which tech demos have you seen? Also, now you all know why I had/am having to learn Lua

Searching for "Bitsquid Engine" on YouTube reveals stuff like this. While the Stone Giant is impressive it just says it's done using Bitsquid Technology rather than the engine they designed, specifically.

Reminds me of the early Munch tech demos somehow with the paramites.

Havoc 02-24-2012 08:27 AM

That looks pretty sexy, can't wait to see some ingame material.

Bitsquid Tech is the engine. The company is called just Bitsquid.

DarkHoodness 02-24-2012 09:07 AM

Ah right.

EDIT: That's damned impressive in that case, then. Good choice, JAW!

Manco 02-24-2012 11:02 AM

You can also download Stone Giant as a benchmark/demo to test out the engine. It’s linked in the video description.

This is the first official confirmation that Abe HD will be Abe's Oddysee.

You better not forget about Abe's Exoddus. :(

DarkHoodness 02-24-2012 11:31 AM

From earlier in the thread, for those who weren't paying attention:

:

We have plans for AE although it won't be released the same time as AHD. I think having them as one large game would belittle both of them, somehow suggesting that they can't stand on their own merits.

Rest assured though; as long as I have a voice, AE will get its turn.

:

()
That's good to hear. Thanks for clearing this up :)

:

()
It's my pleasure; AE is my favourite if I'm perfectly honest (don't lynch me, who would feed my ferrets?). I felt like it had better pacing than the original, and was a little gentler in bringing the player up to speed.

So you see, remaking AE will be a selfish act on my part so I get to play it again :P

From earlier in the thread, for those who weren't paying attention:

That Glitch has got a way with words hasn't he?

Also, where did you get that camera flythrough demo?! I haven't got that and it would be very bloody helpful!

EDIT: Oh, nevermind, it's just some random guys entry to a comp. I thought I'd written a spline following function for nothing!

Crashpunk 02-24-2012 12:51 PM

I'm so glad Abe's Exoddus is getting a remake. Just Add Water. You really are the best :D

Havoc 02-24-2012 01:39 PM

Dunno if this has been answered, but are you going to remake or remaster the original FMV's? Touch them up a bit or something using today's tech?

Wil 02-24-2012 02:49 PM

They'll be rendered in realtime. That way we can do all sorts of awesome things, not least seamless switching between cut-scenes and gameplay.

Nate 02-24-2012 03:05 PM

You guys had better make the transitions in Monsaic Lines amazing. Those were my favourite parts of the game back when I was a kid.

STM 02-24-2012 03:25 PM

Hell, Monsaic Lines is my favourite place in the entire series, I will personally pull all your faces off if justice is not done.

Also...will we get to see some pictures or anything soon? And by soon, I mean, within the coming months.

"I had just got past those slogs, when the strangest thing I saw... another slog!"

-seamless transition back to gameplay-

Really though, seeing what I've now seen of Bitsquid Tech, I think this might be the first time in a long while I've awaited a single screenshot of a game so eagerly.

Well you ain't gonna see any in the months already gone.

STM 02-24-2012 05:47 PM

So...you're going to show us pictures tomorrow. You better show me pictures Wil, I don't care what of, I just want pictures...

Wil 02-25-2012 12:48 AM

I'll send them to you privately if you sign a contract agreeing not to call the police.

Crashpunk 02-25-2012 01:26 AM

I want to see Stockyards. I loved that area so much.

STM 02-25-2012 02:48 AM

I think publicly over facebook would be far more impressive Wil.

MeechMunchie 02-25-2012 05:00 AM

We need to send a nubile young sedcutor into JAW and compromise Wil by loosening him with their tongue to loosen his tongue.

Don't look at me like that.

AstraVexx 02-26-2012 06:01 AM

Question:- Just bought the Art of Oddworld Inhabitants 1994-2004 book and on page 56, I found a still HD image of Abe waxing the floor past the product posters "We used to make Meech Munchies...etc' Its incredibly sharp and clear.

I dunno if you guys have got a copy of the book knockin' around the office at J.A.W but if you do, is that the kind of quality the cutscenes will be like in Abe HD?

*crosses both paws * ^___^

^. And if they come out looking like something of this quality then that'd be good.

Varrok 02-26-2012 06:37 AM

Some textures from StoneGiant demo looks kinda low-res - is it the limitation of engine (i hope not) or Bitsquid thinking it's not that important?

AstraVexx 02-26-2012 06:45 AM

Also, i saw a post earlier about "Slig Banter" where enemies could engage in idle chit-chat. Does that mean Lorne could provide extra dialogue or could you have dedicated fans that can mimic the voices of Sligs to do extra dialogue?

Because I would LOVE to contribute ! :D

...but...ya know..just thinking outloud, heh heh ....

MeechMunchie 02-26-2012 07:18 AM

I actually quite like that idea. Give something back to your loyal fans... Unless Sligs are supposed to all sound the same.

DarkHoodness 02-26-2012 07:22 AM

I'd really hope they'd use professional voice actors unless they find fans who are exceptional at voice acting... And that's unlikely.

Manco 02-26-2012 07:28 AM

I hope they keep using Lorne’s VO skills wherever possible. I think he’s got one of the most versatile voices in the business, and his rendition of Abe is the only one I could accept.

MeechMunchie 02-26-2012 07:31 AM

And Lorne Lanning was not a professional voice actor.

DarkHoodness 02-26-2012 08:20 AM

Bear in mind that it was Josh Gabriel who did the voices for Abe in AO. If the voices are re-done by Lorne, Abe will sound like he did in AE and Munch.
