limbo 2: how low can you go

e: It isn’t actually a Limbo sequel.

:

The translation of the blurb from Danish to English reads “Playdeads second major project after the success of the game Limbo. Through unique puzzles and changing scenarios is told the story of a boy’s struggle against evil forces which through dubious experiments on human bodies, are trying to take over world. The game is in color and set in a 3D environment, while the gameplay is a 2D platforms.”

OANST 06-14-2012 10:35 AM

I'm interested.

Resistance as a franchise is a prime example of a game only getting attention for its exclusivity.

Last of Us looks amazing, makes me want a PS3.

What? Resistance is great. It's not a Halo killer in any capacity but it's a genuinely unique and fun game.

I think God of War is a better example. It's a boring, samey series with really exceptionally shitty writing and it's always a huge deal when a new one is released, when it ends up being pretty much the exact same game.

Hazel-Rah 06-14-2012 02:56 PM

Resistance is an okay series. I really got into the first one because it was my first 7th gen game but R2 is definitely the best in the series. It was the most ambitious: 60 player compeitive multiplayer, 12 player class-based co-op, and a 300 foot sea monster boss! Fun series but nothing to write home about.

The Last of Us looks pretty awesome but Uncharted is way more my cup of tea. I also feel like Naughty Dog is squandering a great opportunity to bring back Jak and Daxter. Sony will probably be marketing the PS3 more towards a younger demograph once the PS4 is out next year so this would be a good time to reintroduce Jak. Save the new IP for the PS4, they could've had the Last of Us ready to go in 2014, a year into the system's life cycle like they've always done. And I'm sure Sony would be game for it, they seem really eager to cash-in on mascots that have been MIA since the PS3 launched. (Playstation Move Heroes, etc.)

Damn. Well at least it looks pretty.

I was meh as hell on this game at first but if it's being done by the people who made Vanquish it should be pretty sweet.

Still totally would've preferred it bridging the gap between MGS2 and 4. I also don't like the idea of a game that takes place after MGS4 for some reason. The end of MGS4 just made me feel like a cycle was broken and there are too many untold stories in the current timeline as it is, don't pile brand new shit on yet!

Steamer_KING 06-15-2012 07:24 AM

MGS4 was shit, so that cycle was already broken. I'll wait for the demo...

Wings of Fire 06-15-2012 07:54 AM

MGS4 was the second best movie I've ever played.

One of those things only I like.

EDIT: Damn, I really need to start looking at page numbers.

Mr. Bungle 06-15-2012 08:12 AM

MGS4 was one of the worst games I ever played. Like other have said, it would have served better as a movie. It was definitely a game for Metal Gear fans, but for anyone who hasn't played the other games, it was just boring.

Gameplay was pretty fun when it was there, though.

Vanquish was sweet, and this game actually looks pretty good. I hope it isn't as cinematic as MGS4, from the looks of it it doesn't.

Dynamithix 06-16-2012 01:46 AM

So this is why the Payday devs and Valve are collaborating, it's a new Payday add-on but it's like a sort of a prequel to Left 4 Dead, happening in the same hospital.

e: fuck, doublepost. Sorry.

Crashpunk 06-16-2012 05:38 AM

EDIT: It's apparently not a actual prequal, Just DLC that's set in the same hospital.

Dynamithix 06-16-2012 06:09 AM

Hence the 'sort of' a prequel. I mean, it still shows what happened in the hospital before the events of Left 4 Dead. But yeah, it isn't a true prequel or anything, I still hope they have some of the survivors as a cameo in it.

MeechMunchie 06-16-2012 11:05 AM

I played the beta some time last year and was impressed. Now Tiny and Big is available for Steam pre-order.

Trailer not on YouTube for some reason.

AlexFili 06-18-2012 11:52 PM

Looking forward to more of the Walking Dead game episodes

Dynamithix 06-19-2012 01:02 AM

Well, MGS4 wasn't made for the fans, it was just made for the Big Boss/Naked Snake fans. which is bullshit. MGS2 was the best in the series, and yet, they almost just start pissing on it and made a huge fucking retcon. The worst thing I found, was this interview, included in the MGS4 Special Edition package, where Kojima said he regrets having made MGS2 that way. That just broke my confidence on the games industry, when a brilliant idea is completely destroyed and the creator have to regret making it.

What?

There's a big fandom for Big Boss/Naked Snake because, in some twisted way, he's cool and sweet in MGS3, very unlike Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake. MGS3 introduced new fans to the franchise and most of them are like this.

