New argument. Mudombies are Mudokons's spirits. They are the spirits that Abe freed when he went in Mudomo and Mudanchee Vaults. And in Necrum. But in the artbook, we can see a sort of zombie with a Mudokon body. And we don't see it in the game. So, have Mudombies been originally designed to have a body? A dead and putrescent body I mean.

No, Mudombies are the zombie mudokons who got dropped from the game. The Mudokon spirits are called 'Mudokon spirits', amazingly; that said, the three that visited Abe are referred to as the 'Wierdos'.

Mudombies and mudokon spirits were always separate ideas. The spirits are the Weirdos who come to visit Abe, and what you release from spirit cages. Mudombies were the corpses of ancient mudokons up and about because of their spirit's unrest. But they were cut from Necrum, for whatever reasons.

I am impressed oh master of English

I meant putrid.

New question :D. When do Fleeches vomit Slurgs? We know Slurgs are Fleeches's interiors, so when do they "make" new Slurgs?

Bullet Magnet 01-13-2008 06:34 AM

Something must have been lost in translation here. Slurgs are not born from fleeches.

Zozo the Zrilufet 01-13-2008 08:04 AM

I think he got confused because slurgs eat fleech offal or something.

Is it possible that is simply too much to put in one screen, even one level? I mean, Necrum is packed with stuff as it is. Like, on some screens, you would have Fleeches, Slurgs, Paramites/Scrabs, Abe, and some objects in the same screen. I'm sure that list didn't come along very often, but certainly a ton of stuff nevertheless. Another enemy in the picture that probably had some complicated programming would probably be way too much. Also, at some point, OWI would have to realize that they would be over their heads on a bonus game and might make it more difficult than necessary for the player to simply go through one area.

Wil 01-13-2008 09:15 AM

There’s very little evidence to suggest Mudombies would be gameplay characters, although even less to state they would be FMV‐only. All I can think of is a sentence or two from Stephen Pierce’s preview of Abe’s Exoddus in the October 1998 issue of the Official UK PlayStation Magazine:
:

New enemies are also the order of the day. Fleeches, the undead Mudombies, Greeters, Slurgs, Sloggies and many more infest the SoulStorm Brewery

I wouldn’t go by that generalized description of the game. For all we know, he was accidentally referring to Mudokon spirits rather than some earlier gameplay build.

But everything you say, Slaveless, about technical limitations could be very correct.

abe is now! 01-13-2008 09:47 AM

Thank you. Anyway I meant that I read in the AE's manual, that Slurgs are the putrid inerior of Fleeches. That's all.

Bullet Magnet 01-13-2008 10:29 AM

In my copy it says "Slurgs: The lowest form of Oddworld life, subsisting on the offal of fleeches. Hey, it's a living."

This implies that they eat the deceased remains and/or leftovers of fleeches.

abe is now! 01-13-2008 10:43 AM

Bleah! Anyway I have a new question. If Fleeches have been put in Oddworld sewers, why are they in Necrum? There is no way to reach it, because there aren't rivers in the desert. I don't know if there is a river that reaches Necrum through the jungle, but how can Fleeches be in Necrum if they were in the sewers?

Wil 01-13-2008 10:50 AM

The sewers could end up directly in the oasis, but the Glukkons’ building sewers that lead to the only profitable part of a desert and not just any part of it is too farfetched for my liking. There could be sewers leading from the Mines to the jungle, but there are no Glukkons there, let alone young ones that would keep pet Fleeches. All I can think of is that there are wells that lead from wherever some Glukkon sewers end up directly to Necrum.

abe is now! 01-13-2008 10:58 AM

Is there any glacer in Mudos?

Wil 01-13-2008 11:24 AM

Could be, but we don’t know of any.

Back in the days when I thought about making an Oddworld fanwork, I did imagine a retreating glacier as a gameplay region. Pot holing down crevasses and exploring glacier caves would be awesome. In gameplay and in real life.

Wil 01-14-2008 04:01 AM

I found this little factoid at the end of the trivia added to Wikipedia’s Oddworld article:
:

At the end of Abe's Exoddus, after the final FMV, There is also a screen with text that reads: "Coming in 2000: Munch's Oddysee." A voice is then heard that speaks: "And don't even think about running it on your measly 32-bit system."

I have and have completed both the PlayStation and Windows versions of AE and I don’t recall this. Does anyone?

Xavier 01-14-2008 04:45 AM

It does ring a bell, but I'm not sure it was on my version of the game.

