineteen Eighty-Four, I gather it's just an organisation that determines what can be said by the media, as everyone else has pretty much concured. Perhaps in the undisclosed Oddworld mythos it has had a certain involvement with the mysterious disappearance of the F.U.D. Network.
I know Nepharski has written some jolly spunky stuff about Rumour Kontrol down in Fan Corner. |
I'm just wondering. Does anyone know how old the Weirdos are?
|
I always imagined that they were the founders of Mudanchee, Mudomo and some other place, one Weirdo to each. So i'd guess they're hundreds of years old, maybe thousands if the Mudokon race has been around that long.
And speaking of FUD news, I've always been puzzled about it. It always has Mudokons reporting, yet why would Mudokons report for Industrials. Surely that'd be the Sligs' job? (Sorry if I've missed any more detials about it that I should know, I just can't really remember ever finding much out about it) Oh and I just noticed, Oddworld Encyclopaedia opens in 4 hours! But Max, you've put your sig as 'Oddworld Library', which is already up. |
I imagine that Fud started out as a tool used by the Glukkons to quell any risings form the Mudokons by having a mudokon report to put the slaves on the same level with Fud. But they started getting more liberal and was shut down when the Necrum scandal.
|
It's The Oddworld Library's grand opening, now that all four sections will be open. I've considered it to be in a Beta stage until now.
|
Check out The Art of OWI. There's a picture near the end of the MO section with scetches of an Octigi, a Glocktigi, some other similar thing, a Glukkon and Sekto. I think they may have been originally designed for Munch's Oddysee. The amount of stuff cut out of that one...
|
Wait a minute!
I replied to the thread about Sekto and his parasitic nature. How did I get here? |
Please don't double post.
And could you possibly restate your question on Sekto for us? |
Sorry
I haven't used forums before. There was a thread about Sekto. I posted on it, but came up here, a completely different one. Perhaps my connection is playing up (its dial-up) or maybe the thread went to Necrum. I apologise for the whole ordeal and return to the bog from which I came. I am but a lowly slurg, and you, a Big Cheese! |
I have another question. This may be already answered, but when glukkons were supporters of the mudokons, how did they help the muds? They can't really use their arms, so did they once have mystical powers like mudokons? Or did they controlled sligs?
|
I don't know about supporters, but they lived peacefully alongside one another.
As for their bodies, there is a popular idea that the accident that nearly wiped out their race is responsible for the malformed body they have today, but actually I don't remember that ever coming from an initial source. The first place I saw it was on an ancient fan site. |
Oh, I know waht my problem was. I was looking at the wrong page. I'm sorry, were you discussing something?
Malformed body? Hell no, the Glukkon physiology is perfectly formed. They are clearly evolved from sprinting creatures. Those arms look like they would be good runners. The legs are vestigal, for whatever reason. It all went downhill once their "intelligence" appeared. |
Hello, can somebody please tell me what this is? It looks like some kind of script for Munch's Oddysee that was never used.
Also, please answer my question about who is the voice in the Oddworld DVD. |
That's not a real script used by OWI, it's part of a fan based effort: http://www.oddworldforums.net/showpo...&postcount=114
Alcar... |
Ahh, okay Thanks Alcar!
Do you know who was the man in the Oddworld DVD whom was playing Stranger's Wrath and speaking to us is? Is it Lorne? Also, does anybody have an idea on what the Shaman's real name is? As Max said, he might have abondoned his real name for his job as being a Guide, but that's not a fact. I think he still has a name. |
it's lorne that's comenting most of the trailers and things like that ;)
|
Here's one for ya.
In SW, Castaraider says "it's a God damn steef!" In Oddworld linguo shouldn't that be "Odd damn steef"? Am I being pedantic about this? |
there are gods on oddworld... the shrykull is a half god ;)
