I watched Rec last night (the movie Quarantine is a remake of, I think). It's what Diary of the Dead should've been. jolly good.
|
Saw Quantum of Solace last night. Quite good. No where near as good as Casino Royale though. I don't know how memorable it was.
|
I saw Madagascar 2 tonight, it was a choice between that and QOS and my gf chose the former, I must say I am pleasently surprised ^^ it was very good and the jokes were, admitedly cliched at times but pulled off with considerable charm :). A very fulfilling evening.
|
Madagascar is one of the few of those animated movies I like (apparently I have no soul), so I wouldn't mind checking out the sequel.
|
I watched Bridge to Tarabithia, yesterday. Apparently it's in my daughters list of favorite movies. It was not what I expected. I thought it would be a standard, "kids stumble upon alternate fanciful dimension and save it through the power of love" film. It was not that. It was actually a rather sad film, and in better hands might have been something special.

In the last couple weeks I've seen a bunch of old films for the first time.
Austin Powers 1 & 2- Fairly funny, not hysterical. 2nd one did repeat some of the same jokes which was disappointing. Under Siege- Decent enough 1 man army action romp, but felt like it was trying to be Die Hard but on a ship. Bruce Willis would've been better in the lead. Tommy Lee Jones was awesome in his role. The Usual Suspects- Can't say enough good stuff about this film, possibly my favourite ever gangster movie. The twist you could see coming, but it was still very well executed. Superb film, really superb. Plus I finally know where "The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world that he didn't exist" comes from. Watching SWAT tonight, I know little about it other than there's a SWAT Team involved.... |
The best thing about The Usual Suspects is Benicio Del Toro as Fenster. The rest of the movie I could do without.
|
Not Japanese Pete Postlethwaite?
Saw SWAT the other night. Very meh. The twists were coming a mile away, and were basically as cliche as possible. Also i reckon the lead guy's partner was in the right during the events at the start of the film, which made it hard to feel sympathy for the lead during the interaction in the middle of the film. Not a bad film, but not one I'd seek out to watch again. |

Saw another film tonight. Blade Runner. The FInal Cut Edition as well. And wow. It was so disappointing. I'd heard so much about it being this ultra amazing film full of mystique and pathos, but to me it was poor. Very poor. Plot was a great idea and when you read it on Wikipedia it sounds great, but it was so poorly executed in the film. Felt like 80 minutes of story stretched into 2 hours. Characters weren't really fleshed out much, I'd have preferred if the backstory had been actually explained by a character or shown briefly at the start rather than in the text monologue format. One of the biggest letdowns I've ever known with a film. It had good ideas and messages, but didn't convey them well and the film was just not captivating at all. Huge disappointment, and I really wanted to like it as well. |
I'm watching every single episode of Southpark. Up to season 4 now... now I remember why I thought South Park was so hilarious when I was like 8. I also understand why my parents threw a fit every time me and friends put it on XD.
BEEFCAKE! BEEEEEEFCAKE! |
I just watched the three episodes of Survivors that have been shown so far. It certainly is a spooky world with ~99.5% of the world's population decomposing where they fell.

I'd rather find the original series though first, so I can compare them. |
I just saw some unreleased film today (my Video professor gets exclusive shit because he's all big-wiggy.... love him). It was called Slumdog Millionaire and it was about these two kids from India. By the director Trainspotting.
It was mad good actually, really fucked up. Does not bode well for the Indian tourism market, and oddly enough, it has that M.I.A. song in it. Hmm. |

________________________ I just saw Role Models. Surprisingly hilarious. Like, I seriously thought it would suck reaaaly bad. |
Well, it was disappointing. Expected an epic, got something resemblnig those old French films with no plot and fin. at the end. Johnny Mnemonic was better and that felt rushed.
Anywho, saw The Delat Force on Monday, with Chuck Norris. Absurdly cheesy and cliche 80s action film. Reasonably entertaining but daft beyond belief. Good for a grin thuogh. I know wnant to see the sequels, to see if they can up the cheese factor. Thing was, they got in every cliche excpet the biggest one- the salute! He didn't salute cheesily as the plane took off at the end! WHY DIDNT YOU SALUTE, CHUCK, WHYYYY??? |

Also BM, thanks for that iPlayer info. |
Last night, my little nephew had us all watching friggin' 'Rudolph'. It was almost an hour and half, I couldn't bare it. The only good thing about it was that Monty Python's Eric Idle voiced a character.
It did make me laugh though. I was a little bit tipsy, so I don't know if this is an accurate recount, but I'm almost certain that Rudolph's father said that he was an accident. Now, that is worthy of a laugh. But God save us from little nephews. I hope I never have to sit through that again. I do bring good news though. 'Rab C. Nesbitt' returns on Tuesday, 9pm on BBC 2! I have a feeling it may be a repeat, but I never saw that promo when the show first came about in the 90's, so it's likely to be new. |
With me being sickly, I watched Iron Man the Face/Off
1st) Iron Man is superb and has made me become re-interested in Super Hero films, (which died when I watched Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer) 2nd)Face/Off couldn't be any more of a John Woo film even it tried and was all the bitter for it :D Imagine Strangleghold but with white people if you haven't seen it |
I'm pretty sure it's Face/off not The Face off :)
|
I saw The Assassination Of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford the other day. Long title. Longer movie. But it was fantastic. I loved every second of it. Casey Afflek is a thousand times the actor his brother is.

I saw 'The Curious Case of Benjamin Button' the other day. Very good film. It's good to see Brad Pitt making movies that are worth watching, again. |
