Assassin’s Creed is a bad movie and nobody should go see it.
In other news, I’m halfway through a Star Wars Machete Order session (just finished watching Episode 2), and it’s pretty amazing how completely unnecessary Episode 1 is to the whole series. |
That's not a bad thing. Imagine having to watch Episode 1 to truly understand Star Wars.
Also, Episode 2 The Phantom Edit was so much better than the original E2. They cut a lot of nonsense. |
I watched Punisher: War Zone with some friends the other night and I was too marveled by it to laugh at anything.

I watched Arrival earlier; it’s a pretty interesting take on how the first contact with aliens could go. It felt pretty grounded to me, with how everyone is so on edge for possible attack and completely in the dark about how to even communicate with the aliens. It was shorter than I expected, which was actually a pleasant surprise since it didn’t stretch the story out too thin and overstay its welcome. I think my only criticism would be for the ending: The tension as the different human factions broke off contact and prepared to attack worked very well, but the way in which the protagonist succeeds in understanding the aliens’ message and then defusing the situation comes across as a little too deus ex machina to me; I think I would have preferred the climax to have been rooted more in the efforts to translate and come to understand the aliens, which was an interesting process to watch. But I suppose that the ending wouldn’t have had so much emotional impact without its twist, so I can live with that. |
I don't think I've posted here in years, but anyway.
The new A Series of Unfortunate Events on Netflix is actually pretty damn good. It reminds me of the books a lot, whilst also making references/in-jokes to itself as a TV show. It's worth the watch if you enjoyed the books. |

I've been watching a semi-new Japanime called Girlish Number. It's a pretty funny satire of the production of a terrible anime and all the cynicism behind it. I want more shows like this.
Regional dialect girl is best girl. |
That sounds quite like something I could enjoy, I’ll have to give it a look-see.

I've watched the anime Erased some weeks ago. It's short (13 episodes if I remember right) but its worth to watch.
And I finished to watch the 1st ep of the 7th season of TWD jesus JESUS http://nritribune.com/wp-content/upl...015/02/142.gif |

Everyone needs to know I binge watched Trollhunters and it's always nice to see a pretty average "the chosen one" story executed in a way that keeps you interested the entire way through. I really enjoyed it. The cliffhanger when Jim walked into the dark world after activating the eclipse powers is going to haunt me because I Need To See What Happens Next. How are you going to introduce an upgrade like that and just end the season ;_;
Like yeah, it's pretty overall predictable. It's one of those things where you know the heroes are just gonna win because that's the type of story it is. I'm just really interested on seeing how they win, especially since main/recurring characters can and will die or get seriously injured The way I've been describing it is it's like what Danny Phantom could have been had it been in better hands. |
The new Beauty and the Beast movie is a good remake, very faithful to the original (more so than the Jungle Book remake was) and they nailed pretty much every song and major story beat. A couple of flat deliveries on some moments I like in the original movie, but other than that I very much enjoyed it.

The new season of Samurai Jack is really good so far.
|
Wait, there’s a new season?
|
Yep, the ads about it were everywhere
|
Yes. On Adult Swim.
|
I just saw the first episode of MP100. I love it so much.
Does anyone have any anime recs? |

Also me and a dear friend watched Your Name at the cinema when it was out here. We were crying a "little" loud all the time, from the beginning to the end. When the movie finished, everyone in the hall were like us: crying desperately or firm and traumatized. I wasn't actually crying because I can't somehow anymore (not joking, even when I feel to I cant do it), but if I could I would for sure. It was a great movie. Should buy the book soon. |

