Are you calling Apocalypse Now mediocre?

Mac Sirloin 09-30-2012 07:30 AM

Well, I'm about to call Doctor Who outrageously mediocre.

Doctor Who is outrageously mediocre.

Varrok 09-30-2012 07:49 AM

Wow, have you just called Doctor Who outrageously medicore?

Nepsotic 09-30-2012 08:11 AM

I think he just called Doctor Who outrageously mediocre.

Sekto Springs 09-30-2012 10:02 AM

Because it is.
I can see the appeal of Doctor Who, it deals with some great concepts, but I think the execution is terrible.

Wings of Fire 09-30-2012 10:03 AM

Strange, I could swear the question you were caught out on was about Apocalypse Now.

Sekto Springs 09-30-2012 10:06 AM

I didn't like Apocalypse Now either.

Mac Sirloin 09-30-2012 11:13 AM

That's the one where Tom Hanks plays a tall man with downs syndrome right? That's a cinema classic right there. How dare you, sir.

Sekto Springs 09-30-2012 11:22 AM

I preferred it's sequel Apocalypse Later.

Varrok 09-30-2012 11:25 AM

Technically, Apocalypse Later is a prequel...

Sekto Springs 09-30-2012 11:30 AM

Ah, yes you're right. I get it confused with Apocalypse Yesterday all the time.

Mac Sirloin 09-30-2012 11:48 AM

Movie 4, Apocalypse Overslept, is a real hidden gem. Y'all should check it out.

Mr. Bungle 09-30-2012 04:00 PM

So which Bill Murray film should I watch next? I'm starting to like the guy.

Sekto Springs 09-30-2012 04:02 PM

Depends what kind of tone you're looking for. If you want zany, dark Murray, then Scrooged is a classic. Groundhog Day is pretty bizarre too. The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou is great.

Crashpunk 09-30-2012 04:04 PM

Yeah, I recommend Groundhog Day. That film is so good :)

MA 09-30-2012 05:07 PM

i feel like i'm in Groundhog Day just watching it. i never did like it.

The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou is great.

That's a Wes Anderson movie, is it not? I've been watching his films a lot lately, so I think I'll go with this one next. Though I heard some bad things about it. Like that it sucks.

I suppose I'll give it a shot though.

Sekto Springs 09-30-2012 08:13 PM

A large majority of people think Wes Anderson's films suck. They're called "morons", and often travel in groups.

Wings of Fire 09-30-2012 08:18 PM

More people than usual seem to think that one sucks.

I can't comment having never seen one of his films.

Sekto Springs 09-30-2012 10:21 PM

I think it's just because more people saw it. It got a lot more publicity than Anderson's earlier affairs, and was consequently more polarizing.

Bullet Magnet 10-01-2012 04:43 AM

I remember not knowing what I was watching. I was just suddenly shown it on the way to school on a tiny portable screen (it was recorded on a cassette) and I didn't know if it was a film or TV series or what. At first I thought it was a documentary.

OANST 10-01-2012 09:17 AM

I really enjoyed The Life Aquatic. There are some really great moments in that film. Is it a masterpiece the way that Rushmore, and Royal Tenenbaums are? Probably not. But it's still a really great film.

Also, Moonrise Kingdom was fucking great, and I loved it.

Sekto Springs 10-01-2012 11:02 AM

I loved the hell out of Moonrise Kingdom. Easily one of his best.

Dynamithix 10-02-2012 01:17 PM

I saw Otis, a movie about a fat guy who is obsessed with his brother's life and his wife who he could never get so he kidnaps blonde teens who remind him of her to act his dreams with but they all seem to die in one way or another. It was pretty stupid really, it sounded pretty gruesome but it turned out to be a dark humour movie that just really wasn't funny (with the exception of a torture scene near the end).

Mr. Bungle 10-02-2012 06:17 PM

I watched Knocked Up the other day. I liked it quite a bit, thought all the characters were pretty funny and it didn't wear out its welcome.

enchilado 10-03-2012 03:14 PM

Saw Looper recently. Thought it was fucking brilliant, best film I've seen in quite a while.

OANST 10-03-2012 03:26 PM

I've heard really good things about that, and I loved Brick, so maybe I'll see it this weekend.

Mr. Bungle 10-03-2012 04:14 PM

Yeah, I've heard a lot of hubbub about Looper, though I'm not sure if I want to see that or Dredd.

Mac Sirloin 10-03-2012 04:36 PM

Dredd. Looper looks okay, but I'm getting this vibe of "Brotherhood of assassins with weird meta tool" that makes it look like Wanted.

Cartoon Network suddenly became available through my Satellite provider, so I've been watching a nonstop stream of Adventure Time, Regular Show and Adult Swim. The bumps on AS seem to reference this becoming a permanent thing in Canada; that is making fun of viewers for watching cartoons instead of aspiring to be Prime Minister. I couldn't be happier. I can watch King of The Hill again, finally.

So I've been watching Sealab 2021. I didn't find it as funny as Space Ghost and Harvey Birdman when I first came across AS, but that changed. It's really weird and has that feeling of early Williams Street shows. It makes me wonder if they could be convinced to do another one with those shitty old Hanna Barberra licenses.

Sekto Springs 10-03-2012 06:10 PM

Yeah, people are shitting their drawers big time over Looper. I can't see myself going to the theaters to see it though. I predict it becoming one of those meme-fuel movies for a while, like Inception. That being said, I'm probably going to have to try extra hard not to read the fucking spoilers that are bound to show up in my newsfeed.

Speaking of Cartoon Network, Mac, got 20 minutes to kill?

Nate 10-04-2012 04:07 AM

I saw Looper last week. I'd rate it as good but not great. It's definitely worth seeing, but don't go in with high expectations. And you won't miss anything by waiting until it's on DVD.

Also, Joseph Gordon-Levitt's nose was really distracting. Also the fact that Bruce Willis is in it, making me constantly compare it to 12 Monkeys.

Crashpunk 10-04-2012 04:26 AM

Bruce Willis is the only reason why I want to see that film.

OANST 10-04-2012 07:25 AM

If you said that in my presence I would slap you.

Sekto Springs 10-04-2012 12:01 PM

They're making a fifth Die Hard movie. I'm sure Crashpunk will attend the advanced screening because Bruce Willis is in it.

OANST 10-04-2012 12:06 PM

Bruce Willis is the reason I initially didn't want to see the movie.

Oh hell no. I might be a Willis fan but I'm sick of them making Die Hard films. I only really liked the first one anyway.

OddjobAbe 10-04-2012 02:33 PM

I didn't like Willis anyway, but after doing those adverts recently, I my respect for him fell into the negatives.

But but the third one

OANST 10-04-2012 02:58 PM

I've never seen any of them.

Nepsotic 10-05-2012 07:44 AM

Die Hard 1 is excellent.
