I like the first one, second was pretty fun but I didn't play either very extensively. Mass Effect 3 looks like a humungous fucking turd, written by a bunch of impotent simpletons for the most obnoxious and stupid branch of the fandom possible.

I'm planning on getting a copy of Space Marine for the PS3 tomorrow or Friday. Does anyone else have it? Want to play some online?

sheridanm962 02-15-2012 08:50 PM

I'm just too addicted to Happy Wheels, some people call it old but it's completely fucking new to me :p

Dynamithix 02-18-2012 12:54 PM

I made two new characters in Dark Souls and I've been playing with them rather than using my main character. I made a female cleric and a male thief.

I also booted up Black Ops to play few rounds of the zombie mode with my friends. It's still pretty fun.

Jordan 02-18-2012 01:27 PM

I've just finished playing a game called NightSky. It's the biggest casual game you could ever play, but it's so pretty and so relaxing.

Crashpunk 02-18-2012 01:32 PM

Played a bit of Killing Floor today. It's really fun trying to survive all the waves, I often fail because it is so hard but nevertheless it's still fun.

dripik 02-19-2012 12:12 AM

I also played Killing Floor. The squads I've been in so far are surprisingly well coordinated - I guess the difficulty of the game requires you to stick together as much as possible. I also like the selection of maps available, be it a dark farmland, an apocalyptic forest or a sunlit mountain area.

Dynamithix 02-19-2012 01:24 AM

Oh, I forgot to mention that I found Max Payne (the first one) in a flea market for 2€ so I started playing it for the first time today. It seems pretty good even though the controls are a bit clunky. Max Payne's face is hilarious every time I see it, hah.

Strike Witch 02-19-2012 02:37 AM

I got Catherine and Soul Calibur 5. SCV is fun, but damned if Catherine isn't the most fucking fantastic game I've ever played. I'm up to the fifth floor and it's been one hell of a crazy ride.

Also a plot which is actually mature instead of mature being a buzzword for gun fetishes and gratuitous violence, wow.

Dynamithix 02-19-2012 02:44 AM

As strange as this might sound, I'm really interested in Catherine. How is the gameplay in it? Is it all climbing and moving blocks or is there something else? I know everyone plays it for the story, but I'd like to know how the game plays out before I *maybe* buy it.

MeechMunchie 02-19-2012 03:52 AM

Yeah, I heard the gameplay was terrible - lots of screwy camera angles and no checkpoints. Also that it had an Idiot Plot.

I'm not saying SW is wrong, this is just what I heard.

STM 02-19-2012 06:13 AM

Running through a few skirmishes in Soulstorm again, sometimes I prefer the larger/ simpler combat of the old DoW series compared to anything after DoW II. Gotta love fielding a 150 man army and 10 tanks. While the four other computers are doing the same (unless you've got orks fielding about 300) all the while my laptop is running this at a fantastic frame rate.

Mac Sirloin 02-19-2012 07:14 AM

I'm playing the new Twisted Metal game. Here, listen to this. It's important.

Right then. Twisted Metal. What is there to say, really? It's 100% certifiable excellentry. I mean, it was made by Santa Monica Studio, who are those dumb turds who made God Of War. Like GoW, it's extremely fun, but anything story-related was clearly written by a 12 year old. It is absolutely nonstop dumb fun. It tries really hard to be taken seriously (For example: Sweet Tooth no longer wishes to have all the candy any more, now he's a serial killer looking for his daughter so he can kill her??????) The controls take precisely 5 minutes to get used to and work fuckin' amazingly for combat and racing. The variety of cars is great. I mean, there's genuine variety in it and every car plays a little differently. The Rubber Banding (enemy cars sticking nearby for races/combat) is well measured and keeps combat from being too busy. I honestly can't recommend it enough. If you like good, solid fun pick up Twisted Metal. It's the gaming equivalent to cheese bread. It does everything it needs to plus you get some fucking cheese.

The only thing I'd change is a music selector. I want to listen to Dragula and nothing butt, but the music is randomly chosen each level and the only alternative is using any music I have saved on the PS3, which is none.

Skyrim is also excellent, but you already know that. After moving past my cynicism regarding its popularity I realized that Bethesda just did a damn good job. Really, Skyrim's just an A+.

It's two games, basically. One side is real life, trying to get Vincent to talk to people about how to solve the cheating and decide to move forward with his pregnant girlfriend, the other side is crazy nightmarish block puzzles. The puzzles are pretty tricky, but they've got that frantic ohgodohgod I'm going to die feeling to them. I guess it can be frustrating if you get stuck, but I just keep at it a couple of times, and it's very rewarding when you get past a tough spot. And there are checkpoints, and a camera.

Hell, there's even a Very Easy mode if you hold down a button before selecting Easy difficulty if you get stuck.