Nate 01-14-2008 05:04 AM

I saw it every time.

Slaveless 01-14-2008 06:05 AM

I as well. That exact screen comes whenever I end the game (supposily on the good ending, not sure about the bad ones).

OddYouko 01-14-2008 06:55 AM

What do you think happend to the Shrink when Abe shut down Rupture Farms? Or was it there just for a bonus video?

abe is now! 01-14-2008 07:10 AM

I didn't saw it. Can anyone post a screenshots? I don't think there is that message in my version (I have just PS1 version).

Slaveless 01-14-2008 08:01 AM

Actually, the bonus video was on the PS version, so if you saved 99 Mudokons, you should have had the option to see it.

Due the power being deactivated, the Shrink probably would have ceased being active.

Wil 01-14-2008 08:29 AM

Abe shut the power down before he was captured. He’s already contained in his cell when the Shrink gets to him. It must not have been on the same grid as the factory machinery.

Slaveless 01-14-2008 08:55 AM

D'oh!

Well, when he had shut down the power in FMV, he said he shut most of it down, but not all. I assumed that after Abe escaped and Rupture Farms was permenately shut down, the Shrink no longer had any power to work off of.

Bullet Magnet 01-14-2008 09:27 AM

I kind of figured that, while the Shrink is a real and canon character, that scene is not. What with the Shrink telling Abe what to do despite the fact that he has already done it all, and the recordings of grisly deaths that obviously never took place.

mudling 01-14-2008 09:53 AM

Maybe, being a shrink, he's cracking into abe's mind, and making him think that he's doing it or something.
Anyways, do we know where this scene is set? Since the shrink was rellocated to Vyker's labs, but then again, there are alot of shrinks.

Wil 01-14-2008 11:35 AM

Shrinks aren’t relocated. It’s cheaper just to scrap them and build new ones.

mudling 01-14-2008 03:19 PM

Oh ok.
But isn't there reference to a speacific one, that is suicidal and hates it's job, I thought that was the one taking care of Abe, or was it Sam's personal shrink?

Wil 01-14-2008 03:58 PM

That’s Sam’s Shrink [and that’s a very hard sentence to speak out loud]. Of the two of them, Sam is the suicidal one, and the Shrink has to keep her alive and laying Mudokon eggs, but it hates her. It also knows it’s only a matter of time before Sam manages to overdose, at which point its own existence will become pointless. This Shrink plots to escape Vykkers Labs, but being because its physical connection to the ship is the only way it can receive power and control its motion, it hasn’t come up with a good plan yet.

Slaveless 01-14-2008 04:13 PM

I wonder if the Shrink wanting freedom would ever be a game element in MO.

Jordan 01-15-2008 01:47 AM

Is it possible the Shrink could sort of get its own little storyline in the upcoming Oddworld game about Abe?

Wil 01-15-2008 04:26 AM

Upcoming game about Abe? You mean film, right? Possibly, but if it’s going to at all I’d wager it’ll be in Munch’s film.

Fuzzle Guy 01-15-2008 05:16 AM

Film about Abe? I thought they were making citizen Ceige, but if they are making an Abe movie, I think they should leave the games, and just create an entirely new story surrounding Abe. People don't need to know his backstory, It can be a mystery to thouse who just watch, and those who care will probably find out on wikipedia or something.

Film about Abe?

Yep you can see some production art for the movies over here:

Wil 01-15-2008 06:45 AM

Regarding this early Munch screen at the end of Abe’s Exoddus… I just watched it. Whoa, I’ve never seen that or known about it. Even old Muds like me can learn new things. :D

abe is now! 01-15-2008 11:43 AM

A question about Abe's exoddus - the movie: has it been watched in San Luis Obispo's cinemas or where has it been watched?

Thanks Xavier, those images are great.

OddYouko 01-17-2008 01:53 PM

If Squeek's Oddysee would have come after Munch's Oddysee would Abe and Munch be with him? Or just Squeek and Abe?

Wil 01-17-2008 02:40 PM

Abe, Munch, and Squeek would work together and all be fully playable.

Bullet Magnet 01-17-2008 06:33 PM

Abe seems to be gathering up some sort of a posse composed of the weirdest species he can find. When will Alf be playable? That's what I wanna know.

Excuse me if I ask this, but of wich game or situation are you asking about?

Fuzzle Guy 01-18-2008 08:59 AM

I don't think BM is actually asking that question. I think he's just saying that he wishes he could play as Alf.
