The Tree Huggers and Land Muggers art are promotional images for Munch's Oddysee, so it would naturally feature them.

I can understand your confusion. A lot of fans made the connection between the 'play as different sides' aspect and the 'Tree Huggers vs. Land Muggers' early promotional concept for Munch's Oddysee. This has been a frustration to me for years, because outwardly Oddworld Inhabitants never married the two.

In an early Dear Alf, Alf mentioned that Hand of Odd would feature 3 competing sides. In fact, I've seen designs that had 5.

Jbot123 01-04-2013 02:35 PM

I didn't know they were for Munch. Could you tell us what the sides were? You got me interested. Also, what's your avatar/icon/profile photo thing?

Wil 01-04-2013 02:59 PM

I'm not going to give it away fully, but back when there were three sides, they were Glukkons, Native Mudokons and a faction based on the same inspiration behind Outlaws, although at the time they were called Meetles (the name of which in turn went on to be inherited by something else again).

In the five-sided concept I've read, three of the sides were Native Mudokons, Glukkons and Vykkers. A fourth side was yet another version of the Outlaws idea going by yet another name.

Bullet Magnet 01-04-2013 03:06 PM

Was there a faction representing interests we haven't seen in a game so far?

If you say "no," I'm assuming clakkers.

Wil 01-04-2013 03:23 PM

Yes.

Clakkerz didn't exist at the time.

Paradise.

Bullet Magnet 01-05-2013 06:26 AM

So the fifth side must have been a race of violent nerd revolutionaries. That seems most likely.

You're thinking of a different upcoming Oddworld story.

Do tell:fuzconf:

Nepsotic 01-05-2013 08:38 AM

I think it was a joke.

STM 01-05-2013 08:40 AM

Squeek is a nerd. He wears glasses and programmes in C++.

Jbot123 01-05-2013 08:40 AM

darn. just darn. What is Wil's icon, rejected live ammo, or a fan character? Are there any other rejected ammo types?

What makes C++ such a nerdy programming language?

What makes C++ such a nerdy programming language?

Probably the fact it's a programming language.

Jbot: http://www.oddworldforums.net/showth...ine#post540795

Varrok 01-05-2013 09:02 AM

But STM was specific about this one language

Wil 01-05-2013 09:26 AM

He was also specific about glasses, which many nerds don't wear, and programming, which many nerds don't do.

Varrok 01-05-2013 09:31 AM

I don't know anything about nerds anymore

Bullet Magnet 01-05-2013 09:41 AM

Nerds secrete a volatile substance called poindextrose.

Varrok 01-05-2013 09:50 AM

Thanks, now I posses a bit of knowledge about nerds! :)

Are there any pictures of what birds (from Oddworld,of course) look like up close? All I can make out is a white cylinder with wings.

Nepsotic 01-05-2013 11:54 AM

That might be due to hardware limitations.

Bullet Magnet 01-05-2013 12:09 PM

Some species are unipedal, and caudal feathers emanate from their parietal.

I don't think any good picture of those bids exists, at least I never saw one.
Same thing for the bats.

Phylum 01-07-2013 01:37 AM

Were they rendered from models like everything else? Higher quality versions probably exist somewhere.

The bats were one pixel wide most of the time, so I don't know they would have bothered rendering those.

Scrabaniac 01-09-2013 08:11 AM

Bats just pissed me off all together

Bullet Magnet 01-09-2013 03:23 PM

I once drew how I imagined them to be taking their utter lethality into account. They had one foot and their face looked like that of the offspring of a paramite and a viperfish. I labelled all the pointy bits "venomous".

Vyrien 01-09-2013 04:14 PM

I used to believe that chanting in one place for long enough would drive them away, so I'd stand there in Scrabania for hours trying to get the damn bat out from under the ledge.

STM 01-10-2013 08:08 AM

Aye, there were bits in the Free-Fire Zone where if you waited long enough some of the bats would vanish.

Nepsotic 01-10-2013 10:09 AM

Yeah, but don't some just fly off on their own?

Wil 01-10-2013 11:05 AM

Yeah, if you wait long enough. Nothing to do with chanting. The only way I know of to move bats is with rocks... and it's not exactly reliable.
