Love dem gunz!

So uh, i've made a n00b for the demo, based off zero's sprites. I hope you like 'em =D. I've only done one incase they get rejected or summat...

Gretin 06-03-2007 02:03 PM

Thanks for the comments on the music, guys, I was afraid you wouldn't like it :D

:

Nice musics! But how will bosses be implemented? Would you run from them, then get them killed later? (if this is that similar to the usual Oddworld gameplay) Abe barely could fight or anything, not directly

Wait and see XD

:

Gretin, that’s really a rather funky ditty! Well done; it suits the gaming medium well!

I may get around to PMing you some story/setting/gameplay ideas soon, if I can remember to, just to see if I can’t come up with something productive for this project.

Thanks :D I've had plenty of practice, I learn heaps of game musics by ear so yeah... :p

:

Dude! I love it! Did you actually play this yourself or did you compose it on the PC? It's awesome, well done! :)

A little of both... I started with a bit of a play on the keyboard, but as the music is going to be module format, as far as I know there isn't actually any way to go direct from the keyboard to the module file :p But I got the next best thing, I recorded the instruments from the keyboard (with a crappy microphone, hence why there's a little bit of noise in it as well - I'm getting a new keyboard soon, though, so I'll probably try to get a cable to go direct from the keyboard to pc and then I can record the better instruments from the better keyboard and hopefully avoid the noise :D)
and then I composed it on the PC using the recordings. So yeah...

:

These are some random doodles I did. I dought you'd want to use them though.

We'll see, they might be able to be used in a cinematic sequence (the still frames I talked about before), but I doubt that the sprites for in-game will really be detailed enough to show a heck of a lot of the design of weapons... :p Except for the basic shape etc...

That looks alright, though if I wanted to be really picky I could say "It resembles the base too much!" But I'm not going to be really picky XD
The only thing is, I don't know that there's much point doing that, the demo will just be using the sprites from MMZ and then we'll probably be shifting to a different style.. Though I don't know, the spriters may decide they want to do it in MMZ style :D We'll see.

Anyway, as for a progress report, I'm sorry to say I haven't been able to make a lot of progress recently... I've been extremely busy, and haven't even had time to post this reply until now (I know I've posted other little things, but they were just that - little :p). Hopefully I'll be able to get a bit of work done on it now, though, that things seemed to have eased of a little.

Damn, I wish I'd come by here earlier, I'd love to contribute. I can write and sprite, as it were. If there were a standardised character sprite sheet I could use it to churn out forum members as characters, either NPC or playable.

If it could be done, there could be a sprite for every active/significant/OWF:UL character/member who is playable, but when not selected to play as, each star as in-game NPCs whom you may interact with and undertake their distinctive side-quests or main missions, such as Splat Bond's secret agent persona, or some sort of Rexy-related bondage dungeon level.

Gretin 06-13-2007 12:54 AM

No one said it's too late XD I'm not sure what I'm going to do about selectable characters yet, there may just be one character, or I may just have it RPG-esque where you "make up" a character (e.g. name, and using the standard character sprite sheet you could design what they look like to a certain extenet), or you may have a selection of signifcant characters. We'll see.

But I'm hoping we will be able to get special sprites for the significant members (though that sounds kinda mean, giving some special status and others are just nobodies :P), to make them stand out, and you'll probably encounter a boss with each one. I might even be really nasty and make some that the boss can actually harm if you're not careful enough XD

Anyway, progress report... Sorry, there's hasn't been a heck of a lot of progress. Spare time is hard to come by at the moment. Just so you know, my next step at the moment is getting a tileset sorted from the Zero game so that I can actually make the level look nice... ish. But tilesets take time XD Especially since, although this is only a demo, I'd prefer for it to not look completely crap. But hey, this is giving everyone plenty of time to decide if they want to do something, and what they want to do (though I haven't seen many new people :p)!
And on that note, Bullet Magnet, it's good to see someone else say they want to sprite, so can I see an example of your sprite and writing work?

