Enjoy your infraction. |
The revolution must be a democracy, Comrade Nate, or else you'll end up like Secretariat Alcar.
In all seriousness, the most important first point of action is to get Alcar's response. If he refuses to hand over the keys then he'll push us into making a new forum. |
Oh no please don't infract me! Whatever will I do on this forum now I have been tainted by an infraction? :'(
|
My reputation is in tatters!
|
I think it's all fine and well cracking down on shit-posting once we have enough people posting but let's pick our battles right now? There's no harm in warning someone before just infracting them. Even Hobo.
|
Yeah, let's focus on infracting Alcar
|
:
Which leads me to: Hobo you are out for posting shit while double posting. See ya in a couple of weeks. |
Holy shit, this is the first time this year when he's made more than one post at the time, and you just had to stop this.
I doubt I'll ever live long enough to see him again on OWF Farewell, Hobo. |
Personally, I think the most pragmatic solution would be to liaise with Oddworld Inhabitants and work toward creating an official forum. It's the only feasible solution, as far as I can see it. At the moment, we're essentially hanging out in a loft that used to be frequently visited and well maintained, but has since (for the most part) degraded into a derogatory circle jerk, and the only reason we're still allowed to come is because someone else is paying the rent.
EDIT: Please ignore that unintended pun. |
It's been discussed in this very topic that we're unwilling to make OWF an official OWI forum, because our right to freedom of speech might be violated that way
|
I know. And maybe that's a good thing.
|
I kind of agree with kjjcarpenter here, I'm not sure what a constant flow of dick jokes can add to a discussion about the Oddworld universe.
|
"Dick jokes" as in "jokes about dicks" or "jokes while being a dick"?
In both cases, you'd be surprized. |
How so? Please enlighten me.
|
90% of my repuation does not come from being a nice, helpful person.
Furthermore: Nearly all, *if* not all, comedy is based on some sort of misery. There's no joke that wouldn't insult anybody. Before I joined OWF I was a member of forums with stricter rules. Let's say it wasn't very fun. the remaining 10% comes from that abe comic |

You're kinda proving my point here. Two mods are enough to handle the only troll we've had on the forum in months.
|
Fuck you Havoc for reporting a post in this thread
Also Christ I'm still a mod. We must be dead. |
We are dead. This is purgatory.
And Peter is the devil, obviously. |
It's a Christmas miracle, WoF is back!
|
Oh no! He's gonna negrep me again for being on-topic!
|
:
Speaking of Christmas miracles, Peter actually responded to my message and seems willing to help out in turning this place around if we can sort out a few technical hurdles. Should know more after the holidays. Merry Christmas everyone! |
I took on one iota of Havoc's advice and disabled new member moderation. There may be a small increase in spam as a result. If you see spam, please do not reply. Just use the report button to bring it to my attention ASAP.
|
So, any update on how things are moving? Havoc, you said Peter got back to you?
|
I had a chat with Peter about what to do with this place. Basically the three things holding back an upgrade are one, we'd lose the custom themes that we've all grown accustomed to. We did find some new themes that can be customized to acceptable standards, but it wouldn't ever 'be the same' as it were. But IMO that's the price of modernization and Peter agrees that some of the themes have potential.
Secondly, Peter absolutely positively wants to keep the blogs. I've looked into that as well and there are ways to archive the old blog posts as threads and there are plugins that can take over the blogging functions for Xenforo (if we go down that route). It's going to take some trial and error to see if the migration can be done properly though. And thirdly, of course there's the issue of finance. A new software license costs money, a proper theme costs money, the blogging plugin costs money. All one time investments but a sizable amount non the less. Peter is currently on holiday though and will return somewhere early January, so there will probably be more details then. |
Does he really mean keep the blogs as in transferring all existing blog entries over to a new site, or just keeping the blog functionality. Because shit, I wouldn't not care one tiny bit if all of my blogs fell off the face of the earth.
|
:
Also, to not be completely off-topic, I'm glad Peter responded and there are actually ways to make it work. Modern OWF, here we come (assuming we can afford it)! |
SHIT NO WRONG THREAD REMOVE THIS POST
|
There was no intentional double neg.
I want my blog to die in a fire. |
