I didn't see it as a film about ballet but about a ballerina that is going a bit loony and having fucked up dreams.

Wings of Fire 05-20-2011 04:27 PM

I loved Black Swan.

I didn't care for Black Swan. Everyone was telling me how fucking tits it was. I saw it, and I just kept asking myself "Why do I care about this? Who gives a fuck about ballet?"

Why do I care about this? Who gives a fuck about steamers?

Why do I care about this? Who gives a fuck about fish?

Why do I care about this? Who gives a fuck about lions?

Why do I care about this? Who gives a fuck about newspapers?

Why do I care about this? Who gives a fuck about _____?

Sekto Springs 05-20-2011 04:47 PM

To be fair, I didn't like Titanic or Finding Nemo. The Lion King was a retelling of Hamlet, and you can't really cite William Randolph Hearst's fictional counterpart's rise to grace and censorship of major media as something people didn't care about.

Once again I'm speaking comparatively. Black Swan was very well-made, but I didn't feel very invested in it at all, and I went in really wanting to be.

Mr. Bungle 05-20-2011 04:50 PM

Aw, come on, man. Finding Nemo was great, as with most Pixar films. It was overrated, but still great.

Sekto Springs 05-20-2011 04:52 PM

It's one of my least favorite Pixar films. I don't know if anything will top Cars in that category, though Cars 2 is shaping up to be a good candidate.

Rex Tirano 05-20-2011 04:58 PM

I never liked Cars. I just found it childish and annoying. Regardless I'll probably watch Cars 2 at the cinema.

Monsters Inc. on the other hand. Now that was a great movie. I'm not sure about the sequel though, it sounds a bit rubbish atm to me.

I still want to see Black Swan.

My point was that you shouldn't be judging a movie on its subject, but rather the way it's presented. Sure, if Aronofsky couldn't get you interested in the movie that's a legit criticism, but just saying "who the fuck cares" sounds kind of shallow.

But anyway I think I maybe read too much into your post, so I'll shut up now.

Sekto Springs 05-20-2011 05:11 PM

To clarify I was dismissing the protagonist's obsession, not the viewer of the movie. The curtness of my remark was mostly in jest. I meant that I felt Nina was too unrelatable, at least for me. Sorry for coming off like a jerk.

Because at least At Worlds End was fun.

I disagree. I found it overlong and too talky.

Dead Man's Chest was silly, but had some fun actions scenes. Not enough Jack though.

Strike Witch 05-20-2011 07:18 PM

I liked the first film, second film bores me, and the third, well, I've never actually bothered to sit through it.

Mr. Bungle 05-21-2011 11:13 AM

I enjoyed all the Pirates movies. But I don't have the best taste in film, so I shouldn't be talking.

Emesdee 05-22-2011 12:25 PM

Watched Assault Girls and it was boring as hell. Barely over an hour long, but man, if you ever wanted to see how they can make three girls and a hobo killing giant sandworms a chore, this is the movie for you.

Havoc 05-22-2011 01:54 PM

Went to Pirates 4. Very nice movie, stayed mostly true to the first three but I couldn't help feeling like something is missing, though I'm not entirely sure what it was.

Most likely Keira and Orlando Bloom. Or so I read...

Wings of Fire 05-22-2011 10:14 PM

Missing something usually entails a negative impact, dear.

Nate 05-23-2011 03:36 AM

It's probably just related to the issue of promoting the comedy sidekick to lead character.

I can miss the acting performance of Orlando Bloom like a bad headache, thank you very much.

Nate 05-23-2011 03:46 AM

I never had a problem with Orlando Bloom. I mean, the writing of his character sucked balls, but he did pretty well with what he'd been handed.

Ridg3 05-23-2011 03:50 AM

As long as Barbossa and Sparrow are in it it'll be watchable if not great.

Are you suggesting it suffers from Joey syndrome?

Ha! Yes.

The other comparison I've heard (from a friend who read it in a Something Awful review) was Jeff Goldblum trying to be heroic in the second Jurassic Park movie.

Mr. Bungle 05-25-2011 01:31 PM

I saw the new Pirates movie. I thought it was alright. Nothing amazing, but not bad. I felt it was inferior to the first three, though, mainly due to the lack of interesting characters. Decent adventure/action movie though, I guess.