Munch's Master 06-23-2007 06:24 AM

Well, I've finally fixed my PC, so Gretin, I'll get to work on story ideas and concept arts, and try and get a couple of pics up within the week. D'you want some sprites for the demo, or should I hold off spriting until the final version?

Also, an idea for a noob 'boss', is to have the stereotypical D&D /WoW obsessive, with the typical +3 Mace, and so forth. Unoriginal I know, but you have to play to the stereotypes.
Also Stingbee must be in the game. Must must must.
Who will play the hero's Bigface/Raisin-style mentor character? And what exactly will the powers be- Oddworld related, such as Vendos and possesion, Oddworld powers but with OWF names (Eg. possesion- IP hacking), or purely OWF style stuff?

And for rescue portals, I suggest we call them Logout Portals. It's too appropriate.

Hmmm... I didn't know you can do that with GM. But then again, I didn't program in GM before.

I could correct your grammah if you need it... (yeah, I'm sensitive about it)
I can also do a good British accent if you need it.
And I might come up with a few concept drawings anytime soon.

Hmmm.. Putting in a mod trying to launch bans and infractions to you as the boss at the end of a level? How's that sound?

moxco 07-04-2007 06:11 PM

I always imagined that the noob s shot bad senteces at you. for example: 'i ate teh apel'
and you shoot good sentenses for exaple: 'I ate the apple.'

SligStorm 07-04-2007 06:45 PM

Lets get building!

I CAN help in a few ways. :D Im not as good making games alown but this will be cool if everyone takes part xD.

Ridg3 01-03-2010 11:53 AM

I have some experience with the GML language so I guess I can help out there and as for spriting...I'm shit. I can also help with the story as well if you so wish.

Splat 01-03-2010 01:26 PM

Um, it may be worth your noticing that this thread is two years old.

MarsMudoken 01-03-2010 02:14 PM

I RETURN FOOLS! MUHAHAHAHAHAHAHA I'm done.

DOES IT MATTER?

...wait, I think it does.

Well, despite everything that's gotten me banned, I want to come back to this area of the zulag. And share some ideas. Face it, no matter how many times I'm infracted I never learn. Wait...NO NOT THE BAN! HAVE MERCY!!!

Assuming I wasn't infracted, here's my thoughts. 1. Mods could give you powers, like some muds would in the first 2 oddworld games. As for what powers I don't know. I am lazy and I command you people with a life to come up with something. Speaking of people with no life, I was thinking what I would be in the game. I perfectly realize I am considered a troll of sorts. True I don't agree with it but at least I don't live in denial. That's retarted. And 2. maybe some characters could look like your own avatar. Like I would be a Mud, Splat would be that...blue...thingy...ya' you get the idea.

Splat 01-03-2010 04:54 PM

Mars, you're talking about a project that doesn't exist anymore. No one is working on it and probably never will. You might as well write suggestions for how to build the Empire State Building or the Sydney Opera House.

MarsMudoken 01-03-2010 07:38 PM

Nobody told me.

enchilado 01-03-2010 08:20 PM

Why don't you pop over to Fanwerkz? There's some projects going on over there.

Um, it may be worth your noticing that this thread is two years old.

Where did nobody tell you?

Splat 01-04-2010 02:02 AM

Ugh, this is ridiculous. If you'd checked the last post before 2010, you would see it was made in 2007. If no work has been done on a project in over two years, it's fairly obvious that it's not happening.

Nobody told me.

And again, you exemplify your trend of blaming others before your own stupidity.

Shame, this project was awesome in its time. It still is, except the fact that it kinda died.

AlexFili 01-04-2010 07:35 AM

It's a like that song Stan by Eminem. He's just too late.

Gretin 01-07-2010 12:07 AM

Yeah, it was kinda one of those things that was too big for how many people were going to help. The story never got anywhere, there wasn't really anyone who could do up graphics, etc. Perhaps I should've at least completed my proof-of-concept engine, but I kind of gave up seeing how unlikely it was getting everything it needed. And considering most of the people who were interested are gone now, I think it's safe to say this is dead.