MGS4 was a gigantic overrought melodramatic love letter to everything metal gear. Nothing you say makes the any of any of the any sense.

What I mean is that, there are mainly two types of MGS fans, those who adore everything Kojima makes BUT hate MGS2 and those who see that after MGS3, Kojima just do fan service for the other type of fans.

What did you got?

Wings of Fire 06-19-2012 11:51 AM

Metal Gear Solid 3 is clearly the best game in the franchise by a large margain. Go be pathetic elsewhere.

Tell me why Metal Gear Solid is basically a rehash of MG and MG2 with higher production values

OH

MAYBE IT'S BECAUSE

Kojima doesn't give a shit.

Really if anything you're misblaming. If you want to blame one game in the series for dramatically changing everything, that game is called Metal Gear Solid.

PS: Metal Gear Solid 2 is my second favourite game in the series. Metal Gear Solid 3 is just a lot lot more fun.

Okay, now, I haven’t played an MGS game beyond the first five minutes of MGS2, but—bear with me for a second—didn’t a big part of the MGS series’ backstory focus on how Big Boss came to be?

Wings of Fire 06-19-2012 11:58 AM

Also that.

Varrok 06-19-2012 12:05 PM

I'm seriously starting to see the similarities between Sonic and MGS community.

Thank you. I need to make this type of questions to see if you're a fanboy or not. Sorry, but the gamer in me need to know. MGS tried to recreate MG and MG2 to a certain extend. MGS2 tried to recreate MGS completely. The thing here is just like you said, Kojima didn't give a shit, but after MGS3 he just completelt lost it. I'm not saying MGS3 is bad, by any means, is a fucking great game, but the story isn't the best in the series.

:

didn’t a big part of the MGS series’ backstory focus on how Big Boss came to be?

MGS series is about the rise and fall of a genius battlefield soldier who goes mad at the world corruption. Which means you're right. The thing is, they already made three games where the protagonist is Big Boss and we have yet to see the real madman. We haven't seen the moment where he clicked and reached the madness over the world. Right now, they're just milking the series. the only game that has some kind of believing in Big Boss madness is Peace Walker, and even for that, it's just mere minutes before the game's ending.

Wings of Fire 06-19-2012 12:25 PM

I still don't understand why MGS4 is fanservice for MGS3 fans.

Stuff like Vamp and Raiden reappearing, the homoerotic subtext taken to absurd levels, the continuation of themes started in MGS2 etc etc point more at it being fanservice for MGS2 fans if anything.

I do remember reading that Kojima pretty much lost interest by Metal Gear Solid 2, which is why MGS3 is basically a fun James Bond parody with minimal connection to the other games that wasn't retconned in by 4, and MGS4 is a huge collection of Hollywood cliches patched together with an increasingly oblique narrative about technical jargon and information control.

You can sort of see Kojima losing his shit with the miniboss squads in the series. MGS1 had really good well rounded sympathetic villains who you felt genuinely interested in and sorry for. MGS2's minibosses were more of a stylistic parody of Foxhound. Fortune was a deeply stuipid character, and Vamp and Fatman were just ridiculous over the top monsters. Then you get to MGS3 where none of the Cobras but Sorrow and The Boss have anything approaching a backstory and finally MGS4 with that trumped up ridiculous Beauty and the Beast unit which stretched the concept to its logical conclusion with absurd ten minute asides after the battle to moon over the pointless loss of life. It's ridiculous.

In summary, Metal Gear Solid 4 is fanservice for Metal Gear Solid fans. It has all the good, bad and stupid of the series up to fifteen. I liked it. Hell, I've only seen a Let's Play of it and that was enough to get the full experience.

I also haven't played any of the games set between Metal Gear Solid 3 and Metal Gear, by the way. The poignant end of 3 is more than enough to accept what happened to Big Boss between those two points. I think that expanding on the events takes away from the character.

Big Boss died in MG2:SS. But he's alive and smoking Cuban cigars with his "son" on the end of MGS4. Even for Kojima, that's fucked up. The only Boss that really shines on MGS2 is Solidus. He has right motives but the wrong implementations. After Rising, I just hope they make games like the AC!D story arc, where it has nothing to do with the canon saga, apart from characters and weapons.

If it’s worth anything, Kojima never wanted that as the ending. He was content to leave the ending where Snake kills himself.

Dynamithix 06-19-2012 12:35 PM

Shut up, make a MGS thread already.