Disgruntled Intern 05-25-2011 01:48 PM

I finally got around to watching Fringe. It still seems like The X Files for kids who are too stupid to appreciate how awesome The X Files actually were for its time, but my god, does Walter Bishop tickle my funny bone. Especially when he says ass. I pretty much half-watch the show for him. I don't really care about much else that goes on.

CrissCross 05-26-2011 11:33 PM

I remember seeing unstoppble at the movies with some friends
at the start we hated it and then it got really intense

i definitely reccomend it

Sekto Springs 05-27-2011 05:59 AM

I finally saw Clive Barker's Midnight Meat Train.
I enjoyed it, though I felt Barker's unmistakable "grittiness" kind of fell short because of the sterile color grading and the CGI gore. Then again, he didn't direct it.
Also I wish the weird barnacles Mahogany was cutting off his chest and storing in jars was explained, but it never was. When that scene came up I couldn't help but think of Cousin Sven's "Yar of Speet".

Dynamithix 05-27-2011 08:15 AM

Midnight Meat Train was ok. Saw it a few weeks ago.

Hangover Part II

I seem to be in the minority thinking it was funnier than the first. The plot was essentially the same though, just switch a few characters and a setting. Glad to see that Chou had a bigger part in this one, and Zach Galifanakas was hilarious.

Dynamithix 05-28-2011 05:42 AM

I also saw Hangover 2, and I also thought it was funnier than the first one.

It was absolutely hilarious and I had a great time watchin' it with my friends.

"Alan, stop crying!"

metroixer 05-30-2011 08:09 PM

Been watching Arrested Development. Good stuff, watch it if you like laughing at dumb rich people.

T-nex 05-31-2011 03:08 AM

I saw the movie Limitless... It was... interesting I suppose.

I also have been watching th show called The Event. It's not bad at all. Too bad they sort of canceled it.

Manco 05-31-2011 05:08 AM

Saw the new PotC last night.

I liked it, it was much more straightforward than the first three, and lot more fast-paced. Didn't like how many supernatural things got crammed together into one plotline, but hey, it didn't ruin the movie.

Dynamithix 05-31-2011 05:11 AM

Has anyone seen Source Code? We're going to go watch it tomorrow with our class.

I saw that a couple weeks ago, I thought it was good up until the very end, felt underwhelming. We're supposed to believe that he somehow learns to regulate the drug's use but the movie never shows it, almost like a whole section of the movie was cut out and the audience is supposed to just accept that. Also his abuse of the drug didn't seem to have any long term consequence which felt off.

I saw Source Code. Another nice picture from Zowie Bowie, but not Moon standard. I was expecting a few more loops while he worked out who the bomber was. Like The Matrix Reloaded and/or Revolutions, don't expect to understand the ending perfectly first time. It'll probably be worth getting out on DVD to watch again.

I have. It was fine. Not life-changingly good, but a worthy way to spend an hour of your life. You'll wonder what happened to the teacher guy though.

Disgruntled Intern 05-31-2011 12:10 PM

In the past week I have watched season one and season two of Jersey Shore. Dorian has been wanting to see it because so many people seem to enjoy it despite the premise being a bunch of trash being trash while doing trashy things. So I added the seasons to our netflix queue but secretly kept pushing them down to the bottom every time we/I added something new.

Then motherfucking netflix decided to add this shit into their instant streaming pile of crap, so it magically shows up in our instant queue, and Dorian is like, "Hey, whee, we just sent back our fist-full 'o movies, let's watch Jersey Shore!".

So we did. It wasn't as bad I was predicting, but still pretty god damned horrible.

T-nex 05-31-2011 12:16 PM

I watched some of the Jersey Shore episodes.... I like such shows for some reason... They are like a special sort of train wreck.... Dunno, I just find satisfaction in seeing such people make fools of themselves. And all that delicious drama.

Yea.. Guilty pleasures.

Disgruntled Intern 05-31-2011 12:22 PM

The worst part about it is that not everyone on the show is completely horrible. Or would be, if they were isolated, or at least not spending time with those other morons. The little orange one with the jugs seems like a sweet kid that's just caught up in some stupid fad, and the quiet one, uh, Vinny, he seemed alright. The rest? Man, just pathetic people.

Dynamithix 06-01-2011 03:52 AM

I saw Source Code today. Thought it was okay. A bit repetitive if you know what I mean, heheh.

T-nex 06-03-2011 06:58 AM

Saw Logan's Run.... Probably the weirdest moviewith the weirdest acting I've ever seen O_o

But I liked it :3
