I beat it on Brutal last night. There's a little trick that I learned from the multiplayer that makes the last few battles a breeze. Namely, Fire Barons. A whole shit ton of Fire Barons. These guys are waaaay too powerful to be second tier. You only have to level your stage up once to get them, they don't require a lot of fans, they are the fastest moving unit in the game, and nothing but fourth tier enemies can lay a hand on them.
People in the multiplayer have been rushing with them for a while now, so I figured I would try it out in single player brutal, and the results were the same. The AI is just as confused by this tactic as the human players. Keep in mind that this is considered bad form when playing against live people, however. People are getting really sick of the Fire Baron rushers. Anyway, first thing that you will want to do when the match starts is play the solo to block the other team from creating units. As soon as that's done, send one group of Headbangers, one group of Razor Girls, and one healing unit to the first fan tower. As soon as you see the enemy coming play your battle cry to strengthen your troops, double team with a Razor Girl, and kill them. Once the fan tower is yours, send your troops to the second one. Plant a rally flag there and create one more group of Razor Girls. Repeat the battle cry/double team technique. Once you have that fan geyser do not attempt to take any more. Upgrade your stage to level two, move your rally flag back to your stage, and direct all of your existing troops back to your stage, as well. Now build as many Fire Barons as you can. Once you have spawned at least three sets of Fire Barons, take your rally flag to the enemy base, set your beacon there, and send all of your troops to attack it. Never create any units that are not Fire Barons after doing this. The enemy will be occupied with retaking the fan towers that you no longer need, and won't notice until too late that you are attacking their base. Stay at the base and wait for them to come to you. As soon as you see them, play the battle cry to strengthen your troops. Follow this with the solo that changes the weather to your favor. This is important since your enemy relies heavily on buffs and debuffs, and this will eliminate all of them. Once that is done play the bring it on home solo. This will cause a massive, flaming zeppelin to crash down where you are standing. It will kill most of their troops, but more importantly will cause massive damage to their stage. Once you have played this, fly away, and play the solo that blocks them from spawning new troops. You win. Simple, huh? |
Only 1 in 15 members of this forum are likely to read all of that. I am not one of them.
Anyway, good job. |
I wish I could actually afford to buy a new console for this game. They should've made it for Ps2 (it's not dead yet. :P)
We metalheads finally got THE game that we long yearned for (Guitar Hero doesn't count...unless a Metal Edition is gonna be officially made :P). ^^ Even the frickin' playlist is awesome! :D |

I read it, and I'm probably going to use it.
I did the first large scale Stage Battle on it yesterday, after the initial pants wetting over lack of fans and units I found it quite easy, then again I was attacking a couple of towers, not a stage. |
The first set of Brutal Legend DLC will arrive next week. It contains two new multiplayer maps, and a new axe.

Microsoft, of course.
|
Damn moneyhats.
|
I'm now at 950/1000 achievement points on this. Only one left to go. I need to win 28 more multiplayer matches to get it.
|
I just wanted to pop in to say how meh I thought the game really was. I mean, come on. It's not that great. People need to pull Schafer's presumably hairy nuts out of their mouths and start speaking up. The game is mediocre. It's like everyone feels bad for not liking Psychonauts fast enough to make it a huge success, so now they need to really pour on the love for Brutal Legend.
It bothers me. |
I don't know, man. I've spent over seventy hours on it between the single and multiplayer, and I'm still not bored of it. I see the complaints that people have. A lot of them are ridiculous (bitching about graphics), some come down to personal preference (bitching about RTS sections), and some are pretty spot on (single player length, and lack of variety in side missions). However, the over all experience is more fun than I've had in a game since Nuts 'N' Bolts.
If you start playing the multiplayer with a partner, you will find that the game is a lot more nuanced than you originally thought. I thought that the best way to play was just to keep a balance of every type of troop on the field. But there is a lot more to it than that. There actually is quite a bit of strategy involved if you want to win against live players. Anyway, 2 on 2 is where it's at. Also, I got my last achievement on Saturday. I now have 1000/1000. |
Holy shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit, Brutal Legend costs like 35$ around here brand new.
And I don't have enough money to buy it. |
A game about Jack Black starring Jack Black as Jack Black.
I'll buy it. |

Obviously I did the right thing and shipped them. But man, it's so weird lookin'. Shiiiiit. |
I think you should have bought that instead.
Also, I think you should start doing re-paints on all of these toys you buy. Or at least some. It's fun. |
:
I do this with almost every action figure I buy nowadays, even if its just a simple clean-up job to make them look as nice as the picture of the hero model on the box. Also a big fan of the blank vinyl figures, I've been meaning to buy a case of them for years. For a while I was buying blank cloth dolls and making my own crazy voodoo critters, I should get back into that. |
Some of them I will. As soon as I can afford good paint for PVC. And skill for painting. And Paintbrushes.
I think Turdly Tank and turdly Tank Jr. and friend will be my first attempts, since the big one has shitty arms and the little ones are shitty. |
Citadel is good for fine detail brushes and paint. It's used primarily by hobbyists to paint Warhammer figures. I wouldn't recommend it for painting large surfaces, but for getting all the nuts and bolts, painting patterns, giving it a weathered appearance.
|
Customizing vinyl toys is a hoot. Munnys are okay, but the shape of the head can make the initial design a bit annoying. Mighty Muggs are my personal favorite. You can still find blank muggs online, but I prefer to hunt for clearanced muggs and primer them myself, as the blanks need atleast one coat of primer to cut down on their glossy coat.
|
:
When I get around to painting a few I'll be sure to show you. I definitely like the ones you've made so far. Also, thanks for the advice on the primer - would you recommend any particular brand? |
Krylon: fusion for plastic is what I use. It's technically just a spray paint made specifically, for, you guessed it, plastic [and other similar materials] but it works really well for priming. Just remember to do multiple light coats. And wait around fifteen minutes in between applications. I didn't at first, and some of my earlier stuff is crap.
