It’s the Templars I tells ya!

Mr. Bungle 03-18-2013 01:46 PM

Playing GTA San Andreas. Just made it to San Fierro for the first time. David Cross does the voice of one of the characters. Fucking awesome.

Dynamithix 03-18-2013 01:47 PM

I have been playing a lot of Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed lately and I'm sort of stuck in the last levels of the World Tour mode, I need 165 stars to advance to the last levels and getting those stars is really hard. I have max leveled a few of the characters and currently I'm playing as Gum (Jet Set Radio) and Joe Musashi (Shinobi). Really, really fun game, I recommend it.

I also finished my hard playthrough of Max Payne 3 some time ago and now I'm playing the first Max Payne on Steam, I'm now on act 3, pretty good so far.

Anyways, I also picked up some PSN funds for the Vita and I already downloaded Sound Shapes, it seems like a neat little platformer. I still have around 10 euros left, any recommendations? I was thinking about getting Jet Set Radio HD even though I already have it on the Xbox. I also browsed through the PS1 section and noticed Alundra, that looks like it could be fun. Ugh, I need a 16gb memory card for the Vita to hold all the games, but they're so expensive. :(

Really far into Zelda: Wind Waker now. Just beat the Earth and Wind Temple.

In both of the temples, you have a sage with you. You can control them using the Wind Waker and each one has a different ability. Earth Temple is so far my favourite level in this game, It consists of Link and your Sage companion reflecting light in order to solve puzzles. You have to work together to complete the temple so it feels like to could really work in co-op. It also brings back memories of the Spirit Temple in Ocarina.

The Wind Temple on the other hand wasn't amazing, I hate the sage on this dungeon, You had to go back and control him all the time and he moves really slowly. Also there's this one tall room where if you fall, you have to slowly make your way back up again using the hookshot. Not fun. Also the Boss was a joke, It took me about 2 minutes and I only got hit a few times.

Vyrien 03-21-2013 05:44 AM

Wind Waker is an absolutely fantastic game but dear god is the travelling overseas draining.

Wings of Fire 03-21-2013 05:50 AM

I thought the Earth Temple was bullshit and the Wind Temple was okay.

Nowhere near as good as the first three.

Mr. Bungle 03-21-2013 06:24 AM

Yeah same here. A lot of the appeal of that game came from the side stuff and generally exploring the ocean, so much stuff to be found all over the place. And all the boss battles were fantastic and everything I'd want from a Zelda boss fight.

Though there should have been a water temple. It was such a rip-off, just talking to the whale to get the gem. Where's the fun.

No. Travelling over the sea was fucking awesome. FUCKING AWESOME.

No. Travelling over the sea was fucking awesome. FUCKING AWESOME.

...When you didn't have to.

When you did (Triforce hunting) it was a royal pain in the ass.

OANST 03-21-2013 06:52 AM

I said fucking awesome.

Mr. Bungle 03-21-2013 07:24 AM

The travelling was indeed awesome. The atmosphere of being out at sea was brilliant, wish more game developers could pull it off the way Nintendo did.

Triforce hunting was a big pain, though.

Vyrien 03-21-2013 07:46 AM

I was referring to the Triforce hunting, although the sense of achievement upon finding all the shards was beautiful.

Crashpunk 03-22-2013 06:22 AM

I don't really mind the sea, Now I've got the ability the use the tornado's to fast travel to different places. I'm still amazed away how big it really is. It blows Skyward Sword's Sky out of the...Water.

(sorry).

OANST 03-22-2013 06:24 AM

I liked Triforce hunting. Also loved finding all the fish. I don't know what it was about that game, but I loved every single second of it. The only thing I could have asked for was maybe one more island populated the way the windmill town island was, with all of the little side quests you could do there. I fucking loved that town.

Nate 03-22-2013 06:08 PM

If you want to talk about... whatever it is you're talking about, make a thread for it. This is the 'What are you playing right now?' thread.

