Job, I'm going to agree with you 100% on CTR it is fantastic kart racer with all the mechanics of a proper one. Plus all the multiplayer battle modes kick ass, PS1 multitap FTW. I've played the game for over a decade and it never bores me, and I have yet to encounter any serious bug or glitch. It was a smooth, fine lookin' ps1 classic, ahhh nostalgia...
A remake of any ps1 crash/spyro game would make my day, hell It'd make my month |
I want to remind people that this is the What Are You Playing Right Now? thread. If you want to discuss specific games in detail, please make a separate thread.
|
then are we just not supposed to respond to anyone's recent games? 'cause if all this thread is is posting about your recent experience and having no response to it then I very much so misunderstood this thread.
|
Just be reasonable? Varrok and I making gigantic posts about Grow Home probably pushed it too far. The Crash discussion is going on a bit too. We don't need a thread for every game people discuss, but this isn't a thread for discussing any random gaming stuff either.
|
What I'm seeing is a few Crash/Spyro posts, then 2 CTR/Mario Kart ones. The thread is hardly derailed. If we made a single thread for any of those games, they'd all die out as quickly as they did now.
|
I’d happily post in a “classic PS1 games” thread, there’s plenty of material there about what games you liked most and why, what possibilities there are for remakes/sequels etc.
|
Alternatively, we can make a thread of just talking about random games we like or dislike. If a particular game stirs a bigger conversation, it gets its own thread.
But if we did that, what would be the point of *this* thread? We certainly don't want it to become something like this: :

The thing with this thread is there’s a certain level of discussion that’s OK (e.g. “I’m playing X”, “Oh I was thinking about buying X, how is it?”), but when those discussions start taking up entire pages and hardly anyone’s following the actual thread topic then it’s time to spin it out into its own thread.
The Grow Home discussion was probably right on the edge of being acceptable until the long paragraphs came out, and the Crash/Spyro discussions are enough for their own thread. |
You know what's worse than people derailing threads though? People discussing what constitutes derailing a thread in a thread. Just use your heads about if what you're saying should be a new thread or not.
Anyway I bought Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga to play with a friend. I played the original PS2 game back in the day, so it's fun revisiting Eps 1-3. It's such a fucking stupid game. You can't fail and the only challenge comes from the collectibles, which are completely addictive to me for no good reason. Seriously the game is so dumb but it's so hard to not smile. I'm also playing bits and pieces of Mount and Blade: Warband. I'm getting better at combat, and focusing on running a smaller elite band to harass bandits, looters, thieves, deserters and banditos. When I still had a larger band of around 50 I accidentally ended up toe to toe with a war force after raiding some village, and I decided to fight because I outnumbered them. It was the first and hopefully last time I fight a troupe fully geared for battle - I got knocked out by a lancer in their first charge. I'd never faced a lancer on the field before, it totally caught me off guard. There's so much to this game I haven't seen yet by playing a total nobody, but I just love how the life of Borris of the Woods had been a series of blunders before he finally settled in to mediocrity fighting shitty bandits. No taking over castles and winning big battles, I'm just righting the small wrongs one step at a time. |
Rainbow Six Siege is an amazing tactical shooter, I'm loving the hell out of it. I keep getting my ass kicked because of idiot teammates, but still. When you do get a team that knows the word 'teamwork' it's an amazing experience.
|
Once again, I've been playing Kerbal space program. My latest mission was a rover that was sent to one of the local moons of Kerbin, Minimus. I did the calculations for the hohmann transfer orbit, altered the incline to match that of Minimus' orbit and sent it on its way. Only problem was, I had a vehicle with no reaction wheels. THE ONLY time I could actually use the thing was when the engines were on. I took advantage of the gimbal on one of the engines and barely landed on Minimus.

Dark Souls 2 again lately. I think I'm finally getting somewhere near the end? Only 3 "worlds" remain greyed out on the bonfire map, so.
Also that big wormy baby demon was gross and cool as heck. God I love the boss designs in this series. |
I got bored of The Forest again thanks to the curse of Early Access games having no real endgame content in them. It’s sooo promising but without any kind of story or endgame included yet I can’t stay interested in it. I really hope the developers stop pandering to the Early Access crowd and start adding more meaningful content instead of more ways to decorate your log cabin and live out your off-the-grid fantasies.
I also finished the Halo 3 campaign, and now I’m sad because 1-3 are so fun and I know what a bad job Microsoft is doing with their sequels. |
I can't vouch for the multiplayer, but Halo 4's campaign was painfully boring and shitty. I only played through it once back when it first came out so I don't remember too much, but I do remember being disappointed and thinking that most of the new weapon and enemy designs were awful, and that the story was just...lame. Not that the story in 1-3 was absolutely genius or anything, but everything about Halo 4 just felt like post-script writing that wasn't necessary.
I haven't bothered with Halo 5. |
Me neither, although partly because I don’t want to buy an Xbox One.
Oddly enough I’m now getting a hankering to play Halo 4 to remind myself of why it’s so bad. |
Factorio was just released on Steam and you should all go get it if you like builder/RTS/puzzleish games. Too addicting ;_;
|
Just finished playing through Half-Life 2 and its episodes. I should probably buy Black Mesa now and play that too, but I also want to get Firewatch and The Division so ugh.
|
Firewatch honestly isn't worth the money. It's a good game, but not worth the 20 bucks. You can get pretty much the exact experience by watching YouTube videos.
|
:
I'm the kind of person who likes that kind of game I guess. |
You can download free Black Mesa stand alone mod. The paid HD remaster doesn't add much to it, or so I heard

If I remember correctly, there was some shady business behind the paid version.
Firstly, the mod doesn't contain the last world (It was promised as a free DLC, but they didn't deliver), I don't even know if the paid one does. Also, there was some outrage about some co-creators of the mod not getting any earnings from the paid version, despite that it used their content. I might not be 100% accurate, frankly I don't remember it that well. What I do remember is that a lot of the content were made by random people in a kind of public contests. The gibs, the dialogues, graphics, etc. |
Get Firewatch, it’s cool and hot.
|
Yes but is it rad?
|
Is it about a watch of fire?

That's good enough for me!

Have you played the paid version? If so: How does it look there?
|
Haven't played the paid version because I'm waiting for that last level to be released before I touch it again.
