I've been playing Asura's Wrath. It is barely a game, with the majority of the action coming from quick time events and each part you actually control is just used as almost a break between each extended quick time event (and the combat is kinda repetitive).

But MAN that game is amazing. The visuals and what actually goes on in the cut scenes is just so fucking japanese it is astonishing. It is like what I imagine the creators of Dragon Ball Z or Naruto would make if they were on copious amounts of drugs.

This game is so fucking good, oh my god. It keeps QTE's interesting & sensible and despite obviously being written as a Shounen for 12 year old boys, the story is really cool. Shame about the DLC ending.

Do you mean the ending of the DLC or the fact that the ending IS DLC?

Mac Sirloin 06-28-2012 02:05 PM

IS DLC. It's a really kickass addition to the game, I'm just bothered I had to shell out more money.

Laser 06-28-2012 02:07 PM

That is understandable. I can't wait to play it though, the cliff hanger at the end of the full game was so ridiculous I have to find out what the fuck it all plays out.

Good thing I paid like £15 ($23) for it.

Mr. Bungle 06-28-2012 04:12 PM

As a huge Capcom fan, I've considered getting Ashura's Wrath. But seeing as it's 90% quicktime events and practically a movie, I'm not so sure. I might just get Dragon's Dogma. Anyone here played that yet?

Strike Witch 06-28-2012 08:01 PM

Friends say Dragon's Dogma is basically like if you took the open world of skyrim, the combat and oh shit oh shit nature of Dark Souls, a more gradual difficulty scale, and the crazy character editor of various MMOs.

It's a bit dodgy at points, but once you put some time into it you can get really enthralled.

Nepsotic 06-29-2012 01:45 AM

I played Dead Island. It wasn't horrible, it was just a badly put together game. And pretty boring. I'm returning it.

AlexFili 06-30-2012 01:51 AM

I'm quite enjoying Sword & Sworcery. The controls don't feel natural but the graphics and gameplay are top notch. The ambient noises and music in particular really feel genuinely great and truly form a deep connection with the game itself.

Yes, but since it went F2P, I believe there are still many less-skilled players there

(That's a good thing)

Varrok 06-30-2012 07:08 AM

(it is?)

It means that beginners won't get slaughtered.

Currently playing The King of Fighters XIII. I'm usually not that into fighting games, but I've grown to really like to this series. I think it might be the style of it all that I really like.

SNK fighting games > fighting games

Especially Fatal Fury! I love how short all the bouts are, makes things more intense.

Phylum 07-02-2012 03:54 AM

Still working through Kingdom Hearts 2 Final Mix occasionally. I hit level 90 just before and I finally synthesized every item, leaving me with the most ridiculous stats I've ever had. They're not even close to what I need to attempt some of the uber bosses, such as data Axel, data Xemnas or Terra. Those guys still take me down in a few hits, even with second chance/once more and my ridiculously small MP recharge time.

Some of the endgame bosses in this game aren't even fair. Data Roxas is fine until he hits 3/4 health. Once he hits his aggressive phase he starts shooting fucking lasers at you, while continuing to dash around the map really quickly and giving you only a brief window to attack him after he performs his combo, which is a pain in the arse to evade. Before long he started countering me whenever I tried to attack him in that phase, attack breaking and chaining me. Eventually he wore me down because I just couldn't hurt him any more. Since my last attempt my MP regen time has ~halved and I have a few more points in strength, so I should be able to take him down soon.

I'm looking forward to KH3D getting released at the end of this month.

EDIT: Here's someone spamming their way through the Roxas fight with Limit Form. This seems to be largely luck that he doesn't get killed while on 1hp for most of that ending phase.

Played the Goldeneye Reloaded demo on XBL, didn't like it at all, too COD for my liking. It would've been a nostalgic treat to be able to play Goldeneye on a Nintendo console again while getting to try a Wii game online for the first time; although, my fondest memories of Goldeneye involve going over people's houses to play it with them in RL...damn I miss those days.

Nepsotic 07-02-2012 10:41 AM

A lot of shooters these days are just CoD and Gears knockoffs, so I wouldn't be too shocked.

Ever played Capcom vs. SNK? They have at this video rental store near my place, I considered buying it since I love Capcom fighters.

Yes, I totally agree, it was a horrible game, the multiplayer was awful to!

AlexFili 07-02-2012 12:05 PM

Local Multiplayer was the highlight of the 80s/90s. Now, since we have the internet, the whole world is our opponent. That means 24/7 gaming sometimes.

And?

Dynamithix 07-02-2012 12:29 PM

I played through Dragon's Lair. It was a fun short adventure.

JennyGenesis 07-02-2012 01:24 PM

I saw you playing that, I only played the trial, to be honest, playing the trial is essentially like playing the whole game, and I'm sure there's a port out there that would cost less than buying the XBLA version.

Just have your parents buy it for you. Fuck.

Yeah, I rented Capcom vs SNK EO for the original Xbox back in the day, it was the first fighting game I ever played online actually. It was fun, I would definitely buy it if I ever saw it, but I am diehard SNK. I have always been terrible at Street Fighter, especially pulling off special moves. Fatal Fury's special moves are more bare bones and require less button combinations; also, since regular attacks do so much damage it kind of prevents veteran players from having an overwhleming advantage like they always do in Capcom fighting games. Plus I like the character designs in SNK fighters better, they're edgy in a cool 90s way and SNK chicks are slammin' with their more developed bodies.

Also, fuck online multiplayer, it'll never be as fun as local...

I got it for free though, I would never buy it for the price it's going for in the marketplace.

JennyGenesis 07-02-2012 02:17 PM

As in the free trial?

Or you got the full game for free?

OANST 07-02-2012 02:22 PM

I can definitely see why people who don't have the nostalgia of playing that game in the arcade may not fall in love with it, but that game was the shit when I was a kid.

JennyGenesis 07-02-2012 02:26 PM

I can understand why it was the shit when you were young, it was totally different to everything else at the time, and even today it still looks good, but really it's a very linear game where you only press buttons that appear on the screen. There are older games that yes, graphically they were nowhere near as good but they were less linear and the player had more control.

Think of pong, it's just a dot and a couple of lines but the player has freedom to do what they want and the outcome is not the same everytime.

Wow, you've said something of value that has really opened my eyes to the point you were trying to get across.
