The new update for SSX went live this morning and it added a 'Freeride' mode where you can ride down the complete mountains with no time limit or HUD in your way and it also added an actual multiplayer mode called "3-2-1-Go!" which is basically a quick race where you get into a helicopter with three other players and it drops you off to a random hill and it's a race to the end. I like that because the game didn't have an actual multiplayer component in it, it used to be just leaderboards and defeating friends' records but now it has a competitive mode where players can simultaneously play.

Yeah, I like that.

I'm mostly playing as the Mac and Elise characters, trying to max out their levels and get the best possible equipment/suits for them but damn it's hard to get to level 11...

Crashpunk 08-09-2012 03:01 AM

I've just beat Killzone and I enjoyed most of it. I do have a few nitpicks though so here I go. I found the story to be pretty average and the combat was kinda stiff (well what would you except from a console fps lololol). But what really pissed me off was you could only melee attack if you had ammo in your gun. Who invented that logic?

Apart from that it was a fun, enjoyable shooter. It had the sort of enjoyment you get from Half-Life 2 where you just shoot everyone in sight. The characters were pretty interesting and I like how you can play as all four of them and each one has different weapons and abilities. The graphics were great for a PS2 game as well, They reminded me of Metal Gear Solid's graphics.

So if you have a PS2, I recommend it. Then again if your a avid PS2 player, you'll probably already heard and played it. What I can gather it's a very popular game. I've also heard there are sequels for the PS3.

Beat the second Broken Sword game.

it was really fun, I love how clever the dialogue could be. Also less irritating puzzles than the first game.

Phylum 08-09-2012 03:26 AM

20 hours into KH:DDD and I think I may be at the end. I'm really not sure.

On the whole the worlds have been a bit disappointing. The story feels really forced and rushed with a tacky "believe in your hearts" message at the end. I don't really understand what they're doing differently to KH1 and 2, but it's not good. The overarching story is intriguing, although I thought it jumped the shark a bit at time travel. Everything from Xigbar/Braig appearing was really strange and Xigbar's dialogue was awful. There are no safe-areas in the worlds, which means that there are hardly any NPCs to interact with. The worlds feel empty and dead, which is really detrimental to a KH game.

The combat is still amazing. I'm playing on normal and feeling challenged. It's not uncommon for me to die facing the harder enemies. Carelessness will lead to death, unlike the Areal Recover spamfest of KH2. Ariel Recovery is still an ability, but you can no longer recover whenever you want and it's really hard to time. Flowmotion makes exploring really fun and some of the chests provide really useful commands to justify flying around. Some of the huge buildings in the last world were excellent to climb.

I'm about the clear the last world as Riku, although I have some leveling to do before I can take down the third consecutive boss. After Sora's boss for that world it just feels unfair to give Riku such a long slog without a save point. I realised after dieing 10 times on the third form that I may need more Curagas in my command deck, but changing that would involve leaving the fight and facing the first two forms again.

I'm a bit disappointing by some aspects of the game and it's not as perfect as I'd hoped, but it's still magnificent to play and I'm really enjoying it.

e: I cracked 3k posts and I didn't even notice. Oops.

Here's my recommendation: Unless you are in the middle of a conversation about a game where the name has been stated multiple times already, do not abbreviate the name to the point where most people have no clue what the fuck you are talking about.

A page ago is a page ago, and here we are with me still not knowing what game we are talking about. I refuse, I said refuse to go back, and look. Because I'm snotty, and I intend to stay that way.

They do light up, and they are in every area pretty much. And they can help you if you do get spotted, vents are a good way to disappear and lose attention.

And now I spend an unhealthy amount of time in vents.

Now that I’ve gotten used to the setup of the game I can safely say I’m enjoying the hell out of it. It’s a little weird to adjust to – it has a standard FPS control set and the tutorial “level” is all gung-ho action, but the meat of the game keeps you playing conservatively and encourages stealth over action.

It’s tense as hell though and I love it. Skulking behind some crates while you watch the patrol routes leaves you feeling vulnerable as all hell, and every so often you have to push yourself to take a risk and hope you don’t get spotted.

