Havoc 10-24-2011 07:47 AM

I already put a sign on the notice wall a while ago that people should light up their roofs if possible. Guess noone saw that.

Wil 10-24-2011 07:59 AM

I'm going to assume Phylum lit my roof adequately.

DarkHoodness 10-24-2011 07:34 PM

I've been playing around with MC edit for the first time today - As I've said before, when Minecraft 1.0 gets released, I'm thinking we should start a new map but import our structures (or rather, the entire chunks that they're on - meaning we can keep what's under them too) across to it. That way we get to keep what we've built, but we'll be able to find mushroom biomes, snow biomes (which don't exist in 1.8) and hopefully strongholds out in the wilderness - Although it'll be at the cost of our existing wilderness.

MC edit is a little tricky to use but it is quite possible to transfer our stuff across to a new map - With a little extra work, it's also possible to carefully blend out the seams between old and new chunks too.

EDIT: However there is the small problem of 1.7 sea level being 1 square higher than 1.8 sea level. Also underground - You'll find 1.8 ravines being suddenly blocked off with a huge wall where it meets an old chunk - Sometimes with a 1.7 cave system making holes throughout that wall. I think that's a small price to pay for being able to have the new features in the wilderness, though.

The nether is editable as well, BTW - So we'll also be able to keep parts of that. Oh, and any chests that get imported from an old world will keep their contents. Same goes for signs. Player inventories can't be kept though - So people would have to deposit their stuff into chests before the new map is made.

Mudokon_Master 10-24-2011 10:25 PM

Havoc will have to do it since he has the level.dat file. Does he know how to use MC Edit? I know it can get really frustrating at times.

DarkHoodness 10-24-2011 10:36 PM

Files can be transferred between people and I think the level files are only 200 or 300 MB or so - The file I'd send back would be a bit smaller, probably 50 MBs or so. Since I have a high attention to detail and lots of time on my hands, I'd be quite happy to do it if we went through with this, and it shouldn't take more than a day or so to put together. (nor would I leave it like I've left the OWF tour vids - I have bandwidth issues this month, I'll upload the rest in November)

Still, gotta wait for 1.0 to come out next month first. :P And of course people may not agree with this idea.

Manco 10-24-2011 11:20 PM

I’d be happy with putting the current structures into a new map if it means being able to see the new terrain without a day’s hike.

Are you planning on just cutting and pasting the entire map as-is, or are you going to blend Genesis and Exoddus into a single mega-town?

DarkHoodness 10-24-2011 11:59 PM

I was thinking of keeping the majority of the Genesis area as it is, minus the large areas of wilderness where we've only built temp exploratory structures - And same with Exodduss. Then I'd situate the two areas near (2-3 minutes sprint away connected via a road or minecart rail), but not right next to each other.

Maybe I'd keep some wilderness - For example the view from Rob and Nikki's little hut that they made.

Mudokon_Master 10-25-2011 12:27 AM

Sounds good to me. I have no objections if you're up to the task.

Splat 10-25-2011 11:14 AM

Sounds like a good plan to me; seeing mushroom biomes and having access to Nether Ruins seems worth it. It'd be good if we could get a desert biome for Exoddus again.

Also, glad my misfortune at the gate didn't cause you too much sorrow.

Oh, and Crash, do you want me to do the rest of the walls/windows in the temple or do you want to do them? Is there anything else you'd particularly like to build or add to it (yourself, or just generally)?

DarkHoodness 10-25-2011 02:57 PM

Crash, I accidently blew up the ground floor of your house when a creeper followed me into it while I was exploring the town (disadvantage of your piston doors). I put everything back but you may want to check that I've done it correctly.

But yeah, we really need to light up the town a bit more...

Crashpunk 10-26-2011 01:28 AM

What is it with you, Creepers and my house XD I swear you blew up part of my house in Genesis too.

Splat 10-26-2011 10:26 AM

*Cough* My previous post, Crashpunk *cough*

Crashpunk 10-26-2011 01:30 PM

I read your post :)

I've finished the walls of the temple, Here's some screenshots.

http://img200.imageshack.us/img200/6...1026205334.png

I also added some Vines to give it more of a Zelda-like style to it. I'm also adding a path to the main cobblestone path

http://img254.imageshack.us/img254/5...1026205223.png

EDIT: This post makes my Sig spaz out?

