I want to make the Abe's Oddysee Minecraft opening with skins, It sounds like an amazing idea. The only problem is that our names will be floating above our heads :/

I have a couple of small pieces of pixel art I need to do, but not a lot… I could probably help make some skins if they're needed.

Yeah me too. I have a program called Skin Maker and I even made a few Oddworld skins a while back. I'll see if I can find them actually.

I made a slig skin, but it appears that all of the skins I've made have vanished. Luckily I still have my current one hosted on Imageshack.

I'm making an Abe skin. Should I leave the tattoos out or in?
Because Abe obviously didn't have the tattoos in the scene we're going to recreate.

Just something I made at a friends house a while ago.

Need someone to have an all-black body and a security orb for the head. Though they could also play a second roll, of course.

If you copied Rupture Farms to a single player server when it's done and filled it full of dynamite, we could do the good end video as well! (Oh wait, that's Soulstorm. But I think we server mods I can't recall the proper title for have a way of altering the weather. Shame you can't make lightning rods...)

I knocked this up in 5 minutes, so it's a bit rough. It needs more detail around the rest of the orb, such as some rust or muck. I'll probably fix it up later, but I thought I should post it now to see if people have any other ideas.

I think that will look a little bit stupid imo.
It won't resemble a security orb very much with a black body...

When recreating something in Minecraft I think it's supposed to look a bit silly.

Maybe this will motivate people. Bear in mind that THIS IS A VERY, VERY EARLY TEST! 1.8 doesn't have the camera smoothing option either (fixed in 1.9 onwards but I can't get onto the server with that) so movements are a little jerky at the moment, plus not everything is finished yet - When doing this with people we can make the minecarts move, and can have actual people wearing skins instead of wool blocks:



Any skin made for this has to be as best quality as people can manage - Together we can make something awesome!

BTW, we need the following skins:

1) Green mudokons (perhaps a pallet-swapped Abe skin)
2) Abe
3) Sligs
4) Molluck
5) Glukkons wearing the following colours: turquoise, red, dark blue, dark green

I already made Abe. Not sure if that's what you guys want though. Feedback is welcome.

The skin isn't bad at all - Very good work, in fact. :) However maybe the head needs to be a little more blue.

EDIT: Oh yeah, I will need at least 9 actors for the boardroom scene - Not including myself since I'll be filming it.

That video is awesome; have to say I laughed most loudly at the awful wool bodies.
I loved the pistons and stuff. Was the pit opened in the opening scene? if so, maybe there should be lava under there revealed with a pison. If not, maybe there should be a stone half-block hiding lava, moved with a piston (that'd let some glow through, but I don't think that'd be a bad thing). Or indeed make it a bit bigger - two blocks by two blocks.
But it does look great. I know a black body with a security orb head would look lame but it'd work at least. If the orb player was flying, too...

We have to decide who is going to play who. I don't mind being a glukkon or something.

Also a Ghast for a security orb is a accident waiting to happen.

Wouldn't transparency work for a floating character? I assumed that if the person was semi-transparent then they would be partially invisible?

Bah, I can't compete with skin maker programs. I'll gladly be an actor though.

That's a good suggestion - Would be better than the wool posters. I'll have a play around with it - Thanks for that.

Part of the appeal of the project is that it's done with the default pack, so therefore it works in default minecraft and can be part of the multiplayer server. However if someone wants to make one for the FMVs, provided it's good and works with what's been built so far, I won't say no.

@ Splat - I made that room in about 5 minutes as a temporary prop, it's not final. More details such as those that you suggested can be added for when the FMV is made for real.

@ Crashpunk - Parts will be assigned when we actually film this thing, in the end it's just whoever is prepared to apply whatever skin. I'll need 9 people for the boardroom scene. The person playing Abe will have no not lag though - And of course everybody will have to be prepared to listen, preferably through voice chat. I'm gonna need stage hands for activating props too, such as the carts on the conveyor belts.

Also who owns that slig skin? It looks good - But can a better one be made by one of us?

@ AlexFili - The Abe skin that Mudokon_Master made is superior.

I think the Slig one can imporved greatly, I can't really make skins so I'm leaving it to someone else :)

Also just for continuity errors, Abe doesn't have the chest tattoo in the Oddysee opening scene.

Ah, I thought I should leave it out. So I'll give the slig a shot and I'll remove Abe's tattoo.

You know, I'm pretty sure the Slig skin you found, Chris is pretty much on the spot.
However, I did make a few touchups. I smoothed out the skin, making it look less pixelated. I also added a darker green and a more yellow tinge to it.
I also made a bit of an adjustment to the pants and tentacles (?) and removed Abe's tattoo.
