Yes, Andy Stott has an excellent composition of sounds in this one. Relaxing and anxious at the same time.

But my favourites are these two:

fuck! I didn't know it was the same guy you showed me a year ago or so. I fount the track within the bleep 100 tracks 2012 and fell in love with it. he got such a weird way of building music.

other good stuff from the list:

I got the CD from my GF a while ago. There is a lot of epic music on there, but this is by far one of my favorites.

Tigers don't buy CD's!

Varrok 01-18-2013 01:12 PM

He didn't buy the CD. He just... got it.

Tigers have no respect and don't support the artists they like.

Havoc 01-18-2013 01:13 PM

Okay, well to be honest she ripped the music from Youtube and put it on a CD. But it's the thought that counts. This is actually one of the few CD's I wanted to buy, but I can't really tell my GF that without insulting the work she put into it.

OANST 01-18-2013 01:15 PM

Cat's don't smoke...I mean, Tigers don't steal music!

I've been listening to a lot of Smelliott lately:

This song made me tear up a little bit the other day. It's just too good.

Also apparently the new Bad Religion is pretty great, might check it out.

The title of that song immediately made me think of a line from this:

Speaking of Venus and Mars,

Hey Steamer, what'd you think of Epicloud? Pretty underwhelming, for me. It had some decent songs, but nothing that really brings me back to listen again like his other albums. Wasn't nearly as epic or loud as I expected.

Yeah, it wasn't that "epic". It was a rather soft approach to rock and metal. Apart from "Kingdom" and "Where We Belong" on Epicloud, it was a bit "meh". It's not bad, by any means, but isn't Ziltoid or Ki, or even Addicted! for that matter. I know what he was trying to do, gather some musics that were influenced by the last four albums and make one completely new, but I guess it didn't work for me.

Now, EPICLOUDER, the 2nd CD of Epicloud, has some neat gems, like "Quietus", "Love Tonight", "The Mind WASP", "Woah NO!" and "Socialization", making it more heavier and Devin-like. I've yet to listen "Epicloud", "Cry Forever" and "Take My Ego", but I doubt it'll make my views change that much.

Mr. Bungle 01-18-2013 06:17 PM

I had no idea Epiclouder was a thing. Might have to check it out.

You seriously should. It's their best album since Stranger Than Fiction, it completely surprised me with its quality. Their last few weren't bad albums, but this is on a totally different level.

Slog Bait 01-19-2013 06:33 AM

Found this guy a few months ago. His work is pretty good for the most part.

Ridg3 01-19-2013 06:45 AM

I will personally shit over anyone who says that Epicloud wasn't a great album. Epicloud delivered exactly what Devin said he was going to deliver, even more perhaps. He has created a more accessible album without compromising what his music is about.

Not too mention that Save Our Now and Angel is probably two of the best songs he's ever done... in fact;

Epiclouder is awesome too, but I always find myself listening to Whoa No as shit load more than others.

I think neither of us said it wasn't a great album, we just said it wasn't on par on others, by OUR standards. I personally think it's a rather good rock album, but I prefer the heavier approach Devin makes to music. I know he wants to work on other genres, types and different moods of music, but that doesn't mean I'll always like his stuff. I greatly enjoyed Ghost, but I prefer Ziltoid. That's how it is. Still, Epiclouder takes the cake for me. By the way, have you listened to "Epicloud", "Cry Forever" and "Take My Ego"?

Mr. Bungle 01-19-2013 01:23 PM

I don't think it's a great album. Pretty average by Townsend standards, if you ask me.

Phylum 01-19-2013 09:06 PM

This is the kind of thing I want to emulate in a composition at some point this year. I was playing around with an idea earlier, but it was rubbish. It came out overly corny just like every other attempt I've made.

Such a perfect song. That might be my favourite Devy album.

Steamer_KING 01-20-2013 05:22 PM

"Away" is my favourite track on Accelerated Evolution, followed by:

"Away" is a kinda of soft spot for me, I simply love instrumentals, because that's all I care about on music, the way instruments talk to you, without any words spoken, and what you feel about it.

Mr. Bungle 01-20-2013 05:34 PM

I think Storm is my favourite. It's just so emotional, the vocal delivery is legendary.

The best thing is when good vocal piece can use words to enhance a melody.

Surf's Up by Brian Wilson is the perfect example of this, plus I love sharing the song. It's amazing music but when you listen the words are complete nonsense. They let the music tell the story while they just make the right sounds to go with the melody.

None of the words in the entire album make any sense, really. There are some fantastic lines nonetheless. It's all very effective with the psychedelic feel of the album. Everyone who likes Pet Sounds and/or any of the Beetles stuff from around then should buy the original SMiLE sessions. It's tragic that it was never finished off and released.

Indeed, his voice works are really good. I've showed them to a friend of mine who is studying Music Theory in Hamburg and he was blown away with Ziltoid, of how could Devin applied Metal with Opera Vocals in such a good way. He instantly became a fan.

Also, I really like this one:

That's also true, I've heard many songs that the lyrics simply didn't meant a thing, BUT changed how I perceived the song/music itself. I think that's a better technique than just simply "read a poem" type of song. I'm not saying they're bad or anything like that, I have a couple of songs that I really, REALLY like the lyrics, but for me, music it's all about instruments. Maybe because I grew listening to my grandfather playing guitar by itself.
