I get sleep paralysis all the time. It's awful, but I just rest until I properly wake up. First time I got it, I really panicked, but there's no way you can wake yourself by conciously trying to wake yourself (or at least, that's the case with me). I ususally wake up when I try to alter something without waking myself up - the other night, I woke up when trying to make my arm comfortable while I waited to wake up. A different night, I woke up when trying to check the time to see how long I had been in that state. I don't panic half as much as I used to. I used to really struggle to move, and I used to really try to vocalise to get help, but it doesn't work.

Actually is estimated 2% of all peoples have your problem.

OddjobAbe 11-20-2010 08:18 AM

I don't give a shit. Fuck off. I don't need you trying to antagonise me.

OANST 11-20-2010 08:19 AM

Could you chant him better? Please? We're all pulling for him.

Antagonise you:fuzconf:
When??

scrabface 11-20-2010 08:31 AM

a friend told me that he got sleep paralysis once and that it scared the shit out of him. But it never happened to me...

I dreamed once that I was in a fight with some guys. one hit me to the ground and while I tried to realign I watched one of them pouring a liquid over my right leg. before I knew what he was doing he took a zippo out of his pocket. At this point I realized he was up to burn me alive and I kicked my right leg at him with all my strength.
the odd thing was, I did this in reality, but the problem was, there is a bookcase right next to my bed and I hit the frame with my barefoot. the pain woke me up. in the morning I spent the half day at the hospital as two of my sweety toes (2nd and third) were broken.
I am so stupid I can hurt myself while sleeping. when I told the doctor how it did happen, there was something in his glance... like, "I am worth than this" or "I shouldn't have listen to my father" - I think his confidence has been shaken

OANST 11-20-2010 08:31 AM

FIX HIM WITH YOUR CHANTING! CAN'T YOU SEE THAT THE MAN IS IN PAIN?!

Bullet Magnet 11-20-2010 08:43 AM

I had sleep paralysis while at university once. Try explaining that to your professors.

Don't know if it's been mentioned in the thread, I don't want to read all 3 pages, but I've had this thing called sleep paralysis, which if I'm correct is similar to lucid dreaming. Basically I "woke up" and was lying in bed but I couldn't move at all. My arm was stretched out and so was my hand. My fingers seemed to be being bent backwards and I couldn't stop it. At the same time I heard this screaming noise in my ears. It wasn't a proper dream either, I can't describe it, but I know it was real life. Can't remember how long it lasted, but it wasn't nice and I wouldn't want anyone to have one of these things, really scared me.

I've had that happen a few times when I was younger. Almost always right in the middle of the night, once, during a storm. That was fun.

Bullet Magnet 11-20-2010 02:31 PM

I've had the exact same thing, and also some not entirely unpleasant variations about which I lack the vocabulary to describe.

scrabface 11-20-2010 03:01 PM

everyone has it, even dogs

ziggy 11-20-2010 03:08 PM

I've had that before I think. I 'woke up' but I couldn't move an inch. I wasn't wearing my glasses or contacts so I couldn't see worth shit and some blurry black thing in my room turned into a ghostly black blob that was floating towards me. It said something too, but I can't remember too well. That was terrifying for me.

Dynamithix 11-20-2010 03:17 PM

I just watched Prince of Darkness again and this dream sequence scared the shit out of me even though I've seen the movie 3 times already.

Asmoden 11-20-2010 03:42 PM

Can't see what scared you.

Shut up, OANST, MA and Scrabtrapman. You're not funny and you're not smart and your attempts at trolling come across as half-baked.

I've done that too. Not to the point of broken toes, admittedly, but there was a period when I put the spare mattress upright against the wall next to my bed to shield me from any painful late-night kicking.

what was your dream?

Nate 11-20-2010 05:56 PM

It happened a few times but it was years ago. The only one I remember was having an argument with my sister and kicking her on the shins. Which, for the record, is very out of character for me as we've never fought physically.

I suppose that dream-sister had her revenge as I was writhing in pain on my bed.

This story demands an elaboration D=

Anyway on the dream-happening-in-real-life thing... I only dreamt that the whole city was made of ice cream. Then I proceeded to lick it, and woke up by choking on my plushie that I was sleeping with. It had rather long and annoying hairs that didn't taste like ice cream x_x

I ended up accidentally making someone get a haircut when I started chewing their hair in my sleep. It's a wonder I didn't choke to death.

STM 11-21-2010 02:34 AM

Didn't they wake up and ask you to stop? I don't do weird stuff in my sleep but once my brother fell asleep but at like midnight he walked down stairs stood by the living room door and just stared at my family with massive eyes until we realised that he was down stairs. He mumbled something walked towards us and stopped. It was really weird.

Nope, didn't notice until the next morning. It wasn't unsalvageable, but they figured it was as good an excuse as any for a haircut.
