Well, it isn't.
Close-up view + depth of field blur + average resolution texture = Smeary, grainy look. |
Okay, so you're saying that isn't prerendered.
|
I'm saying Epic told everyone it wasn't pre-rendered (i.e. realtime rendering). And I don't think they'd bother lying about that.
|
That's just amazing.
|
I'll wait until I see it in motion.
You also need to bear in mind that realtime demos are not the same as game engines. I mean... the rendering engine code is the same, but the assets are designed differently. They cherrypick the models, the angles and the action, and optimise everything for the one short scene. When the same engine is put in-game, there's a greater need for flexibility as the player can look anywhere, go anywhere and doesn't want a loading screen every 20 seconds. That means that every detail needs to be dialed down significantly. |
Well yeah, these demos are supposed to show what games will look like in a few years. It's more processing-intensive to render an entire level as it moves (plus the entire game code, control input, damage, etc.), than one corridor from a set angle. It'll take games, and home PCs, a while to catch up.

You're probably thinking "Wow, that's the shallowest, most generic trailer I've ever seen." That's actually kind of the point. As with TrackMania, they're aiming to make a 'blank canvas' game, that's at once both perfectly balanced in its natural state and inherently moddable. Basically, they want to be the world's most moddable games. Because when you're 300 different games on your own, why should people play anything else? Also note the lack of graphic violence. It's all about being fun and accessible. |
YO YO YO YO Y-YO, YO YO YO
Pretty pumped for this game and I really wanna see how it turns out. I'll probably end up pre-ordering it just for the soundtrack. So good. Also, this is pretty cool, it's a Street Fighter 25th Anniversary Collector's Set that includes an 11-disc soundtrack, an 8'' tall Ryu statue, 64 page artbook and most of the modern Street Fighter games including most (or all) of the DLC. It's $149,99. I'd get it for that price if I was into Street Fighter, that's a good price for such a huge box of goodies. http://www.xbox360achievements.org/i...ws/sf25yr1.jpg Ron Gilbert and Tim Schafer's (?) new game, The Cave. Note: This isn't the Double Fine Adventure game from what I've understood. Looks a bit like Trine. |

I actually made the fangirl "Squee" noise when I saw this. -= Your Masculinity skill is being drained. =-

Zone of the Enders HD Collection's special edition revealed. It was only announced for Japan but I hope it'll be available here too.

Also, big news for JSR fans: http://www.gamersyde.com/news_jet_se...-12862_en.html |
I still need to play Jet Set Radio. I've been looking for a cheap Dreamcast for a while now.
|
Good luck, they're usually like 100 bucks. Although some people might call that cheap.|
I used to have a Dreamcast. I miss it so much. My mom threw it out because she thought it was broken. The damn eject button wouldn't work, but you could still play it! Ugh. http://www.screwattack.com/news/rumo...over-announced Weird rumor. Not sure what to think. It doesn't seem like something Nintendo would do. |
:
Two new characters announced for Anarchy Reigns! Sadly it was delayed till later July in the US (and possibly Europe). Still July the 5th for Japan though. |
I was talking about the console itself. Yeah, the game's pretty common. I have it on xbox, too.
|
Oh sorry, I read that wrong. And if you have it on the original Xbox, it's not JSR, it's Jet Set Radio Future, which is actually a lot rarer. I want it. :(
|
I'll trade it to you if you have something I want. I don't really play it much.
|
So like if I saw a Dreamcast for less than 100, should I jump on it? I didnt even know they were rare, I think a local shop has one for around 40.
|
Their rare? I knew they didn't sell very well, but I didn't think it was rare.
|
Cheapest one I've seen was $80. Then again, I haven't really been looking for them, so who knows.
|

I'm actually looking forward to Pokemon Black and White 2. I've was never interested in buying Yellow/Crystal/Emerald/Platinum, but the fact that they've changed the game more makes it more appealing. Considering the Japanese release is apparently a month away, I'm surprised that so little information has been leaked. |
:
I’ve been contemplating getting a cheap used DS and a copy of SoulSilver precisely to reminisce about the good old days I had with Silver/Crystal. Only Pokemon generation I ever played, and my Crystal Pokedex is entirely full (less one Celebi). |
|
:
|
Ridiculously excited for Wrath of the Lamb. This might actually be enough to pry me off of Diablo 3 for a few hours.
|
:
|
You can get a Dreamcast around here for 30-40$ at most, games are rare but seemingly worthless since most of them are cheap. Used game stores/pawn shops (local ones, not chains like GAME, Gamestop or EB) will inevitably have a Dreamcast poking around somewhere.
|
I've encountered Dreamcasts that go from 26 to 47 euros with games. Pretty expensive for a late generation, but more accessible then the ones you've found.

Personally, I've never been a fan of Pokemon. To me it just seems like the same game over and over, like Fifa.
|
How dare you compare Pokemon to Fifa! :(
Yes it's the same core gameplay but every game is different. The games have there own stories, settings, their own pokemon. Fifa however has been the exactly the same game since it's release no real change. |
Nah, none of the shit you said really matters. I went from Yellow to Diamond and there was no real change other than better pixels. It's the same damn game, just as FIFA or CoD are for the most part.
|
:
And that's that. |
No, they aren't. There's a big difference. Every game Nintendo implements new game mechanics Pokemon, storyline etc. Sure, the core gameplay might be hte same, but there are typically enough changed to warrant buying the new game. Plus, Pokemon games don't come out every year, like CoD or FiFa. There's usually several years between games. Except with Black and White 2, but I don't really give a shit about them.
|
Well if you're waiting years for sequels, aren't you dissappointed with just new storyline and 'subtle changes'?
|
:
It's exactly as true (False) and exactly as clever (Stupid). |
I think I played Red/Blue/Yellow, Crystal and Ruby or Sapphire before I became tired of the formula. From my recollection it's a very endearing and replayble game for some types, while most people can't stand the repetitive mildly altered gameplay with each successive release. They're fun(nish?) but whenever I pick one up I will inevitably stop playing a solid 4 hours in. Every. Time.
EDIT: Wrong thread. |
Yeah, I got up to Ruby/Sapphire before I stopped. And I don't think it was because I got tired of the formula, I just thought that Diamond's battle system was way too fucking slow. It's like playing in a time warp.
And I'm the same way with Pokemon, I can't really play the games for more than a few hours anymore, even if I want to. Sad. Also, someone should split this off into a Pokemon thread. |
