If it was possible, it would be much easier to include a spell check option in v bulletin.

Does anyone know if that is possible?
-oddguy:fuzcool: |
Death, if you don't like it here anymore, why not just leave instead of telling us how much better your other forum is and how you don't like it here. We are a small forum. I smod at a large forum as well, and the two kinds of forums are totally different. I like the large forum, but I also like the small forum we have here. I don't know if I want to see this place turn into a large forum to be honest. It's a lot easier to keep up with, than a place that has 20 pages of new posts per day.
Continuing on ... not all n00bies are the spammng kind though. Look at someone like Lulu_Fund who is a relatively new member. She hasn't spammed once and always contributes to the topics she posts in. It doesn't matter where you go, you'll aways get the spamming, don't know the internet n00bies. And the larger the place is, the more of them you get. As for the spell check, Peter could probably say more about that. But I have "seen" a spell check option in vbulletin, but I also heard you have to pay for it (not sure if that's true though). Abe Babe... |

-oddguy:fuzcool: The banner speaks to you. Listen to it's wisdom. |
Abe Babe, I will not be leaving. I will be not making posts in any new threads except for after the Oddlympics has started.
Personally I don't think that this forum is making as much've an effort to be a nice community as it could be. The other forum that I am so impressed with, is much more member freindly, and the whole experience actually makes you feel like their concern is YOU the user, not how damn much you spam. They even have an "Adopt a newbie" scheme for goshs sakes! This is where more experienced users "adopt" a new user to teach him/her the way things work. And instead of having arrogant, cocky and rude moderators that close a thread at the drop of a hat because it is mildly offensive, they have very polite and VERY considerate mods who are helpful and freindly, and follow the system by the book. In fact, I got into a bit of a misunderstanding with one of the mods there, where I got a warning for a joke. I forgot to put an emoticon at the end of the joke, to denote it's non-seriousness, and it came across in the wrong way. There was a very brief discussion which followed in which both parties very politely swapped apologies. At the end of the argument, both I and the moderator found freinds in one another! If the above had happened in this forum, there would've been a massive flame war about it and both the moderators and the person who started it, along with offened (at both sides) users would be really flared up, throwing names, accusations and abuse at each other. At the other forum I post on, I get respect. Here I just get nothing but thoughtless remarks, disrespect and a general non consideration for my feelings and views. Also, here complaints are taken with a "how dare you say that" attitude, instead of a polite "how can we make this better?" attitude. It's like if you have something great to say, don't hesitate to let people know what it is, but hey, if you have something critical to say, you just keep those thoughts to yourself son. Instead of telling me that my complaints are wrong, ask me what you can do to fix the problem. Or at least invite me to address it in the FS&H section. DISCLAIMER: Some of the above may not actually be the case, and if not, are examples or suggestions. Take none of the above as an insulting slur, but instead an honest expression of my opinions - Not because I am ordering you what to do, but because this is how I meant for you to take it. Thanks |
:
I'm sorry, that was just so Brady Bunch. |
See? All you people are capable of is laughing at one another. It's just childish.
So, nice little community my ass. The more you are assholes, the more you prove me right. |
Yes. Because laughing is immoral.
|
No, because laughing AT people is immoral.
|
We actually average 100 - 300 posts per day, but that doesn't matter. We've always been a small community, and that's the way we like it. We do have a diverse range of members, but the general mentality in regards to what we find suitable are the same.
About the spell checker. Abe Babe was correct in stating that it costs money. It costs a lot of money, and if I recall correctly, it costs a lot of money per month, and it is in US dollars! If people took the time to learn the English language properly, then such a thing wouldn't need to be suggested :p The forums will remain open. Honestly people, if you actually believed me even after I had specifically inserted the smilie face to show I was kidding, then... Jesus... Alcar... |
:
Not everyone is quite as fluent, or ever will be as fluent, as you Alcar. I may be as good as any other English speaker, but some people aren't able to get around their language barrier. So I for one think that Mods should look out for our dyslexics a bit more. Perhaps have Abe16's posts "translated" wherever possible by a mod or admin. I think this would reduce confusion and allow Abe16 to make a more effective contribution. |
:
As for atusiya's spelling, or Abe16's spelling, that is understandable. I have nothing against them, and I understand why their English may not be up to the level that mine is. I wasn't actually thinking of either of those two when making the joke, either. I for one am extremely glad atusiya and his whole family take the effort to visit here, as I know it can sometimes be a strain on them. I didn't accuse anyone, either. If people take offence to what I said, by no means should you. If I wanted to offend you, I'd do it to your face. Alcar... |
I didn't take any offense to it at all.
And I understand that it was a joke, but it was really not funny at all. It was actually quite inconsiderate. (sp?) Either way, it wasn't needed. We are either having a serious discussion about this, or having a joke about it. I don't think you can light heartedly discuss serious issues that sometimes cause fights to be honest. |
There is no serious issue. We can not be held responsible for a persons level of spelling and punctuation. Employing a helper to modify each post and thread to correct spelling errors would both be too time consuming, and inevitably become extremely boring and repetitive.
The other solution, by which we sign up to this spell checker is not financially achievable. Abe Babe is the sole provider of our vBulletin, my petty weekly pocket money wouldn't come close to being able to afford it. I don't think it's fair to Abe Babe that we even consider a spell checker that costs money. Alcar... |
What the hell? Stop changing your damn mind and tell us if you are Russian or English. I know, but you should really stop screwing up your story.
|