Started replaying Arkham Asylum last night after seeing Darknut Rises. Great game, probably the best superhero game I've played (not that the bar was exactly high before this came out) and it doesn't even really feel like a superhero game. But yeah, love beating the crap outta psychos and flinging from ledge to ledge on a grapple. Fun stuff

Mac Sirloin 08-10-2012 06:18 AM

Arkham Asylum got everything about the gameplay completely right, but it had the shittiest possible writing and dialogue for a AAA game. I don't expect anything particularly good from a Superhero game in general, but they went to the effort of getting all of these voice actors together and make a big stink about it being some great Batman-centric effort, but it was just trite and stupid. The sequel was worse.

I'm playing Final Fantasy XII because I had the sudden urge to. Holy crap, why didn't anyone tell me about this game? Lots of fun so far, pretty straightforward gameplay and the story is fairly interesting. I always find the naming Scheme that Square Enix puts into their games that take place in Ivalice (FF Tactics, Tactics Advance, Tactics Advance A:2 Grimoire of the long title, War of The Lions, all that garbage) sound kind of like curses or just dirty words. Basch. Vaan. Kyte. Ramza. Ritz. Hores (personal favourite). I have a bit of a hard time looking past the fact that every human is a well-toned super handsome fair haired person with perfect skin and the face of a 14 years old girl who speak with gravelly voices and talk about war. There's a lizard man played by John Dimaggio who makes up for many of these faults, and the gameplay itself is just excellent. I just have a hard time looking at any of these people without thinking I've stepped into the uncanny valley. They don't look like people any more. They look like Final Fantasy characters. This has been happening since X and it's lazy as hell.

I don't often see people being nice about FFXII. Can I ask you how far you are into the game at the moment? I feel like I haven't given the game a proper chance and may be due to the fact that I haven't played very far into it.

Wings of Fire 08-10-2012 01:50 PM

Oh, I got right up to the end of FFXII like six years ago and I loved every second.

Just saiyan.

You're certainly right, but I typically don't play video games for the writing. But yeah, lots of it, especially Batman, just seemed so damn generic. Plus the gameplay is so good I can forgive some shitty one-liners. Though, I found most of the voice acting in the game fantastic, especially Mark Hamill. Joker also had some fiarly decent lines himself.

Phylum 08-10-2012 04:07 PM

I beat the 3 boss uber-run in Kingdom Hearts 3D. It turns out it wasn't the end. There was a save point and then an even harder boss.

Up until now the pacing had been really good. Suddenly there's an immense difficulty spike. The boss isn't even fair in his attack patterns. He likes to chain together lots of long ranged attacks without letting you recover to heal. He likes to do just about anything without leaving you time to heal. I have some grinding to do.

OddjobAbe 08-11-2012 06:02 AM

My nephew has been going through some of my Playstation games from quite a few years ago, and pulled out Rayman 3. We played it together for a while, but I ended up spending probably over an hour on it when he left. I forgot I enjoyed it so much, however ridiculous it may be.

First game I've played for a while, actually. I find it hard now to play for more than an hour - as well as having to get stuff done, which has always been a problem, I just don't enjoy them as much as I used to.

Ridg3 08-12-2012 07:06 AM

I've encountered a pretty much game-breaking bug in Skyrim. I have the Dawnguard DLC and it's updated to date, on the 360 as well. So here's the problem; I was trouncing through a Tomb whenever a Draugr Death Overlord Cumsock Fus-ro-dah'd my ass across the room. Well, that initiated the "Death/Tossed cam" and whenever I got up the camera froze on that spot but I'm still able to run out of view of the camera. Sometimes the camera follows but only changes angles and locations to keep the character in view. It sucks ball. Hairy balls. And it's saddening me because my character is one sexy cunt.

Anybody else run into this problem, seen a solution online (I couldn't find any, but if anyone does they're allowed to call me a stupid cockwrangler) or anything I'd appreciate it. Don't ask me, though, to start at an earlier save... I don't do multiple save files for multiple characters. Too cluttery.