Phylum 03-22-2013 06:42 PM

I'm not playing nay game right now because I'm posting on the forum!

But seriously, I started Treasure Adventure Game the other day. It's like a slower, less linear version of Cave Story. There's lots of backtracking, but each time you revisit a location you find a faster way through it, or find a place to use a new skill to progress through a puzzle you'd forgotten existed.

Manco 03-23-2013 02:14 AM

I dicked around in Burnout Paradise for an hour or two. It's weird, I don't normally like car games but the whole open-worldish thing this one has going is oddly compelling.

I didn't even do a whole lot, just drove around really fast and jumped off a few ramps and stuff.

MeechMunchie 03-23-2013 04:16 PM

Impossible Creatures yet again. This time I've bothered to play long enough to get stuck on Level 9 against Dr. Ganglion's Insect-o-frogs.

Favourite creature so far is the Lobster.

Oh, and for the ponyfiddlers, the protaganist (EDIT: Make that "Almost every male character in the game") is voiced by the same guy as Snips. Also Ravage in Beast Wars.

Manco 03-23-2013 04:46 PM

For those of you with iOS devices, I've been playing Ridiculous Fishing off and on over the past week or two.

It's a game that feels very well made, and it's got a great sense of humor. If you have an interest in iOS games this is probably a good investment for you.

Wings of Fire 03-23-2013 06:16 PM

So I'm considering getting a Vita in a week or so when I get the bulk of the inheritence my Nana left me (I specifically asked my mum to put it in an icer while I was at university so I wouldn't just fall back on it).

What are people's experiences with the Vita? I'm not exactly an intensive game player so I don't really care if the catalogue isn't fantastic, as long as I can look forward to one great game every few months. Also, apparently you can buy a version that double functions as a tablet for an extra £80. That sounds pretty cool.

Also I really really want to play Persona 4.

Dynamithix 03-24-2013 01:17 AM

I beat the first Max Payne and Spec Ops: The Line yesterday. I really liked Max Payne's story and the voice-acting, but the gameplay was a bit frustrating at parts.

I pretty much played Spec Ops: The Line just for the story, which I had heard good things about. The gameplay was just like your regular shooter these days, but it worked well enough. Dubai worked great as a setting for the game, especially when you're on top of some of the buildings, it's an amazing view. The story was really fucking dark, I'm not completely sure if I should have played this game, it's seriously twisted, it fucks with your mind in a few parts and there are multiple endings that are all beyond fucked up. There's really no correct choices to make in the game, they're all moral choices but they are all horrifying and the outcomes are never what you want them to be. Great, but disturbing game. I didn't even bother touching the multiplayer as the game devs themselves said that it was just tacked on to the game by 2K's demand.

Vita

Well, to be completely honest, it's a very powerful handheld and has a few really good games, but I wouldn't recommend picking it up yet unless you really want it right now. Then again, I don't know how much it costs in the UK, but in here it's around 200 euros (both models, 3G and Wi-Fi) and I wouldn't pay that much for it (I did get mine for free though).

One of its bigger problems are the damn memory cards, you have to buy a ridiculously priced Vita branded memory card if you want to be able to download anything digitally, I have a 16gb memory card coming in the mail right now and that damn thing cost me 38 euros. The battery isn't too great, but it's pretty much the same as the 3DS. And of course the other complaint, which you didn't seem to care too much of, is that there aren't too many games, but they are going towards a better direction with Soul Sacrifice, Tearaway and the new Killzone.

But you probably want to hear good things too about the machine and for me, one of the greatest things about it is the PS1 game support they added last year. I don't own a PS3 so this is a great way for me to play classic PS1 games that I missed. Only shitty thing is that some of the games require you to use the rear touchscreen 'cause the Vita doesn't have four triggers. I've gotten used to it by now, but it's still pretty uncomfortable.

The Vita also has a very promising indie line-up coming this year (Hotline Miami, Bit.Trip Runner 2, The Binding of Isaac) and there are already some very good downloadable titles like Super Stardust Delta (which I still need to pick up, it's a great game!), Escape Plan, Sine Mora and Sound Shapes, so if you're into that kind of thing, you'll like it.