-oddguy:fuzcool: |
Or, if you are using the AOL browser, you can use the spell checker in the New Document thing or in the email.
|

-oddguy:fuzcool: |
:
or some shit like that.... :p |
AOL is a far superior browser to IE. When I get a new internet service provider I will still use the AOL browser to do stuff.
And I am Russian by the way, I just wasn't really sure you would think I was cool if I said I was Russian. But I just don't care about those sort of things these days. And I live in Russia too. I wish I could say I live in a place less generic than I do, but I don't. Unfortunately Moscow isn't exactly an "original" destination, but it's THE place to be. |
:
Anyways you sure have good english for a Russian, can i ask you a question about your country? Which city belonging to Russia changed its name because of your dictator?:p |
AOL is cool, but it moves way to slow on my comp, so I use IE.
-oddguy:fuzcool: |
:
It was changed (I beleive) because it carried the name of Stalin. Hitler wanted to take it but the Russian troops prevailed. Many thousands of lives were lost there, so it's sad to think about. This might not quite be the right one, because you have worded your question strange, but I beleive this was the answer you were looking for. |
AOL is evil and is full of advertising!!!
In some ways I agree with you Death ... about the un-friendly thing. I always get a different feel here from when I am at the other forum I smod at. It's not that the people here aren't great, as you are ... but it's just that I feel that at times the "freindliness" lacks here. Maybe it's that Oddworld attracts a different type of person than a FF based forum does. Like a more sarcastic person. As an example, I'd never post my cosplay pics here, cause I feel I'd be laughed at ... but on another forum I would get compliments. I don't know... it just always seems to have been this way. But on the other hand you can't force people to be "nice" all the time, and I believe it's wrong to punish someone for just being themselves. I would welcome any thoughts and ideas that you wish to put forth. :) Abe Babe... |
This forum feels more like a catwalk than a forum sometimes. People here are just keeping up appearances, and would rather look hard, rude and "cool" than be a nice person.
I totally agree with you on the part about cosplay. For instance when Reese Charles offered to show everyone how he looks, he just got ridiculed, now I have to say, that is a pretty crap reward for taking the time to build up the courage that it must've taken to put a photo like that on here. I think he said somewhere that he doesn't always look like that, and his "alienist" style was like a partying thing. Even after saying this, he was just told that he was trying to get out of it and avoid being laughed at. I only have vague memories of it, but I think that's how it went. From what I can see, (I am going to analise now) there was a constant battle going on in his head. He couldn't decide whether to stay and put up with the flak, so that he could stay with his freinds here, or whether he should just leave and move on. He was prioritising his freinds over himself, and was prepared to stay that extra bit longer for his freinds, and put up with the abuse as long as possible. Now I think what he did was quite honorable, but that's not why I mentioned it. The reason I mentioned it was because it is a perfect example of what is wrong with this forum. Every time I tried to apologise for getting stuff wrong here, I got stones thrown at me for it, yet every time I just refused to apologise for getting stuff wrong here, I get stones thrown at me for it. I can't apologise because it's a "fiendish ploy to avoid banning", and I can't refrain from apologising because that's "downright cowardly and inconsiderate". There are a certain bunch of members here who have a serious problem with the above. They won't accept apologies, and would rather rub salt into an open wound by hurling abuse in the actual apology thread. All of us know who these dickheads are, and they are a cancer on everyones enjoyment. So there's your problem, and it's solution is banning. There will always be some bad people, but that doesn't mean that we have to put up with them. |

:
EG: Guy joins a forum, 1 day later he starts causing all these arguements and challenge everyone. 3 days later he apologise. :
:
YES WE DO HAVE TO PUT UP WITH THEM, they have as much right as you staying on the forum. What if someone hates you and bans you? you dont feel good eh? |
:
|
You see, the strange thing is, that whenever someone says something like "These people know who they are" the people in question always come along saying something like "thats probably me your talking about".
And they are always right, because I am right when I say "These people know who they are". They know what they are doing, and they do what they do knowingly, with the hope that it will cause trouble. Which is why it needs to stop. Personally I couldn't give a shit for you, what happens in these forums doesn't even concern me. All I care about here is the Oddlympics. But I feel sorry for the people that have to put up with your crap. |