Arrival.
The whole point of the film is a mystery so I won't spoil it. But frigging loved it. Absolutely stellar. |
Legion. Drugs, superpowers, mind jumping. What is the real 'real world' in that one. :monster:
Just waiting to see last cliffhanger episode of first season. Other than that just had been watching TV shows like The Weakest Link, Who Wants To Be Millionaire... |
I was just watching Power Rangers on Netflix. With the movie coming out, I was curious.
|
So they released the Season 3 Premiere of Rick and Morty unannounced on April Fools Day. Crazy bastards.
It was incredible. Probably the best episode yet. The writing is beyond amazing at this point. |
Welp, I gotta start that series as soon as possible
|
I watched Trolls last night. Everything looked like it was made from felt, plush, glitter n neon colors just thrown up all over. Which on one hand makes me think about how far dreamworks and pixar have come in making textures n stuff.
I also thought of how everyone used to collect those troll dolls when i was a kid, those were creepy. Everyone else in the room really enjoyed it. Then there was that Gorillaz song in the movie which was cool |
Dunno if anyone else is watching SS-GB, but if you get the chance, definitely watch it. It's a crime thriller in the vein of Fatherland and Dominion. Britain loses Battle of Britain, Nazis invade the south of England, executed Churchill, the British Empire capitulates. The themes of the story are quite poignant, and it's interesting note all the background fluff that's happening behind the story; a bureau of genetics is set up in Whitehall in the first episode, by the third the Jews are being forced to wear yellow stars, presumably in preparation for their deportation to Germany so as to be gasses. If you liked The Man in the High Castle, you'd probably enjoy this British twist.

I saw Power Rangers and thought it was almost not bad. I expected to hate all of the characters but I didn't. Given that the movie is 90% character driven that was important. There were almost no scenes of Power Rangers punching things. Other than the training montage there actually isn't any action until the end.
e: spoilers ahead I actually thought the setup story about Zordon coming to Earth in the time of the dinosaurs and getting betrayed by one of the rangers on his team sounded like a much more interesting story than 5 teen outcasts learning to be friends. There are a lot of weird things about the movie. They keep telling us that they can't morph without completely explaining why. I didn't feel satisfied when they finally did. Giving Zordon an ulterior motive to train them had a hamfisted conclusion, and the scene where Blue morphed to break up a fight was never explored or explained. You know what would have been a great way to show us that they couldn't work as a team? Have a fight scene where they lose. Then build up to a fight scene that they win. If you're writing a garbage movie with gratuitous Krispy Kreme product placements don't try to reinvent the wheel, just hit those solid ABCs. When the fucking finally morph the first thing they do is fight underwater. Who decided that was a good idea? I was ready for some rangers to punch some fools but instead they do some synchronized swimming? And I didn't rate the treatment of Goldar. I really like the original design of Goldar (or his Japanese equivalent). He has that monster face, big shoulders, the wings. He's bulky and imposing. In the new movie he's lanky as fuck and doesn't have a face. And then the megazord is also lanky as fuck. So the ultimate robot battle at the conclusion is 5 seconds of awkward lanky fuckery then they just stab him. All I really wanted from this movie was a dude in a monster costume fighting a dude in a cardboard box robot suit in a miniature city. Thankfully the Power Rangers series still exists, and is still an awkward combination of dubbed Japanese footage and shitty English speaking actors with boxy robots and fun choreography. I don't know what I think of this movie. I guess I just wanted them to go in a totally different direction. Right now this movie felt bland, despite doing the characters much better than I expected. I would have loved for them to take a risk and make the movie colourful and fun. I think people could really get behind a camp, slightly self-aware Power Rangers movie with a dude in a boxy robot suit and swoop sound effects when the rangers move their arms. They could have made a really fun movie but still targeted it at people like me who grew up watching the show. Either way I did enjoy it, and of all the trashy reboots lately I think this movie will be remembered for being fun to make fun of, and for not feeling lazy like certain other films. |
I don't know if books count, but I've been reading Warhammer's Realmgate Wars series and it's pretty good. It does get confusing in some areas, but other than that it reads well. I do wish they would make their books easier to understand for casual readers who know nothing of the lore yet though. I'm seasoned with Warhammer lore but others are not and the books often seem to believe that everyone who picks them up should know everything. I know it would take time to explain it ALL, but maybe just slow down and explain what's in the current book, just a little. Then it might be all that much easier for me to get friends into Warhammer with me.

Just binge watched the new season of Samurai Jack eps1-9 one late night on yt! It's been pretty awesome(basically had everything my 13 year old self would have wanted for it, for better or worse :p ). I did enjoy it and both look forward to and dread reaching the final ep.
Edit: Just saw the last episode. Long story short without spoilers, I liked it..... |
