I like songs like this. It's easy to relax when you're listening to something similar. But I think the name of the song is pretty misleading if you listen to the song. I'm gonna fall asleep now...

Mr. Bungle 02-06-2011 02:51 PM

This is relaxing, too.

Brilliant musicians, they are.

some Johnny Cash for y'all.

trust the one video of Cash's most poignant performance to have embedding disabled.

i prefer the last two over the originals.

Dynamithix 02-07-2011 10:53 AM

R.I.P. Johnny, Hurt is truly a beautiful song.

Anyways, I found this little remix a while ago and I got it stuck in my head. It's not really that good, but I just keep replaying it in my head.

Ridg3 02-07-2011 10:57 AM

Tribute to Gary Moore. Another legend has kicked the bucket.

Disgruntled Intern 02-07-2011 11:17 AM

Song is great, video fucking sucks:

Some of the best drinking music of all time. Local watering hole plays these guys quite a bit:

Mr. Bungle 02-07-2011 03:54 PM

I have a feeling this album's gonna be one of the better ones of this year. So excited, 2011 is gonna be excellent!

Mac Sirloin 02-08-2011 08:12 AM

I'm listening to a bit of Crystal Castles, honestly because there's one solitary song of theirs in Saints Row 2 that I happen to like.

Anyway, they can be a pretty fucking terrible band, but then there's okay stuff like this:

T-nex 02-08-2011 11:14 AM

So lately I'm re-discovering Joy Division, which I used to listen to a lot a while ago.
I dunno. They are just very special and I love the music x_x

Dynamithix 02-08-2011 01:30 PM

Never mind the remix of this song I posted earlier, I love this song's original version.

Mr. Bungle 02-08-2011 06:16 PM

BURN YES YOU GONNA BURN

Dynamithix 02-09-2011 12:01 PM

Damn it, I love The Flashbulb now.

Mac Sirloin 02-09-2011 03:28 PM

HURRRRR

I know it's intensely fucking stupid, but I still adore this song. It feels so catchy. I got pumped up for my drivers test listening to this.

I finally got around to listening to this album. It's really good.

T-nex 02-13-2011 01:34 PM

Wow... after all these years, I didn't think I'd ever genuinely like a Beatles song(Yea Im gonna receive hate for that, but I really just dont like The Beatles very much).

But then I stumbled across this beauty:

Yea dunno. The melody, the singing... the lyrics. They are all so dramatic and harmonious together. So yea. I can proudly say I like a Beatles song. Whee.

Ridg3 02-13-2011 01:45 PM

I still don't like The Beatles. I never have and there hasn't been any song that has made me want to try to get into them.

T-nex 02-13-2011 01:48 PM

dunno. I understand they are good artists and were special for their time. But it's one of those cases where I just don't like their style(for the most part).... and haircuts x_x

OddjobAbe 02-13-2011 02:04 PM

I wouldn't even say The Beatles were special for their time. People like Varèse had done things much more advanced than them only a decade before them, and even in the 19th century, people like Debussy* were doing things much more interesting. Then, at the same time as them, you had Zappa who was a classical musician under the guise of a crazy rock musican doing really brilliant stuff. I like and can appreciate The Beatles, but I refuse to accept them as more than just a successful pop band who dabbled lightly into slightly weird music.

*I understand this is a slightly radical comparison, but I have heard it argued that The Beatles made some minor musical advancements. They did not.

Mr. Bungle 02-13-2011 02:07 PM

I like the Beatles. I hardly ever listen to them, ever, but I like them.

Overrated as hell, though. Radiohead of their generation.

@OddJobAbe: I've never really sat down and listened to a Frank Zappa album. Which one should I start with?

Ridg3 02-13-2011 02:11 PM

Someone (in my opinion) who deserved (in my opinion) their popularity (in my opinion) and was special for his time (in my opinion.)

Mr. Bungle 02-13-2011 02:18 PM

I think Radiohead and The Beatles deserved their popularity more than Billy Idol.

I like Billy Idol. I saw him live, and he was really good. But he isn't the most original or creative artist in the world.

@OddJobAbe: I've never really sat down and listened to a Frank Zappa album. Which one should I start with?

If you like instrumental jazz-fusion, go for Hot Rats (there's a great track called Willie the Pimp with Captain Beefheart vocals and a great Zappa guitar solo). If you prefer humour-oriented stuff with silly vocals, go for either Apostrophe (skip to about 1:08 in this video - it gives you a good idea of Zappa's ability to blend complex classical melodies with silly rock music) or Overnite Sensation. If you want something with fewer horns, go for Hammersmith Odeon (newest release) or Sheik Yerbouti. If you like any of that stuff, I highly recommend The Yellow Shark. It demonstrates his true ability as a composer fantastically.

I understand I've given you quite a lot to go on, but it is very difficult to recommend a starting place with Zappa because of his enormous output and the diversity of styles in his music.

Ridg3 02-13-2011 02:51 PM

@Mr Bungle

Tadaa