DarkHoodness 10-26-2011 03:13 PM

I fixed the creeper damage to the temple.

Also I kind of lied when I posted the message on the town hall board about the wall being complete - I only just finished it today. Only the gates left to go, and I've already excavated and lined the redstone rooms for two more of them while completing the towers (minus the windows).

lloyd 10-26-2011 04:19 PM

why do some peoples screenshots have thin 2d clouds? is this an option setting or something from an old minecraft.exe?

DarkHoodness 10-26-2011 04:25 PM

There's an option in Minecraft for people who have slower PCs. The "Fast" option makes clouds 2D and does away with a few other features to make Minecraft run a bit faster.

My 7 year old PC still couldn't really handle it properly though.

Crashpunk 10-26-2011 04:25 PM

My Graphics are on 'Fast' The clouds change between blocks with 'Fancy' graphics and flat in 'Fast' graphics.

EDIT: Posted that exactly the same time :tard:

Mudokon_Master 10-26-2011 11:09 PM

On fancy the leaves aren't transparent, the sides of grass blocks are of different hue as the top, the clouds are 2d and the rain makes no noise.

Crashpunk 10-27-2011 05:27 AM

Your mixed up MM. on Fancy Graphics Leaves are transparent and the Clouds are blocks.

I don't want to do a picture difference here!

Mudokon_Master 10-27-2011 10:29 PM

On fancy...
I meant fast :P

When did MM post?

Mudokon_Master 10-27-2011 10:38 PM

Indeed. For I am M_M!
The dude whose name looks like an emoticon!

Mudokon_Master 10-27-2011 11:17 PM

It never used to O.o

Phylum 10-27-2011 11:49 PM

Times have changed, man. Things ain't like they used to be.

DarkHoodness 10-28-2011 08:07 AM

The wall is very nearly complete - While spending the afternoon watching 'net TV in the background, I've laid down some pathways leading a small way out of each entrance and illuminated them. Four out of six gate mechanisms are now complete and I should have the remaining two done by tomorrow.

Question: Should I make a 7th gate along the east section of wall, opposite the original portal entry building?

Splat 10-28-2011 11:49 AM

Aye. Also, is there a way out through the back of your fortress?

DarkHoodness 10-28-2011 03:07 PM

Nope. Unless you jump off the ramparts into the moat and climb out via the ladders I placed there. It might hurt a bit though.

DarkHoodness 10-29-2011 06:38 AM

*double posts* Guess people are bored with Minecraft now since the server has always been empty every time I checked over the past 3 days...

For those of you who can't have full view distance, here are some shots of the current view of Exoddus from the tower:

Crashpunk 10-29-2011 09:10 AM

It's really impressive what we have done to this desert in this amount of time.

Splat 10-29-2011 09:57 AM

In the context of a Dark Tower, 'Tower' should be capitalised. Peasant.

:p

We have created a thing of beauty; I shall deny it not.
I was thinking actually about ways of making a street-map of Exoddus. I've seen a hacked map that had a 1:1 ratio of blocks to map pixels. I imagine it's a big thing not worth doing, but I was wondering if there's any way Bukkit or Bucket or whatever it is could easily provide such a thing.
We could make an Exoddus town hall map room into a map of the city, maybe.

Also, street-names.

Also, those meteors are becoming a concern.

Crashpunk 10-29-2011 10:13 AM

What's with the flaming Neather rack in the third picture?

DarkHoodness 10-29-2011 12:08 PM

A meteor landed in the desert. ;)

I'm not bored with Minecraft… just with 1.8.1.

Phylum 10-29-2011 02:54 PM

I don't generally log on unless there's someone else on the server.

There's a bukkit plugin called MapClone that had a recent update that allows maps to have their scale set during a pre-set time after creation (E.G: A map can have its scale altered for 30 seconds after creation. After that 30 seconds, scale is permanent). I think this grace period is optional, but not entirely sure.

Here's how to scale:
:

To scale a map just hold the map you want to scale in your hands and do: /mzoom [closest|close|normal|far|farthest|1-5] . To configure it just go into your plugins folder into the folder named "MapClone" and edit settings.ini.

To my knowledge, the 'Closest' setting is 1:1.

Screenshot attached of me with a 'closest' map on a different server.
