So, scrab model (and also paramite) will be in Abe's Oddysee HD?
Just had a thought - If there is going to be a Vita version, what will the controls be Gamespeak wise? I hope you don't go the touch screen route, but if so, perhaps use the Back Touch Screen for one type of command and the Front for the other? Kind of like L2 and L1 in AE/AO.
I'd prefer how I had it set up on the PSP, hold the analogue stick up to do one type of command, and down to do the other type, but whatever :3 |
I don't realy see the point of showing us crappy placeholders animations... ok it's fun but not realy relevant to the finished product.
:
I think the scrabs and paramites may get another look for AHD, not too sure at this point though. |
'another look' = redesigned? Like the production art images for the film that confused us a few years ago?
Please no! I don't want them to look like this:

That said, if there was a new creature that looked like that, I wouldn't mind.
Those aren't Paramites.
Ok perfect, that's sorted out...
The general appearance of paramites and scrabs are just as iconic as the rest of the original games anyway, everybody knows it'd be silly to even consider re-designing them.
Do NOT change any of the creatures! I will cry if you do :(
Lorne always imagined Sligs having pig hair, and they were only bald because of how hard it was to render hair at the time. We haven't got an answer from him on whether he'd like to see that in Abe HD, but I for one would love to at least try it.
You mean a wirey & bristly like mane running down their heads and necks? Funnily enough, I can see that working. Hardcore fans may not warm to that idea though.
I don't know the details; but I know it from this podcast: http://www.oddworldforums.net/showth...air#post342948
I don't mean redesign, stop panicking. I mean perhaps up the poly count, or the normal map detail. See if we can get some subsurface specularity on that mother.
I support the idea of designing the creatures to how they were originally intended, as long as they don't look worse than the look we're used to. I'd love for Lorne's original vision to come to light as much as possible.
MeechMunchie to the rescue!
http://img19.imageshack.us/img19/153/hairyslig.png I, for one, support the idea, provided the longer hairs are kept to the back like real pigs. Sligs are supposed to be the unhygenic slackers of Oddworld, so I think a bit of straggly body hair would be good. Also the "Slug/Pig" thing would finally make sense. |
:
RE: Slig hair, I’d be okay with it providing it was subtle and didn’t change the look of the Sligs as they are now. Really fine body hair on the arms and spine would be an appropriate look for them. |

I don't really like the idea of hairy sligs. Maybe if their hair is very fine and patchy (finer and patchier than MeechMunchie's interpretation), then I'd be okay. Since Sligs evolved from swamp-dwelling creatures, I can't see the need for hair, other than perhaps as some kind of sensory organ. You could argue that pigs are hairy mud-dwellers, but pigs are actually very clean animals by nature and only lie in mud to cool off and keep nits at bay. Also, besides the correlation between pigs/cops, I think it's safe to say that Sligs in no way resemble pigs. Nor should they.
I always imagined Sligs evolved from some fleshier offshoot of mud bugs, more amphibian/crustacean in nature than mammal. |
Here is my personal interpretation of Slig hair:
http://i.imgur.com/I6MTB.png Basically, really fine, confined to the backs of the arms/shoulders and the spine/back area, and dark and oily. But subtle, so the original design is still there. |
Yeah, fine and patchy would be the way to go, I love the idea of smaller scale hair as opposed to a full-blown yeti-Slig.
Skychase has the right idea.

Yeti-Slig, good idea for DLC?
He's disguised as a bush to trip up escapees.

http://www.stargazingfarm.org/images.../tets-hair.jpg Farming pigs have finer hair, but it still grows up in a ridge along their back. :

EDIT: Since we're all posting pictures, I always thought that since Sligs have a tail, they probably evolved from some slug/eel/tadpole/shrimp/newt/Anomalocaris thing. Tentacles for sifting through mud, finned tail, semi-prehensile forelimbs for pushing through water plants etc. http://img651.imageshack.us/img651/1738/sjkjfgjk.png |
Made some minor changes. The Eyes are now dark (they were too light) and I fixed the finger nails and added a more shiny feel to them, compensated by a little shading around the fingers as such. I also added the dark hair as you can see, not a very good edit but I still like it.

Also, http://www.nationalforestlawblog.com/feral%20pig.jpg @Spiderman This isn't a 'Design-a-Slig' competition. I just made mine to illustrate a point and to give a visual reference for people to base their suggestions on ("Finer than that" etc). More to the point, that looks a bit silly. YOUR INTERPRETATION IS WRONG |