Overall it's a decent handheld that's just a bit too expensive right now and it desperately needs a few more solid games to really shine in comparison to the 3DS. I have not played Persona 4 Golden, but I have heard that it's pretty much one of the best games for the system right now. I hope I didn't describe the system too negatively.

Phylum 03-24-2013 02:30 AM

Does it play PSP games? That could definitely tide you over while the Vita library builds up some more.

Dynamithix 03-24-2013 02:40 AM

Oh yeah, forgot to mention that, it does have a PSP game section in the PSN store. I haven't bought any, but have been thinking of getting Gods Eater Burst.

Vyrien 03-24-2013 02:44 AM

Corpse Party is also amazing.

STM 03-24-2013 02:53 AM

Machinarium: My save file keeps getting auto deleted if I don't play the game for a long enough space of time it seems. So this is the third time I've had to start from the beginning...I still can't remember what the fuck to do sometimes and I still haven't completed the game. Good job it's so beautiful.

Also I really really want to play Persona 4.

If you’ve never played it before then you’re in for a treat. One of the few RPGs I can stomach.

I haven’t yet used a Vita so I can’t tell you how good it is to use, but there does seem to be a slow-but-steady trickle of good games coming out for it (P4G, Stranger HD, etc).

Plus there’s the fact you can play PS1 games you bought from PSN on it. That’s a big standout feature for me.

Oh, and there’s the whole PS4 <-> Vita functionality if you’re interested in getting a PS4.

My experience with a VITA was really good, the buttons, pad and analogs were really great. Do you remember Neo Geos analogs? They were excellent, they felt right on the fingers. But for games that required fast paced action they could be a pain in the ass. PS Vita analogues are even better than that, in my opinion. They feel right but they can take fast and random movements, which helps for action, fighting and FPS games. MIND YOU, I don't own a PS Vita, so I cannot talk about the longevity and/or battery life, GSM, Wi-Fi, etc with a real perspective. But as far as opinions and reviews go, they are very consistent in saying it's a great deal and a very powerful machine. Hey, I had a PSP and, when I played it, I loved that fucker. And the PSP was a huge mess.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention that, it does have a PSP game section in the PSN store. I haven't bought any, but have been thinking of getting Gods Eater Burst.

Considering Gods Eater is more or less a shameless Monster Hunter clone with some Phantasy Star thrown in you'd probably get a lot more (content and challenge wise) out of Monster Hunter Freedom Unite, also on PSN. Though God Eater's not particularly bad it's still glitchy and the controls need some work.

I've been replaying Final Fantasy 7 this week. I'm at the endgame and just about done with the smaller less important sidequests but I still have the Wutai side story (which I might not be able to access since I'm on disc 3), Chocobo breeding, Gold Saucer and The ancient forest. Plus beating Emerald and Ruby Weapon. I reached the end 10 hours sooner than my last run, but I also cheated and gave myself a shitload of Gil in that game and had more time for grinding and morphing enemies.

Coincidence: I just installed it on my new machine with the intention of playing it through again. I used to have trouble on the Ganglion's Lab mission with his archerfish hippos. What's your specific problem?

hedjeroo 03-24-2013 12:54 PM

Picked up Diablo 3 again recently. Not quite as bad as I remembered it but hey, Torchlight 2 is still better, in my opinion. At least for some things. The combining isn't nearly as harsh in D3 though, but less flexible. Sort of hacking my way through Act 2 Nightmare with a pretty good all-around Wizard, with a ton of crap bought off the auction house in my equipment slots for good measure. Everyone has better RNG luck than me.

My skill kit is Electrocute, Disintegrate, Frost Nova, Ice Armour, Magic Weapon and Hydra. I love Hydra and Ice Armour so much.

I'm also a horrible person and I've gotten one of my friends playing WoW.
