Filenames are not always correct. And the levels are very Stranger-esque. Like Xavier has pointed out, don't jump on people's backs. Explain it in a non-sarcastic, and informative manner. People respect you more that way.
As for the images, I really like seeing the way they piece together their levels. I would have really enjoyed if more Designer Diaries had been completed by Raymond Swanland, we would of had more insight into the game's design phase. Alcar... |

2) probably because both games are based on the same engine |

I think people made a big deal over a simple mistake, and members shouldn't be penalised or put-down because of them. I mean, it's such a small thing :| Alcar... |
Hmmm... So what have we concluded? All that's FACT thusfar is that Oddworld is moving and will continue to do video games while also branching out to other mediums. Still... Am I missing anything?
|
they wont continue to do videogames themselves
|
Ouch. I must've missed that. Where did you read that? Or is it presumption?
|
It's the main thing said in the GameSpy press release. OWI aren't producing games themselves, but they're retaining a small creative team presumably to come up with plots, characterisation and scripts - hopefully game design, too, but there's no word from the game designers about whether they were fired like the programmers.
|
I'm sure that the basic gameplay concepts and activities will still be decided by the Inhabitants. For example, if the first out-sourced game were an Abe game, Lorne and co. would be sure that things like GameSpeak remained intact. I doubt they'll invent the characters and then let the third-party developers have free reign on the gameplay; Lanning's far too much a control freak for that!

As long as OWI does storyline and creatures/characters, I'll be fine.
|
I think that you can safely say that the contracted companies will only be doing the real-time programming aspect of the gameplay. Overall design would be held by OWI. It's quite common in Software Engineering to contract out the hard work to cheap labor in India.
That said, we don't know yet whether level design would be kept internal or done by the RT teams. ++The contractors would probably be doing the CG as well but that's another matter. |
I think OWI can do some CG themselves,
didn't they say they have a powerfull tool to make awesome CG? |
Yeah, I think Lorne said that with the program they used to make the CG in Stranger, they could make a whole film with it.
|
No, he said in his gamespot interview that it could make TV-quality CG but not film quality. It's the difference between the pre-rendered and realtime cut-scenes in Stranger.
|
oh I see that's a huge difference.
I guess the movie wasn't planed to be done by owi themselves anyway |
