The "bats" that you encounter in AO do they have a name or they are just "bats" and why are they so deadly to Abe?

I m really sorry to bring back that old topic about a box containing slurgs but It s just was bugging me as hell so I had to post.

It s quite simple.....the crate is clearly bashed so it s there accidentally......I don t know really why do you so hate simple solutions.....

I'm not sure what you're replying to here. It's generally a good idea to quote other people's posts in your one, so we know to what you're referring. You can do this using the 'Quote' button on the bottom right (or the "+ button if you want to quote multiple posts at once).

Anyway I have also a question.

As far as we know, they're just known as bats. As for why they're so deadly, I can only assume that Oddworldian bats are venomous or have some sort of toxin in their saliva (rather than just the anti-clotting chemicals that Earth vampiric bats have).

Question: Anybody know why Abe has four fingers in oddworld Abe's oddysee game and Abe's exoddus game only three fingers? Or whether the inhabitants of factors have chosen to remove Abe from one finger off (on abe's exoddus and munch's oddysee game.)?

Xavier 07-24-2009 10:44 AM

the answer can be found here:

http://oddworldlibrary.net/toe/FAQ#W...be%27s_Exoddus

OANST 07-24-2009 10:52 AM

The answer to this question, just as the answer to most questions is: The Japanese.

joshkrz 07-24-2009 12:12 PM

I with OANST.

It's something to do with meat packers and how they lost fingers.

Nate 07-24-2009 06:46 PM

That's amazing joshkrz! But I'm afraid that fastability already knew that, seeing as he actually reads everyone's posts and clicked on Xavier's link.

Are Mudokons carnivore, omnivore or herbivore? If they are carnivores/omnivores what animals do they hunt?

Wings of Fire 07-27-2009 02:12 PM

They're omnivorous, and I imagine they ate all of the sacred critters and infinitely moreso.

As far as I'm aware, tribal muds do eat a fair bit of meat, since they farm meep and stuff. Generally, they live off the land like tribal Africans would, eating meat and plants that they get through nature-friendly methods. Of course slave muds would eat meat. You saw Abe rubbing his stomach at the sight of paramite pies and scrab cakes in AO's opening FMV.

Question: Someone knows how or what will happen if Elum meet the slogs? whenever I try to go to the next screen, where they would be the slogs (using elum to do the wall glitch), but the game crashed all the time, so someone knows how Elum could meet the slogs?

AlexFili 07-28-2009 02:19 AM

In the real oddworld, Slogs would probably attack Elum. However, this is not possible in the actual game, since the Elum sections are heavily scripted. You'll notice that it's impossible to shoot Elum (but you can make him fall off ledges and walk into mines).

joshkrz 07-28-2009 04:00 PM

Well the same applys when a scrab or paramite meets a slog, or so I read about. Perhaps its because the animations and functions associated with the two together are not there but the game tries to find them. The same would apply to elum also. This is however a very bland explanation. I very much doubt there would be a way to get elum to meet a slog.

moxco 07-28-2009 09:48 PM

http://www.propertyrightsresearch.or...st_three_h.htm

I know this sounds random but I think slogs would attack elum. Slogs are based on dogs and elum is mule backwards.

looney-bin 07-29-2009 12:51 AM

I wonder in AE if you can get a paramite to meet a slig or slog via invinciblity cheat+that cheat where you can move about anywhere.

AlexFili 07-29-2009 03:55 AM

Not really possible. Most areas only have 1-2 types of creatures in it.

Sekto Springs 08-07-2009 07:21 AM

Thanks to TOGG I know the days of Oddworld Image request threads are long gone. But I have to ask, does anyone have a hi-res (I'm talking desktop wallpaper size or greater) of the AE movie poster where Abe has his arms outstretched to the sky? If so, send it to me immediately.

What is the name of that?
Why do the Fuzzles have whiskers in that pic?

Slaveless 08-07-2009 09:02 AM

That should be a concept design of a Meetle; a type of wildlife that Munch could've controlled.

Those aren't Fuzzles. Those are baby Meetles. Munch was suppose to raise Meetles throughout the game that could later collabarate with Abe's Mudokons as a method of transportation and attack. (http://oddworldlibrary.net/archives/...=RAMO0027.jpg1)
If he didn't, they would become Mugs (http://oddworldlibrary.net/archives/...=CAMO0156.jpg6) that would help the Industrial races instead.

Wil 08-07-2009 09:03 AM

The Fuzzles have whiskers for the same reason they’re purple — it’s just an earlier design for them. They were probably removed to make animating them in Real Time and pre-rendered sequences that much easier.

The larger creature is a Meetle grub, the thing that can turn into either a herbivorous Meetle or a carnivorous Mug. Meetles are used by Mudokons; Mugs are used by Glukkons.

Pepi 08-07-2009 09:38 AM

Why in AO sligs respond to abe and in AE they don t?Why did they removed it from the second game?

Wil 08-07-2009 09:47 AM

They didn't. Sligs still respond to Abe in exactly the same way. Can you give an example of where they don't? I don't think every Slig responds to Abe, in either AO or AE.

Is there a pure image of the face from the startup screen of AO?

I've wondered the same thing. It's such a unique image. I always thought, based on the facial shape, that it was perhaps a sculpture of a Glukkon back when they were still a peaceful, spiritual race.

Oh btw, nice job answering my previous question guys. 'preciate it! <_<

used:) 08-07-2009 09:58 PM

I thought I remembered seeing some high-res images of the posters. However, I can't think of where it might have been.

And yeah, that image is awesome. Strange how it's possibly the most mysterious image of Oddworld and it's the very first one you see.

Sekto Springs 08-07-2009 11:30 PM

Yeah, I really do think it may be one of the Glukkons' native ancestors. It has the proportions of a Glukkon minus the horrible complexion and the predisposition to look like an angry raisin. If I recall there was already a whole thread about this topic many moons ago. Anyone feel like digging it up?

Nate 08-07-2009 11:39 PM

I remember the thread. The resultant, forum-wide response was "NFI".

I think I asked Alf once. I didn't get any meaningful answer.

Xavier 08-08-2009 12:28 AM

To get that picture of the statue I'm afraid you'll have to dig into the code files, I remember searching for it but never actually found it.

As for the high res pictures of the poster I don't think there are any of the one you are referring to, only of this one:

used:) 08-08-2009 07:10 AM

I think I'm the one who made the thread, actually. :goof:

I've heard it's the face of a native Glukkon.

They were probably removed to make animating them in Real Time and pre-rendered sequences that much easier.

And were replaced by thousands of strands of hair on each Fuzzle.