I finally killed Mom after 34 hours

Varrok 08-12-2012 11:19 AM

*claps slowly*

MeechMunchie 08-12-2012 11:20 AM

Is that a Mom's Heart kill?

Laser 08-12-2012 11:25 AM

Yes it was.

MeechMunchie 08-12-2012 11:31 AM

Well. Eight more 'til It Lives.

Laser 08-12-2012 11:32 AM

Fuck.

MeechMunchie 08-12-2012 12:12 PM

I won't go into how many times you'll have to defeat It Lives. I don't want to put you off.

Varrok 08-12-2012 12:25 PM

At this point you'll get used to him anyway

Strike Witch 08-13-2012 01:25 AM

Phantasy Star Online 2.

Or, kill things in space with cute girls.

Crashpunk 08-13-2012 03:32 AM

I've spent pretty much all of last week playing and learning the Minecraft Mod Tekkit. It's complex but damn it's fun. I can't go back to the plain old Minecraft now because Tekkit adds so much to the game.

Havoc 08-13-2012 03:35 AM

Same here, so fucking addicted to Tekkit now. So much to build, so much to do, so little time :(

Dynamithix 08-13-2012 04:14 AM

I bought Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective for the DS.

I'm now four chapters into the game and it's great fun. It's by the same people who made the Ace Attorney games I think. The animation of the characters is some of the best I've seen on the DS and I find the art style very cool. The characters themselves are pretty unique and funny too. 'Missile' the Pomeranian dog is the best character. I recommend this game if you like puzzles and a good plot.

Phylum 08-13-2012 04:24 AM

I finished the new Kingdom Hearts. The three boss run wasn't the end of the game, but the fifth consecutive boss was.

It's good fun. I recommend it. It lost pace a bit, but it really picks up towards the end. I wanted to finish it, which made the last few fights infuriatingly satisfying. I was a bit annoyed by how confusing the last phase of the final boss was and I felt unfairly killed by it the first ten times.

It's a good game. Go buy it, WoF.

Just in case anyone else has played it, what did you think of the Young Xehanort and time travel stuff? I don't really understand why that needed to happen. It just seemed like fluff between landing in the last world and the final sequence in The Castle that Never Was. The True Org XIII was a bit strange, too. How can Xehanort, Xemnas and Ansem Seeker of Darkness all be alive still? I was worried the story would get convoluted in this game and I feel like it did a bit. I'm still waiting eagerly for the next/final chapter.

OANST 08-13-2012 06:02 AM

Phylum plays Kingdom Hearts for the story. I just vomited in my mouth.

I started playing Darksiders again to prepare for the sequel. I forgot how much fun this game is. In fact, I think I like it better the second time around.

This is one of those rare times where I bought a JRPG and haven't spoiled the crap out of the plot beforehand. I'm still very early on, but I went in knowing that a lot of the faults people have with it are things I love in JRPG's (sperg my teammates into spreadsheets of action/reaction? Yes PLEASE). The plot is supposed to get pretty wacky, but I love all the war of the roses inspired setpieces too much to take issue with any bizarre intricacies the Ivalice games make with the plot. It's Final Fantasy, if shit don't get stupid at some point they didn't make it right.
I've been on a big sweaty JRPG bender all summer, so my opinion is very biased, but you should give it another shot anyway. If only to see how right they got a lot of the gameplay.

I'm also playing Tiny Tower on my phone. Fuck this game. I'm playing it right now. Fuckers only people with low career goals get to live in MY building.

Wish I still owned that game, really good. Have the 2nd one pre ordered and everything.

I finished Darksiders a few weeks ago. I love how badass the ending was. Shame the boss fight was WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too easy.

Started playing Alan Wake for the first time. I like it. The combat takes a bit of getting used to though.

You must really like trees. 'Cause there's lots of trees, and not much else. In fact, I think not naming it "Trees: The Game" was sort of false advertising.

I actually thought the presentation in Alan Wake was top notch. It's just too bad they were only presenting trees.

Do you have anything against trees? Trees are awesome.

OANST 08-13-2012 01:00 PM
