酒 <- さけ <- Sake: The word for alcoholic beverages in Japan. Commonly used in the west to mean rice wine.

さ <- Sa as in salmon

け <- Ke as in kettle

き <- Ki as in kick

沙紀 <- さき <- Saki: A female given name in Japan.
I have never heard anyone pronounce Sake 'Sa-ke' before (as opposed to Sah-kee).

I really ought to learn to use pronunciation symbols.

Also I pronounce salmon "sammon", maybe you don't.

I really ought to learn to use pronunciation symbols.
It will make discussions with a linguist much easier.
