But your PC can stop and so you have to reset it when you are playing games. Or if there are many programs started the PC can be slow. So the PS version is more reliable. I think this.

if AO or AE runs slow on your pc either, you're using a pc from 1998, or you should really do a computer security course

If you're using vista it should be fast as hell because the Aero vista UI uses directX which AO also uses (direct draw). Also you don't need 2GB of ram, you need to disable that "superfetch" service because it uses 100% of your memory to cache everything.. wtf I know.
Your statement is also void because AO uses LESS memory then windows vista's explorer.exe. Finally I think that vista is pants and I wont be using that until forced to "upgrade", XP ftw. And if emules using too much memory then stop pirating stuff :p |

No, I'm joking :p. But you don't have Windows Vista. My computer is not fast. I need 2 GB of RAM and I need to use emule. If you will see my PC you will understand what I am saying. |

If your computer isnt fast with vista then its because as I said before, vista is pants, or maybe you updated your xp machine to vista. Maybe you should install linux on dual boot and run AO via wine, im sure it would be faster :P (you can use emule on linux too for your warez that you "need") |
My PC is not bad but is old for be a Windows Vista (I purchased it on February, when it was released) and at starting was slow and then, with updating and using good antivirus and cleaner programs, it got speed. Lately is a good computer but I will strengthen it. But excuse me if said things that aren't true. I didn't want to do it. Anyway, AE and AE, for PS or PC, are the best game... :D LOL!!!!!!!

PSX or PC for the first 2 Oddworld games?
what version do you prefer between pc and psx of oddysee and exoddus?
i prefer the pc version |
I've never played the PC versions, so I can only vouch for the awesomeness that is the PS versions.
Alcar... |
Obviously, I'm going to go with the PS versions, because I don't own any computer versions.
What I've gathered from my short experience of playing the PC games, combined with several screenshots featured on this Forum, is that the PC versions have less visual quality, but more detail. Another reason I'm choosing PS, is because almost every game I've ever played on my computer has stuffed up. I don't know why, but neither of my computers like having games played on them. The games pause, and freeze all of the time. That, and because I generally don't like the idea of playing games on my computer; they use up precious disk space, and are generally a lot more complicated for me. |
I played both versions... I prefer the PC version, because it is better for me to use numeric keypad for speaking...
PSX version is "read-only", but in PC version it is possible to make some simple changes - see lvl files in this forum... there is no -ddcheat in psx version, but in PC version there is no invincible cheat... both are good but I prefer PC version.. |
i have both on pc but i did once have AE on ps1 when i was quite young.i cant really remember b it on ps1 so im saying pc.plus, the dd-cheat is on pc.

lvl files what do exactly? |
I prefer the PS version...and there is already a thread for this .
|

however the better version should be the pc version because has the double of the resolution of psx version the controls are the same (also with a gamepad on a pc) |
I like them both although if I had to choose I would pick the PC version, because I could edit the .lvl files with Paul's Level Editor, use -ddcheat/-it_is_me_your_father and I find it easier to record Abe's Oddysee/Exoddus on the PC rather than on the PS version. Although I find the controls easier on the PS version cause I'm better with controllers than keyboards. Well I'd say get the PC version if you want to do extra things, but the PS version is just as fun anyway.
|
i like psx version, but with pc version you can use -ddcheat and paul's lever editor and etcetera...
|
I forgot to say - if you have psx version, you can make cd image and play it on pocket pc using playstation emulator :) I've got both, AO and AE, on my pocket pc and I love it - I can play it wherever I am! But I prefer PC version for home playing.
|
Yep, emulator is good, but nobody can be better than ddcheat :)
|
yep,the dd-cheat is ze best, you gotta love flying around
|
Damn, i have to buy the pc version of the games! :)
|
i suggest this
|
No, i don't trust ebay, if i'm lucky, i'll find on the shop. :)

IMO, It's kind of a mixed bag. I've played both PC and PSX versions of AE and AO (even though the PSX versions were in German, but they're essentially the same game anyway just with different voices).
The PC versions of AO and AE run a lot faster than the PSX versions (but your decision making has to be quicker because of this), and loading times are quicker too, but sometimes the sprites and sounds lack quality due to the conversion process from PSX to PC (in AO, it's barely noticeable, but it's quite noticeable in AE). However, PC screens normally have a lot higher resolution than most TVs, so all the graphics are crystal clear compared to the PSX version unless you have a HD TV or so. Equally you're more likely to have a better sound system connected to your PC rather than your TV, so you're probably better off with the PC version to get the full Oddworld experience. :) In the end though, the PSX versions are the original versions, and play how they've been designed to play. The PC versions do glitch majorly sometimes, and like other people have said here, the controls are different - You need to be used to a keyboard to enjoy playing the PC versions, unless of course you have a game controller attached to your PC. |
I've never played AO or AE on the PC so I vote Ps1! Plus with my sister being on the computer all day I wouldn't have a chance to play the games
I'd go with a PS1 contoller then a mouse anyday. Keyboard whatever. :dead: |
How're you supposed to play AO and AE with a mouse? :P
|
Oh god... Not this again. :dead: I prefer the PS version due to the fact that's the version I started with, and it feels much nicer to play in my bedroom or the living room rather than a computer desk. Plus the controls are a lot easier to get the hang of. But the PC version runs smoother and faster, and you finish it a lot faster, which I don't like that much. I like seeing the design of the levels more and I don't like to rush while playing. So yeah, I prefer the PS version. MY opinion. ;)