Mr. Bungle 02-19-2012 03:15 PM

Been playing through Diablo II again. Never gets old.

Nate 02-19-2012 04:29 PM

Just finished Ico. Aside from some minor quibbles, it's like Fumito Ueda reached in to my brain and moulded the perfect game for me. Puzzles, exploration, beautiful scenery and combat that's really only there to add a little tension, but is simple enough that I can beat it in my ham-fisted sort of way.

And here are my quibbles: I really didn't like the character of Ico. He just comes across as boorish and impatient and it seems like he ignores the fact that Yorda finds many things difficult. It's incredibly difficult to control walking speed, so when I was holding hands with Yorda he would end up dragging her along. When you press and hold the 'call' button, rather than shouting out once and waiting for her to catch up, Ico shouts out repeatedly and rudely. His controls aren't great, so that if I was anywhere near the edge of a drop, I'd often find myself running along and then suddenly stopping and teetering on the edge. And then, if I didn't correct immediately, he'd drop down and hang by his hands. It really breaks the flow of the platforming.

The HD-ification isn't great. I didn't mind most of the time, given that the landscapes are mostly buildings and stone, but the water and particle effects were really crude.

But, all that said, it's a great game and I'd definitely recommend it.

Dynamithix 02-20-2012 12:46 AM

Have you played Shadow of The Colossus, Nate?

Nate 02-20-2012 01:08 AM

Not yet. It's next on my list.

OANST 02-20-2012 07:00 AM

If you dislike Ico's treatment of Yorda just wait until you see Wander's treatment of Agro.

Crashpunk 02-20-2012 07:25 AM

Or Wander's treatment to innocent lizards.

OANST 02-20-2012 07:46 AM

Or Wander's treatment of the Colossi.

Crashpunk 02-20-2012 07:58 AM

Yeah that one is a bit more obvious.

MeechMunchie 02-20-2012 10:18 AM

Wander... Man, what a dick.

Dynamithix 02-21-2012 02:20 AM

SSX Demo is out.

I'm off to play it for the rest of the day, see ya.

AlexFili 02-21-2012 08:57 AM

At the moment I've been finishing the Mass Effect 2 loyalty missions. It just seems like a really well made game with great plot and good action sequences. I love the way that battles just happen spontaneously and you really feel the tension and atmosphere change as soon as a battle happens. It's a really good transition from the tranquil observation of alien worlds into the real-time battles.

I love several things such as using different skills, choosing the appropriate dialogue and experimenting with different teams and weapons.

I've also been playing the Mass Effect 3 Demo. Here's some gameplay:

OANST 02-21-2012 09:31 AM

I wasn't impressed by the Mass Effect 3 demo, but I assume that's because I wasn't playing with the parts of the Mass Effect games that I actually like.

Dynamithix 02-21-2012 09:38 AM

I thought the demo lacked pretty much everything I liked about the first one. I didn't even really like the second one to be honest and looks like the third one's even more action based.

Also, Alex, nice video, just a bit laggy at parts. I also like your voice.

JennyGenesis 02-21-2012 02:54 PM

I beat Rayman Origins today, I feel so proud!

I found this game to be stupidly difficult as well so I can't see myself doing a second playthrough.

Also beat Carmageddon today, even unlocking The Suppressor on 6. Blood On The Rooftops.

Carmageddon

I've been fucking playing Twisted fucking Metal. Having a pretty fucking good time overall, though there's fucking something in that fucking game that just fucking gets to me. I'm not fucking sure what it fucking is, but it's somewhere between the dumb fucking story, which is not fucking acceptably fucking dumb, like fucking Divinity II, but rather that fucking purposeful and lazy fucking dumb writing that clearly illustrates the fucking writers really fucking hated being bullied. Also, there's no fucking single player Deathmatch that isn't limited to one fucking life, which is fucking garbage in my mouth, every fucking time I remember it.

?

I wanna play the new Twisted Metal, but after watching quite a few gameplay videos, I'm not all that impressed really, it just seems to different and even on it's own the game still looks rather cheap and crappy.

Seriously? What is up with being able to play as helicopters!? Isn't this supposed to be Twisted Metal!?

I remember Rogue Trip which was made by the same developers had a UFO and a helicopter you could play as but they were just there for laughs and actually had to be unlocked with a cheat code. From what I can see, Twisted Metal is trying to implement helicopters as normal characters, somebody correct me if I'm wrong though.

Dynamithix 02-22-2012 03:34 AM

I bought Alan Wake's American Nightmare just an hour ago.

So far I'm really digging it. It's now pretty much completely open world, has a lot more weapons and has a survival mode. There's seriously a ton of content in it just for 1200 Microsoft points (~15$). I've yet to try out the survival mode, but I'm going to try it out later today.
